Its hangable, guess I'll see how it goes the first night. I'll sleep light, listening for them knawing away, get up and yell at them like they were bears!” 9:25:39 PM 1/15/06 “I've taken protein canisters into the Canyon 5 or 6 times, I don't hang them, and I've never had a rodent chew on them. That's no guarantee that they won't or can't, but I've never had problems.” 10:18:48 PM 1/15/06 “thanks cindy great idea btw” 10:30:03 PM 1/15/06 “wasn't my idea, I got it from some website somewhere... I think it's great, too!” 11:41:10 PM 1/15/06 “didya know the hermit trail is classified as one of the steepest & hardest trails in the canyon? isn't that on your route up Crash?” helinka 10:01:45 PM 1/14/06 I certainly haven't come close to doing all the trails in the Canyon, but I don't find the Hermit much harder really than the SK or BA. It's got some really nice fairly level stretches on it, which kind of make up for the steep parts. It's also got that great resthouse at Maria Spring. There ARE a few spots where rockslides have made the trail a bit hard to follow and slow you down, but you can generally see where the trail comes out again, and they aren't terribly long. Mostly you can see where everyone else has gone through. Don't forget to look for the fossil animal tracks! last edited: 1/15/06 11:54:33 PM” 11:53:09 PM 1/15/06 “cool! can you say whereabouts? that's something i'm interested in seeing! it's nice to know that the chosen route isn't as bad as i've been reading... actually it doesn't really rate as the worst, i was just kidding, but i did note that it is a nasty uphill slog. yipee! last edited: 1/16/06 12:14:58 AM” 12:08:19 AM 1/16/06 “it's in the series of rip-rap switchbacks in the upper part of the trail. They are right next to the trail. Much better than I can describe it, along with a great description of the whole Hermit Trail, is in Bob Ribokas' Hermit Trail description. A site packed with good Grand Canyon hiking information. I used to know which switchback number, but I forget now. I always count switchbacks, and then forget how many!!” 12:18:52 AM 1/16/06 “cindy lu, you ditz!!!! LOL! How are ya doing? :-)” 12:48:48 AM 1/16/06 “great link cindy lu thanks!!” 1:01:59 AM 1/16/06 “anybody up for cooking something good on the rim sunday night? Ill be just missing you! Im doing s. kaibab/bright angel loop the 10th-13th 1 day down 1 layover and 2 days out.” 10:39:43 PM 1/21/06 “re Sunday night food: I will go with the flow on this but would prefer something simple.” 10:47:30 PM 1/21/06 “steak and lobster. thats two things. simple” 3:40:22 AM 1/22/06 “simple for sure!” 8:13:36 AM 1/22/06 “Preferably something that is agreeable with the bod the next day. Pasta and chicken maybe. I assume were getting to Mather mid afternoon. Much later than that it could be a pain to set up camp and cook. Crash, I'm sending the DVD back to you unless you don’t want it, in that case I'll keep it.” 9:42:21 AM 1/22/06 “has everyone seen it?” 9:54:57 AM 1/22/06 ““has everyone seen it?” CrashBang - Yes JimmySan - Yes Prosecuter- Yes Jason L. - Yes Haspack - Yes Baume - ??” 8:34:32 PM 1/22/06 “no” 8:35:34 PM 1/22/06 “on to baume, then” 9:17:42 PM 1/22/06 “baume66, if you want to, post your address or email it to me I can get it off today.” 11:10:33 AM 1/23/06 “MEMEME! :D” 11:10:59 AM 1/23/06 Crash “can the other group see the DVD” 11:25:54 AM 1/23/06 “what other group?” 12:14:23 PM 1/23/06 Crash “knows who we are” 2:31:00 PM 1/23/06 “there is no other group” 4:06:17 PM 1/23/06 Old Dog “I have the video version if you're interested I'll send it to ya. E-mail me at paigefalk@sbcglobal.net” 5:11:54 PM 1/23/06 “haspack, i'll email you my home addy.” 5:58:56 PM 1/23/06 the first rule of the crash bang thang is “you do not talk about the crash bang thang” 6:18:35 PM 1/23/06 “Oh boy. Look who's home from work!” 6:20:34 PM 1/23/06 “been home for about 3 hours now. going to try to get some more trailjournal entries up before 24 comes on” 6:27:43 PM 1/23/06 “whats 24? Hurry up with the entries!” 6:44:43 PM 1/23/06 “Crash, I should be at the GC Sunday afternoon the 5th. Where should I meet you? Do you have a specific campsite number reserved at Mather? Keep an eye out for a blue honda civic with a roof rack and CA plates. Jason” 9:01:22 PM 2/21/06 “go to mather campground. find out where scott fecher is camped. no, i do not have a site number yet, but i imagine we will have our pick” 9:05:25 PM 2/21/06 “I did my food planning this afternoon. Going shopping for a few food items tonight. I am probably packing too many calories per day but what the hell.” 4:43:57 PM 2/26/06 “i ended up with about 13600 calories and about 8 pounds. you?” 4:47:23 PM 2/26/06 “My spreadsheet came out at 4006 calories/day @ 5 days = 20,000 calories. I probably don't need that much. I'll weight it soon. I was shooting for just under 2 lbs/day so less than 10 lbs total. It's all no-cook food.” 7:03:20 PM 2/26/06 “I'm about 12,000 calories @ 7 pounds. 2,300 per day usually ties me over for a couple weeks of hiking without weight loss. I wouldn't even be able to stomach 4,000 cal/day. I posted my packing list at: http://www.stiglu.com/temp/JasonsPackingList.htm I'm expecting it to be around 25 pounds with food and 2 quarts water. Can't wait, I'm pumped!” 8:46:02 PM 2/26/06 “Prolly won't pack it all. I think I made too much GORP is all. I could stand to lose the weight (literally).” 9:21:59 PM 2/26/06 “omg jimmy san, thats thru-hiker level eating. if youre under 10 pounds, ill eat my hat” 4:52:32 AM 2/27/06 “9 lbs but like i said i just made about 2x too much gorp. i'll be packing some time this week, work permitting.” 7:39:04 AM 2/27/06 “I'm going to bring my 5 degree bag and big down jacket for Sunday night on the rim and leave them in my car. It looks like it will probably be in the teens.” 9:18:47 AM 2/27/06 “we can just eat all my extra food to stay warm... :)” 9:20:05 AM 2/27/06 Jump to Page << prev
