I couldn't handle it
The walking was fine. The afternoon storms were no big deal. The creeks were nothing. There was hardly any snow. I got really tired one day and that made my hip and knee hurt a little, but that was the worst the trail had to offer.

It was the company that I couldn't stand. Gforce was an angel, but I was really uncomfortable around Prosecutor. Chicago crude (Gforce's term) is the best way to describe him. Between the crudeness and his cheery announcement that he baits liberals for entertainment, I holed up in my tent a lot.

I was ready to bail at Reds Meadow, but hung in until Vermillion Valley Resort.

The experience made me appreciate all of you even more for all the great trips I've been on.

GForce is a good guy :) Id hike with him anytime. I dont know prosecuter so I will give him the benifit of the doubt and wont judge, some people just don't click. Yeah chicago crude sure takes getting used to! believe me, chicago people have a whole diffrent vocab and attitude then where I grew up in CA. Actually I'm STILL trying to get to it...talk about culture shock lol

I'm sorry that happened to you Wanna, I truly admire, envy and greatly respect, the commitment you & Jerry have made to your lifestyle.. which includes enjoying the "great outdoors"! Never in a gazillion years would I ever think to bring up a topic on a BP trip that I thought might be offensive, or simply sensitive, to one of my hiking partners. My goodness, you're out in the wilderness as a "team" for HOW MANY DAYS? And someone wants to talk POLITICS? How very sad.

So... here's my offer.. at GREAT PERSONAL expense I have decided that I should MAKE A FIRM COMMITMENT to hook up with you & Jerry, DRIVE MY CAR to the trailhead, and hike with you both for days & days & days & days ... all the time without bringing up politics!

So, LET's GO!!

I shall also cook dinner for you. (Sorry, but I'm thinkin' dehydrated here!)

Oh... I will also share some of my "Wanderer's world famous jerky" ... and... if you guys will come out w me on a trip of YOUR CHOOSING I will personaly cook dinner for all of us & bring a glass of wine to toast the occasion.

&@@$R#&^@Y@R%#&^@OI){}P##), two of the nicest, kindest people I have ever met, and they have to encounter somethoing negative... brings a tear to the eye. Sniff, sniff.

So... when are we going backpacking???

What are you guys doing Labor Day Weekend?

LET'S GO!!!!!

Karen, sorry to hear about the bail. I had the feeling before your hike there would be some tension but never enough to bail. I've never met the others but I knew the online personalities just didn't jive.

Karen, I can understand why you felt that way. GForce whom I have met once is great. I have met prosecutor three times but officially backpacked with him once. he hasn't really talked about politics while on the trail but watching him on the other forum I know how he can get you into a discussion. He does like to bait Dems (reminds me of someone on this site)
Sorry you had to bail esp for that reason.

Sorry to hear about your struggle to remain on the trip and the tough choice you had to make to leave. I have a family member (in-law) from Chicago(born and raised) and he has a way of making our entire family feel less than worthy of sharing his air! I don't visit except on VERY short terms (he just flew back to Chicago today). I just don't like to feel bad while spending time with folks, but that's the way it always works out with him. So you have my deepest sympathy!

Now to all you Chicagoians (is that a word?) who I have probably offended, I apologize. I don't mean to generalize the population of an area because of a couple of A@@es as I am sure we have our share from SC too. We just know how to be A@@es politely!!! LOL!!!

But the truth is Wannabp...it's prosecutor's lose for not getting to know the wonderfully spirited person you are!

I'm out-of-town on biz thru 9/1. I'd like to leave for someplace on Sat., 9/3, and stay /go wherever the group decides. I can take Tues, Weds & Thurs off if we can do something.

Maybe we can hook-up somewhere also if y'all want. I was going to do a solo trip, but it's always nice to meet up w folks on the trail.

