Chuck Keiper TrailView Messages“Hey Spindlette - I might be up for joining you on a section of the trail. I am not sure yet. I've wanted to hike this trail for a while though.” 8:14:05 PM 8/24/05 “Oh that sneaky Trail Trollop! I didn't see she posted this trip...hmmmmmmmm” 9:04:52 PM 8/24/05 “LMG, you had eyes only for Banff when I put that one up. ;) ENS, let me know. I'm thinking counter-clockwise from the Lot with the view. This is my first trip there. Can't wait! :)” 10:38:43 PM 8/24/05 “Is there a bail out trail, if I wanted to leave sometime on sunday ? I cant stay for the whole thing, but would like to do some of that trail.” 7:35:48 AM 8/29/05 “There are a few road crossings and a cross connector trail that cuts the loop in half-ish. We could figure something out.” 7:45:56 AM 8/29/05 “I believe there would be lots of options. A major road separates the trail in 2 halves and there are plenty of other dirt roads. I'm giving some thought to going on this hike too.” 7:45:59 AM 8/29/05 “RichB, please do. Haven't seen you in ages. :)” 7:50:17 AM 8/29/05 “And we need to drag Ox out too...so I can get my shotglass back before it corrupts him completely. ;)” 7:53:34 AM 8/29/05 “It's been a long time since our Delaware Water Gap hike so I'm hoping to make the CKT.” 7:59:59 AM 8/29/05 “Game plan ? Which way ? Starting point, etc..... I looked in Jmitch's book, looks like 144 crosses 3 times. I didnt see any other bail out roads or trails, just alot of water!! I'm looking at a friday night or saturday am start. I dont mind night hiking to where ever the first nights camp site is. last edited: 8/29/05 7:53:28 PM” 7:53:05 PM 8/29/05 “Counter clockwise, from the "lot with the view" on 144. I don't exactly know which crossing that is. This is my first time there. Where is Jmitch? He'd know for sure. I'll email him.. How long can you be out for? There are a bunch of road crossings on my map we can use for a bail out.” 8:45:26 PM 8/29/05 “Going that way crosses some dirt roads, one is after climbing out of Fish Dam. There is another going into Yost Run.” 8:51:43 PM 8/29/05 “Coming out of Fish Dam is "Jews Run Road", theres the Branch Trail there which connects back to 144. The next one down is Fisher Fire Road which meets 144 between Bloody Run and Sowot camps. Along Burns or Yost Run would do for Friday nights camp. I'm favoring Yost Run right now.” 9:12:42 PM 8/29/05 “Jmitch emailed me back.. The trailhead on 144 is the big lot where the cross connector and both loops meet. 7 miles or so south of Renovo on 144. Anyone else coming out for only a couple days? Maybe some car shuttling can be set up?” 8:55:25 AM 8/30/05 “I'm probably going to do part of this. I have to see when I get back from St. Louis in two weeks. I'm going to need a good backpacking trip after 2 weeks of handling claims with out a day off. last edited: 8/30/05 11:33:31 AM” 11:29:33 AM 8/30/05 “the CKT has a lot of bail out options via dirt forestry roads. i prefer the west loop over the east loop.” 11:45:37 AM 8/30/05 “Good luck down there. I hope it's not too bad.” 11:46:57 AM 8/30/05 “RichB, please do. Haven't seen you in ages. :)” spindlette Same here, Rich. I saw ya on the OLP but we haven't hiked together since New Year's Day on the Golden Eagle. Spindlette - I haven't seen you in ages as well. Oh wait, I've NEVER seen ya, and you love closer to me than any hiker I know. What's up with that? I'm gonna try and make this trip. I'd like to do the whole trail. Hopefully, I can get Fri and Mon off. Tuesday would be a stretch but you plan on finishing the hike on Monday, right?” 6:23:40 PM 8/30/05 “I'm not going to be able to get there until Friday night. I want to make this trip. I will somehow try and hike in and find you guys.” 6:32:50 PM 8/30/05 “I'll be a friday nighter too. Build a big fire.” 8:11:01 PM 8/30/05 “Pennsy, it's been a long time. I'm expecting to get out more now that my hip is healed enough to backpack again. It's been a lousy summer with this injury, no mountain biking, no backpacking and just easy walks and short hikes. I'm hoping to make the CKT.” 9:57:06 PM 8/30/05 PA Trails “I've just returned to Florida from hiking the Appalachian Forest area for a week - great break from the heat, humidity and development. I'm planning to hike more frequently in PA in the future; please keep me on your mailing list if you will! Thanks, Christina cbrannon@cfl.rr.com” 8:04:06 AM 9/06/05 “Sure! Coming up for this one?” 11:25:42 AM 9/06/05 “Hey Spindle ~ I'm a definite maybe on this trip. Might not be able to do the whole thing, but I think I can at least make part of it. I won't know for sure until next week though ~ that okay?” 10:21:12 AM 9/07/05 “Sure. No prob. It will probably just be me for the whole length but the weekend is looking like a social event. :D Enjoy the BFT? Could it be any prettier, hm?” 2:10:56 PM 9/07/05 “Working on the TR for the BFT. What a great trail! Of course, Sunday's 10 miles were pretty much a blurry mess. I think we went paisley at some point. :P Pennsy & I were talking about the CKT this weekend ~ I would love to do the whole thing but eh...dunno yet. :(” 2:19:16 PM 9/07/05 “hehe paisley. I wish I didn't understand that. You are going to go this coming weekend, maybe? Go..take pics..bring me details. ;)” 2:25:24 PM 9/07/05 “No backpacking for me this weekend *GASP* I'll be in MD at a concert with MsKB, GM & BroodX (and MsKB's friend and BroodX's brother). Howza 'bout you? Going anywhere this weekend?” 