.. and leave there with a compound miter saw. I love power tools. Should make building a dog house much easier.

LOL! I went in to Lowe's today to return a kitchen faucet and left there with a step ladder.

It's a small world! LOL!

I've got one, it miters either vertical or horizontally or both. I seldom use the vertical miter feature.

If you like tools, go to Harbor Freight. They're a little slow on the delivery end but great prices. They also sell Chicago Tools which makes many other brands. This no-name brand is CHEAP. I've bought a LOT of $$$ (cement mixers, power tools, stick welders, hand tools) stuff from them & they are a reputable co.

Dad's shopping for a new meiter saw. Which means I'll be getting his used one, soon. Woo Hoo.

Off to Home Depot for some wood stain... Wonder what else I'll come home with. If it's interesting enough, I'll report back to this thread. lol

That sliding compound miter box by DeWalt is sweet. I've wanted one every since they came out with it. But that $600+ price tag with attachments is holding me back. And of course you need that portable stand for it and that's another $300. Why are us men folk addicted to such expensive toys? If I was a carpenter or something maybe I could understand it.

The saw paid for itself today. I have the doghouse completely frames in. Thunder and lightning with a sprinkle of rain forced me inside before I could start ripping panels for the exterior walls and roof.

The vast majority of my cuts in lumber end up being 90 dgerees. I've found a speed square and my circ saw to be a wonderful combination.
(A buddy lost the tips of two fingers using a "chop" (miter) saw. Sure, he was careless, but be aware that when tools make it easy, its easy to get carried away.)

Ripping with a compund miter saw? Maybe a circular saw, table saw or radial arm saw. Never saw anyone "rip" (cut lengthwise) with a miter saw.

I've never heard of anyone ripping paneling with a miter saw either. That's what the ole worm gear Milwaukee circular saw is for.

So I go into Home Depot yesterday to buy some wood
...and they have the friggin aisle with the wood on it blocked off. Can they not wait until there aren't customers in the store to stock the high shelves? Geez.

There are no hurricane straps on those roof 2 X 4s.
Not up to code.
Sorry

SS - I recommend the Simpson H2.5. It ties the rafter directly to the stud. Otherwise, the stud and top plate will simply lift off the toe nailed stud.

I calculate that uplift at approximately 38.45364#'s under a code induced 90mph wind. The fence does provide shielding one direction though.

The dude calls himself a "woodwright".

I seriously dig wood.
