Gem...good luck with the new camera thing...there are so many choices out there these days.

MarkO, It's in CA....well almost in NV!
It's about 25 miles NE of Mono Lake/ Lee Vining.

Cool photos again.

Mark, if you like that engine ask WW if he took any of the hoists or steam engines. They had different ways of doing things back then.

Great stuff again, WW. The reflections in the windows reminds me of an artist's project here. He used some kind of pinhole camera... I think... and then shot outside through an otherwise blacked out window. He ended up with some real neat outdoor scenes as part of a theater lobby, etc.

Dang, I am going to have to post my shot that was "champion" at the county fair in Rochester, MN!! But I have to remember how to post photos..........

WW.....Bodie is my favorite place in the WORLD.....I could go there and just sit and imagine the town during its hayday and folks trying to survive the winters. Thanks for posting your beautiful photos!!!!

And winters were a problem.
Everything had to be imported, including firewood.
Only one mine ever made a profit, and that was only for a short time.

These look like Michael Hanson photos.

WOW! Wind Walker Images, Inc.®, these are incredibly fantastico! I normally don't like black and white, in fact I usually wanna spew my lunch when I see black and white, but although your shots are great in color, they RULE in black and white! I think it adds to the ghost-towny feel. Excellente' images. Let me know when you go public with your IPO, I wanna buy the first stock.

WW, I'm bringing this back up for a reason. Maple and I are going to vacation in AZ in October. She was talking about ghost towns today. I immediately thought about these pics. Your work has always blown me away, without fail. So, I am bringing this back up for her to view.

I've been to one that isnt listed in any guide books near death valley :) I'll try to find the GPS coordinants. But heck, if you are going to CA I suggest Mono lake with a quick day hike to the black fissure!!! OMG, you wont believe it. Again, I'll have to try and locate the GPS points cause there are some off the map petroglyphs around there too.

mapes, I was with a professor of geology and we were on a hunt one time in the desert looking for fossils, and we did some crazy rugged terrain (heart stopping freaky leaps over fissures and such) and we discovered a few previously unknown petroglyphs- one was a map to a oasis, and the one I found was a big hand next to a small hand on the rock with a sun and river. Yet another was a checker board like drawing.
