I can't go that weekend, but y'all have said you might switch it by one weekend either way if the colors look to be better at a different time, so I'm keeping my ears open. I'm actually going up there for a week for a - cough! - car camping trip a week from tomorrow.

Did you reserve the site, because I see the group site is already booked.

I've been checking it out, HM, and everyone says it should be fine to get a campsite showing up on a Thursday (there are something like 300 campsites in the valley there, most of which are not reservable). Photos of me lounging around a car camping campsite to follow!!!

Gonna be in WA that weekend so we won't get to see fall color, but we may get to see Ladyhiker on the way. She's been known to be colorful.

I would love to go, but am running very thin on abandoning my wife for my trips this summer.

Can you drive cars all the way to the camp? Also, are tent trailers allowed? (just askin')

Elida and I are likely to be able to go at least Sat. and Sun. (thanks, DM & Calipidder for letting us know about the trip).

I think Kathy said one car is allowed at the campground...but I claim that spot for obvious reasons! :-)

Not sure about the tent-trailer thing.

Ladymaritel,
Doesn't matter where I go as long as I'm on a trail somewhere. (That's if I can still go by then) You decide and I will follow.
However, If I had to bail, you would still have hiking parteners. On the other hand, I think the drive is a lot futher? Am I wrong?
I'll call you.

Songbyrd, I hope you can make it for this weekend. If I can coordinate carpooling with someone else in the Sacramento Area, we can go here. If not, and if you cannot make it, I can always find another trail closer. In the meantime, we can sign up as "maybe".

See you all there!
I just got approval from the time allotment committee (Mrs. Tahoe) to join all of you. I may even bring along a friend. I can't wait to see everyone.
And like many of you, I will try to get Friday off!

The reserve america site has this info on the campsite:

Located in the eastern Sierra, adjacent to Rock Creek. Campground is situated in a pine setting, on the shore of Rock Creek Lake.

Boat rentals are available. Interpretive programs are provided. Popular activities include fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, horseback riding and photography. Groceries and showers are available 1/4 mile away.

Important Information:
Tents must be on tent pads provided. Customer must clean toilets during their stay and remove trash as they leave.
No refunds are given for bad weather.
No vehicles on site of any type, including RVs. This is a walk-in campground.
No access for new campers from 10pm - 6am.

Getting There
Turn south off Highway 395 at Tom's Place, 24 miles northwest of Bishop and 10 miles to Rock Creek Lake. At the lake, follow signs to boat dock and group camp.

But when they emailed me my reservation confirmation it said one vehicle is allowed.

I'm not so sure about having to clean toilets - I don't even like doing that at home.
wingding0

The site allows 25 people, so it sounds like there's plenty of room for everyone. I'll probably just sleep in my truck in the parking area, so I won't need a tent pad.
