I'm considering going to visit an aunt in Pensacola over Veterans Day. The Blue Angels last show of the year is always there. P'cola NAS has a killer air museum. My kids have been, but not for an airshow.

Here's what we'd see: http://hideaway_fun.home.att.net/356/blue_angel.htm

My only concern is the noise. Anyone taken small kids to something this loud?

We have the largest and bestest airshow in the world here in Dayton (the birthplace of aviation ya know[wink]) and I've seen the Blue Angels before. The noise isn't too bad for kids. Maybe just take some ear plugs or have then plug their ears?

Haven't taken kids to the Chicago Air & Water Show. The "noise" is part of the experience, IMHO. And it doesn't last very long as they are moving at an incredible speed.

Thanks, that's sort of what I was thinking. It's been about 8 years since I've been to one, but have vivid memories of going as a kid and holding my ears for all they're worth when the Fat Boy takes off. I always love the mock bomb run they do.

The other point of the post was to link those pics. Those are pretty dang good.

My parents took me to see the Blue Angels when I was 4 or 5. The show was on my birthday and my father told me they were putting on the show just for me. The noise didn't bother me a bit but boy was I pissed when I learned he lied.

The Blue Angels are here(Indianapolis) this weekend. A local lady that runs a dog rescue shelter is sewing to try to get them to stop or alter their route. She claims, and has vet testimony, that the supersonic sounds from last year killed two of her dogs.

They usually don't go Mach at the P'cola show. Not that I recall anyway.

The best shows are allways at their home in P'cola.
The only really loud part is when they 'sneak' up and fly up low and behind the stands to scare the crowd a bit.

One of my greatest thrills was finally getting to see one of the Blackbird spy jets in person. I think there's only two in the world and we have one at the National Air and Space meuseum here at Write Patterson.

Check this one out. A B2 Stealth breaking the barrier...

How long is she going to sew? I bet her fingers will get tired!

There is a SR-71 at the Space Museum in Huntsville, AL. Very cool.

Yep, while I was testing a stove yesterday, the Blue Angels flew over.
When they had a show here in Indy in 2002, I met some of the pilots at The Columbia Club where I was having my first artist reception. I invited them to come down to join us, but they didn't make it. The President was at the club a few days before, and didn't stop in to see my show either.

We've got an SR-71 here at the Space and Rocket Center. I think there are more than two extant, but maybe there are just two on display.

Well, I started the post way before you, but I wasted time looking to see if I could figure out whether Nigal's pic of the B2 was 'shopped or not...

I think that the one we have here is actually an A-12.

I have a friend from HS that was a 15 pilot for a while. He got in trouble for doing an unauthorized mach run once.

OK, I found that picture on the net, along with an explanation. The B-2 is shedding condensation, not breaking the sound barrier. I was suspicious of that, since breaking the sound barrier is decidedly non-stealthy. A quick lookup at fas.org confirmed that the B-2's top speed is high subsonic.

I've never heard of that, bit. Is there a certain speed that it happens, or other conditions?

I imagine that it happens based on bunch of different factors. The description of the picture that I found says that's what's happening.

FWIW, I never heard of it either.

Nigal, I live about 10 min. from Wright Patt. I take my 2 boys over there all of the time. It is an awesome museum. They just added an F-22 flight simulator you can "fly". Pretty cool stuff.
