THE NEW BRONZE STATUEView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 6 of 6 messages posted.
“ ![]() This statue currently stands outside the Iraqi palace, now home to the 4th Infantry division. It will eventually be shipped home and put in the memorial museum in Fort Hood,Texas. The statue was created by an Iraqi artist named Kalat, who for years was forced by Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad. Kalat was so grateful for the Americans liberation of his country; he melted 3 of the heads of the fallen Saddam and made the statue as a memorial to the American soldiers and their fallen warriors. Kalat worked on this memorial night and day for several months. To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms. Do you know why we don't hear about this in the news? Because it is heart warming and praise worthy. The media avoids it because it does not have the shock effect that a flashed breast or controversy of politics does. But we can do something about it. We can pass this along to as many people as we can in honor of all our brave military who is making a difference.” 10:07:10 AM 8/17/05 “AMEN!” 10:09:12 AM 8/17/05 “According to this urban legends site, that story is only partly true. In fact, the artist is highly critical of the US in Iraq, and only made the statue to make money. This story is so old the statue has been at Fort Hood since Feb, 2004. http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_kalat_statue.htm” 10:12:41 AM 8/17/05 “always 2 sides to every story. Just pick out the one you want to believe” 10:18:15 AM 8/17/05 “Well, at least the artist had the option of making the statue for money instead of being given the choice of making a bust of Sadam or a bust of Sadam or a statue of Sadam! Thanks for sharing BWM. It's a beautiful memorial. Whatever the artist's intentions were, the message in the art is there.” 10:56:37 AM 8/17/05 “I wasn't busting on the message/sentiment. I fully appreciate that. Hope I didn't leave that impression. I just remembered reading about that story and looked it up.” 11:13:38 AM 8/17/05