One of my thoughts, besides Desolation / Carson Pass, was to hit the trails off I80 starting at Carr/Feely TH and hiking over to Sawmill Lake. I LOVE swimming / fishing in Sawmill, for some reason that lake is just very attactive to me. Lot's of places to stop along the way.. some that are "off-trail" are actually pretty nice. I was thinking of doing this if I was going solo, if there are a few of us hooking up there might be more attractive trails we should consider.

For instance... Pioneer Basin.. I was there last July 4 weekend... MAN I LOVE THAT PLACE! Let's go there!

Actually, I LOVE THE WHOLE SIERRA!!! LET'S GO THERE!!! CAN WE LEAVE NOW??? I'M READY!

OK, I don't know wannabp, but I do know Gforce and Prosecutor. Gforce wouldn't hurt a fly.

Prosecutor? He's a good guy. And hell, I'm a liberal! He was having fun. And you sound like you took it a bit too personal. He's tried to bait me. I just roll my eyes. That's all you have to do. The topic ends.

Maybe he just needs to grow on you. Well, it does sound like you let him get through to you. Shame on you. Never let him see ya sweat. :-)

Sheesh, when he hosted a canoe trip on the Namekagon River near his cabin in Wisconsin, I was his canoeing partner and we gossiped and talked about all kinds of stuff. A smart, funny man.

I'm sorry you feel as you do, wannabp, but I can't let you rag on someone I know and like.

man, that is too bad, wannabp. prosecutor gave me a ride home when my car broke down in kentucky, and i never even got a sense of which way his political wind blows. alas, i am a midwesterner also, so if he was rude or crude, he didnt seem so to me. it must have been really bad for you to jump off a trail so beautiful. well, we can commiserate together, i was supposed to be on this trip, too.

Sorry to hear about your bad time. I know a lot people have hiked with Prosecutor and I have not heard many bad things against him.

I have hiked with him several times and very much enjoyed his company. I admit, I was concerned that he would talk politics the whole time because of all his posts but this was not the case. We talked a lot about previous trips, his cooking skills, and other things he has done.

The first time I hiked with him, I told him right away that after reading all his posts, that I was concerned that we would talk politics all the time. Yes, he told me that just likes baiting liberals, it was fun to him. After that, there was very little talk about politics unless he was asked a specific question (he is very knowledgeable). There was another guy on the trip, and they did like to talk politics. Normally, they talked when they were hiking next to each other. I guess I have to say that I have found him to be considerate. Hopefully, you told him you did not like his ways, I find it hard to believe he continued talking that way. I know I have enjoyed hiking with him.

Best of Luck in your future hikes and am sorry that it ruined your hike.

wannapb..I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Sometimes, all it takes is one jerk to ruin a trip.

For those of you that know Prosecutor, I know Karen...anyone who would knowingly bait and tease her to the point of being that uncomfortable is a bully and complete ass.

I dunno.

I have a pretty good nose for this stuff too. And am more than willing to push and pull the right buttons and strings to get the ball rolling if I can start a good TT fight.

I don't think this one's got real legs.

Too many people have defended Prosecutor in reasonable, level headed terms. Nor has anyone really used scorching insults on either party.

At this point it is likely to all fade away without a truly good brouhaha.

Clearly if either party re-joins the thread and out and out flames the other THAT would get things rolling.

But I just don't ahve the sense of it right now.

Everyone is being way too reasonable yet.

if mtn steven continues to "threaten" Prosecutor a la this note:

"“I don't wanna lynch him, just #&%!$ slap him a bit."

Then Prosecutor would likely focus his discomfort with Wannbp's statement and take it out on Mtn Steve.

Wannbp seems too nice for P-cuotr to attack . ..so he may go after a Wannabp proxy . . ..Mtn Steve could serve as that proxy . .

thus helping to ensure a good fight after all.

Long story short: bp2go gives a backpacker.com hat away for the best post once a month. Prosecutor felt jiped, threw a fit, claimed libel or something and threatened to sew after being thrown off the site. Or something like this. He harbors a grudge over the hat to this day.
