Cool Movie
We finnally got this in the mail from Blockbuster. One of the finest films I have seen in quite some time. In Spanish to boot! Anybody else seen it?

We saw it on Pay per view a few months back, very well done and powerful film regardless of your politics.

We saw a similar style movie last wknd called Salvador it too was great.

Yeah, Hollywood films are so awful for the most part, you have to see a foreign or independent film to enjoy a mature work of art. We watch alot of movies and it gets increasingly more difficult to find something decent. I am sure there are folks here that enjoy "Dukes of Hazzard", I even hated the show on TV. I like mind candy once in awhile, but not all the time.

I'm not so sure. I too thought it was a well done piece of cinematography, but for me it was tainted, knowing that this was C.G.'s life. The man was a monster, and I kept hoping for him to die in the movie...

Having said that, I'm not surprised whatsoever that Y2 is in love with it.

I liked the way the whole mood and flavor of the movie changed as his life did. It was very well done.

I much prefer the smaller movies now - they have to have a better story to work rather than relying on millions in special effect to cover up for a bad plot.

You suprise me.

Such illogical emotion.

The man was a monster, and I kept hoping for him to die in the movie...

He was a mass murderer - what's illogical about hoping for his death?

Even if you don't like the guy, it's interesting to see what helped shaped his views.

So he ordered, and/or particpated in the execution of a couple of thousand capitalist facist oppressive pigs.

So what?

YOu need to remember that it wasn't our war. we no longer owned Cuba. And in fact we were at the root of the vast disparity between wealth and poverty in the country.

So he killed a couple of thousand US cronies.

How about Somoza in Nicaragua.

Now he was OUR guy. So the fact that he fed political opponents to lions at his palace . .that was okay.

The fact that Harold Geneen of ITT corp gave the CIA $1million to kill Salvador Allende in Chile because ITT Kennecot Copper mines were threatened with nationalization . ..that's okay.

that we supported Augustus Pinochet . ..who was responsible for many more deaths than Mr. Guevera . . .that's okay.

How about Baby Doc Duvalier in Hati?

how about riht wing death squads in El Salvador.

Mutt -- sure. Che G. Was no picnic. But don't stratch the open scab of OUR record of support for right wingers with much worse track records in the Latin American region.

You will lose before you get out of the gate.

Again .. not to dismiss Che G's stuff.

Or to dodge your observation.

Accepted. Acknowledged.

But, just for #&%!$s and giggles. See if you can find a source that tallies the death tolls for various latin and south american dictators.

A numerical ranking would be great.

Then next to each, let's attribute "U.S supported", or "Scumbag Commie"

Then we'll add up each column and see who wins.

tell you what. You can credit ALL of Castros deaths to Che G. up to the time of his death.

Heck . .just credit him with all the political deaths in Cuba since the revolution.

I'm feeling lucky.

Lee, you're probably right. I've never really investigated it. But I wasn't trying to make a larger point of it. Che G. was a murderous commie scumbag - and it's particularly revealing when people (e.g. y2) admire him. My statement ends there. But like I said, your larger point is probably spot on.

Sure, I'll renouce socialism - it doesn't work. Your definition of socialism is way off the mark of what it really is though.

Politics as usual here on Trailtalk. Hey, I see it now, "Stalin - The Movie".

Mutt, I had no idea what the premise of the movie was when we rented it on pay per view. It sounded interesting in the description, I actually almost turned it off when I realized it was subtitled. Still I enjoyed it but after watching it I had to remind myself who it was about and who made the film (his best friend was very involved) and the motivation behind it. If I had known what it was about I wouldnt have rented it and that would have been my lose for sure.

Every socialist says that true "socialism" is something that nobody has done, so capitalists don't know how great it is, yet it's the greatest thing since sliced bread to them.

How do you know if nobody has really done it?

Maybe there is a reason nobody has done it.