2:31:03 PM 9/07/05 “Now that should be an interesting TR. ;) I forgot about the concert. Have a great time. Take pics I've a wee little couple days planned as a primer for next week. Nothing overly strenuous. Just eager for the weekend to get here already. BFT pics up yet?” 2:36:35 PM 9/07/05 “It will probably just be me for the whole length but the weekend is looking like a social event. :D spindlette If I go, and it's looking pretty dang good that I will, I'll want to do the whole trail. Is the plan to hike 4 full days, Fri thru Mon? 10 miles were pretty much a blurry mess. I think we went paisley at some point. :P lilmountaingirl It was those pesky endorphins I tell ya! Zoom zoom.” 5:50:57 PM 9/07/05 “Hey, yep I'm planning Fri - Mon and a tues to spare. Cool. Hope you can make it. The BFT does endorphins well, doesn't it? ;)” 6:50:12 PM 9/07/05 “I've a wee little couple days planned as a primer for next week. Nothing overly strenuous. Just eager for the weekend to get here already. BFT pics up yet?” spindlette 3:36:35 PM 9/07/05 Are ya doing an overnight as a primer? Weekend or next week? BFT pix are up. ;-)” 6:54:02 PM 9/07/05 “This weekend, two nights, some AT methinks, not definite yet. Just informed the family I'm going. ;) I see those pics! I love that place. Good work. So gotta go back again soon. Pennsy, I just remembered we're neighbors..if you can make it, lets think about carpooling,,,gas prices being what they are. Email me.” 7:25:22 PM 9/07/05 “Yo neighbor - you don't have an email address in your profile. Poolin would work for me, but I'd need to be home Monday night. I should be able to get off Friday and Monday. I'll know for sure by this coming Monday.” 8:36:37 PM 9/07/05 “Sorry, I could have sworn it was there.. chillawilla@juno.com hmmm...I'm thinking I might want to stay out until Tues...we'll see next week.” 2:36:37 PM 9/08/05 “Spinny - You got mail. Someone must have swiped your email address. Better update your profile. It looks kinda trollish.” 4:14:56 PM 9/08/05 “Back at you.. Trollish? Me??? goodness, never! ;)” 5:03:07 PM 9/08/05 “There, profile updated a bit. Bad case of apathy to detail on my part. ;)” 5:15:58 PM 9/08/05 “I don't think I can go :( I think I am going to sleep for a week.” 8:55:30 AM 9/11/05 “less apathy, more profiling! 'bout time, less sleeping, more bravado! you'll be able to sleep 10-12 hours each night on the trip, ENS. What more could you ask for?” 9:53:46 AM 9/11/05 “The eastern loop has one of the nicest ravines I ever hiked through. This was one of the first trails that I hiked in the midstate area. I came in late and could hardly find the trail so I camped in the clearing for the columbia gass line and then found it the next day. It was quite a while ago, but in the beginning I went through the bogs and after that if I remember correctly there was only one area in the East that was cleared but I think that was from fire, I remember it still being a bit black in places. Then it became hard to follow the trail in a few places because at times it wasn't marked well and it cut across some peoples land. Once across the private land and over the hill came the ravine. I remeber it being park like down by the stream. There was a bend in the stream and beautiful place to camp, but unfortunately I kept marching on and stayed much further up creek where it became a small stream and alomost ended. I really wasn't to impressed with the west loop because much of the trail went through the area that was devistated. At least it seemed like that because it was very low lying brush. All the trees were gone. When did they relocate the western loop of the trail?” 10:39:09 AM 9/11/05 “I think they relocated West loop in at least one spot near Fish Dam right after the tornado went through.” 11:22:15 AM 9/11/05 “hey Rich how the heck are ya?” 2:43:31 PM 9/11/05 “hey sirpassthestoneplease - where's that email with the Phil and Daves hike info?” 5:30:22 PM 9/11/05 “hahahaha” 6:16:46 PM 9/11/05 “I'm gonna sit this one out. The foot is feeling better and I would like it to stay that way. So I will control my bravado and use my head (this time).” 7:36:25 PM 9/11/05 “Wuss!! kidding of course (sort of). I'm glad your foot's doing better. I assume your Boiling Springs weekend went well?” 7:38:22 PM 9/11/05 “SirPete, Thanks for asking and I'm doing OK. I hope you are well too.” 8:00:58 PM 9/11/05 “Oh, yes. Boiling springs went very well.” 8:39:18 PM 9/11/05 “I went fly fishing near Boiling Springs a few years ago on the famous Yellow Breeches Creek for the September White fly hatch. It was a nice area. last edited: 9/11/05 8:46:16 PM” 8:45:38 PM 9/11/05 << back to Deam Wilderness page
