Looks sweet. I played with one of these and I liked the fact that the stove was lower to the ground than other fossil fuel stoves I played with. I have the Optimus Nova multi-fuel stove, which I love, but it's a heavy sucker. It's utterly without flaws in the winter and works very well for melting snow, but I bet most fossil fuel stoves are like this.

Yours looks pretty sweet.....doesn't look heavy though

I'm hoping to test mine out this winter as I gear up to do some winter camping. I haven't camp in the winter since I left the military back in 98 for college, but i'm sure it's the same but only with better, much better gear.

Oh for sure you have the right idea here! These things melt snow fast and you don't have to do a lot of screwing about keeping the fuel warm, etc. I recommend doing a lot of experimenting with pots and pans in the snow this winter to make sure you are 100% comfortable getting water. It's not hard to do, but it's a lot less frustrating once you have it "wired" with a system that works for you.

I use a double-boiler setup. It's an anodized aluminum setup I got for about $20-$25 bucks (forget where). I like it because I can boil water in the bottom section and collect snow in the top. So it's scoop, melt, pour, scoop, melt, pour, etc. The setup never gets cold and if I setup in a good spot I can get a few liters of water pretty quickly. I am not in the woods in the winter to listen to the roar of my stove ... I am there to listen to NOTHING (the dead quiet of the backcountry in the winter is perhaps one of them most mesmerizing things to me).
