Lost my boots
Ok I'm having an issue and I do not know how it happened. I've lost my trusty pair of Vasque Sundowners and I'm leaving for Colorado on Friday for a 4 day backpack trip in Rocky Mountain Park. Does anyone have a good sugguestion on a boot of good quality that will break in quickly? Any advice will be helpfull and hopefully my boots will turn up soon as they are my favorite pair of all time.

fast break in - use trail runners (and super feet if you are used to them)

HOI nailed it, trail runners.
Buy them RIGHT NOW and start wearing them to get your feet used to them.

I have TNF ultra gore-tex trail runners that are well broken in just didn't know if they would support the weight of the pack.

Also what is super feet?

Let me backup.
How heavy in pounds is your full pack?

HOI and I both go fairly light.

I used my trail runners in the Rockies for a week long pack a couple of years ago. They worked great.
My pack was right around the low twenties at the start at max.

I bought a pair of Merrel boots - soft leather, mid weights. They broke in really quick (about 20 miles of hikes). Wore them in Glacier with a 45 pound pack adn 52 miles with no probs.

timechine, only fix I know is to put the person that screwed up the thread on ignore, or else wait till 50 posts row over.

The thread is still readable. ;-)

Of course every boot company uses a different last so the fits are different, but the pair of Merrills I bought last year fit like glove and didn't need breaking in...making me very happy.

I am not a big fan of trailrunners for backpacking simply because I am nervous about foot injuries, etc. Give me boots.

Checked my feet and All I see are my big heavy steel toe boots. I have a pair of Vasque Zyphers that I would swear I've worn them enough that they should be broke in but everytime I hike I get a blister on my heal. I'll check out the Merrel's this afternoon.

I keep hearing great reviews and of ultra short break in from Chaco Garvins. Zappos should have them on your doorstep in about 24 hours.

I tried three brands before I found the Merrels. The Asolo's tore my feet UP. Really really really stiff (long break in) but the toe box was very narrow, so if you've got narrow feet they might be good boots.

Ok silly question (maybe) is there anything that anyone knows about or uses on there boots to help break them in faster? Like some sort of treatment.

saddle soap is great for softening the leather so it breaks in easier...you can get it in...well, duh...the shoe department

For leather boots, stand in a deep puddle of water untill the boots are soaked.
Then hike a few miles.

Fast breakin.

Thank God
I looked at the last possible place yesterday, my dad's car and found my boots and my granite gear stuff sack. Thank god I don't have to fret about breaking in boots before a big hike. Thanks for everyones advice on boots and things to use to break your boot's in more quickly.
