Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border.

Take the dirt from the moat and use it raise the levees in New Orleans.

Put those man eating Florida alligators in the moat.

Now. . . , any other problems you want me to solve?

I'm a monster for saying we shouldn't rebuild there ...

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves!

Here was my suggestion:

“You guys want to help these people?

Build a fence around the city and make sure they don't rebuild there.”

“Sarge, so you're saying that we should do nothing to help those in need?” - dayhiker

“That's not exactly a practical option considering the volumne of national and international shipping that comes thru that area.” - dayhiker

“Please don't feed the troll, dayhiker.” - VioLiN

“I have noticed sarge has been putting the bait out there on all threads. Seems very few are even biting - Ewker

“That ignore feature is wonderful. Maybe it's getting used more lately?” - Sassafras

“sarge, if a tornado comes through where you live and destroys your home I hope you don't accept any help from anyone. Didn't you know that a tornado could happen there and it would destroy your home.” - Ewker

sarge's statement is just as ridiculous as my bad humor. Hopefully New Orleans will get some type of WPA organization going to build those levies to withstand such a hurricane.” - Buddha Bear

I love how right after a disaster there is always someone halfway across the country who wants to piss and moan about how much it's going to cost them and how stupid the people are who live there. There is a large difference in discussing an issue and simply being an A SShole. - humanpackmule

“People dying and Sarge is worried about his pocketbook. Sarge you're so tight you must squeak when you walk.” - Y2

The only person who seemed to get it was fingerlakeshiker ...

sarge actually has some good points, to build in an area below sea level with levees to hold out the sea while waiting for the big one to come is not very smart. to rebuild there is not a good idea. - fingerlakeshiker

Just a few of the many thoughtless comments from many on here.

I agree, and those people in the Midwest that keep getting wiped out by Tornados...GET THE F%$K out of there....And you on the west coast who have forest fires and earth quakes...YOU ARE GONE, move to...NEVADA...no dust storms and Mormons there......and the north east where you get Snow Storms and Floods...Well you have one week to BE OUTATHERE...(LOL)...

Sorry but EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD has problems

You're comparing what happened in New Orleans to forest fires and dust storms? I take it you haven't been to New Orleans lately?

I think we're missing a huge opportunity here by not building it somewhere else. An achievment of that scale would show the world what we're capable of. It would also show the world how smart we are. Could it cost much more than what they're doing now?

Sarge, the interesting thing in that article that caught my eye consists of two statements:

...."He says the woman, who lives in nearby St. Bernard Parish, is working frantically to finish up by the start of hurricane season, but she can't find any carpenters or plumbers to help her. "....

Further down in the article....

"People are drinking and using drugs -- legal and illegal -- more"....."There are still so many folks out of work and in temporary housing...."

Seems to me that you're either part of the solution, or you're part of the problem.

And we (I included) have sent lots of many and people down to help clean up when they're not willing to help themselves. It is true that most of the people that live there are not pitching in to help.

I helped send people down to help clean up and get people out who were trying to get out. These people want handouts. You can't rebuild there for those people who aren't capable of thinking for themselves. They will die. One more time ... "They will die", if we continue planting them there in that location. It's inhumane to do so.

The business of blindly throwing your money down there to help rebuild is sick people. Stop thinking with your emotions, use your brain.

I think the people who have made a life elsewhere and say they won't go back are the industrious ones. I've seen that a lot of the people who went to Utah have been warmly welcomed and many are staying there.

Everyone has known New Orleans is a sinking city. Now new research suggests parts of the city are sinking even faster than many scientists imagined _ more than an inch a year.

...

The research, reported in the journal Nature, is based on new satellite radar data for the three years before Katrina struck in The data show that some areas are sinking four or five times faster than the rest of the city. And that, experts say, can be deadly.

"My concern is the very low-lying areas," said lead author Tim Dixon, a University of Miami geophysicist. "I think those areas are death traps. I don't think those areas should be rebuilt."

Dang I'm a genius. I warned you guys on this thread not to throw money at this waste 2 years ago, and was called a troll for it.

The place should not be rebuilt, and throwing money at it is like throwing it down the toilet.

Sure made some people feel good at the time though. How do you feel now for doing it? Bush should have followed his first instincts and stayed away from the issue.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-08-28-rebuild_N.htm

Two years after the devastating floods that followed Hurricane Katrina, the rebuilding of New Orleans, and much of the Gulf Coast, has largely taken two paths: communities that have rebuilt themselves using private funds, insurance money and sheer will — and publicly funded efforts that have moved much more slowly.

Galveston TX was similarly wiped out in 1900 (google galveston hurricane 1900). They didn't get federal aid, and probably not much state aid. They jacked up the houses, build foundation under them, and pumped sand and water onto the area to bring the ground level up at least 10 feat. The water ran off, leaving the sand, and all the houses then had basements, and were 17 feet higher. They also built a much larger sea wall.

THAT is what America is all about idaho bob.

I shiver at the alternative the others on here are proposing - that we sit around and blame the government while begging for the rest of America to send them money, most of which gets lost or wasted.

Galveston had about 5,000 residents vs. 500,000 in NO, not to mention all of the infrastructure (Galveston did not even have electricity at the time) of a modern city vs. a turn of the century city.

It's a joke to think that local residents of one of the poorest cities in America could afford to make repairs of that magnitude without financial and physical assistance.

Nice little dream world you guys live in...

I'm glad it's public. It shows the M.O. of Nigal. It's obvious Stove didn't predict anything, nor did he claim to. Nigal is just feeding off of XLs comment for the purpose of trolling. He's done a lot of that lately. Why is he doing that? Because he spread LIES about me on here when I wasn't posting and doesn't have the balls to fess up to what he said - so he pretends he doesn't read my posts and does little things like this. It's like a child who is trying to deflect attention from the fact that he stole a cookie. It's pretty transparant, and very revealing about the "real" Nigal, compared to the great Nigal he claims to be in numerous emails he bragged about himself to me.

Anyways, I'm not talking about me. I'm talking about what Nigal did. What he does isn't reflective of me, nor did I claim it was. It's his actions, I'm just pointing them out. Just like you, bacpac, just pointed out what you think I did. Are you the victim? You brought up my actions just like I brought up his. I'll continue to do so just like you keep doing what you're doing.

bacpac, where were you when Nigal was crying about me - talking about how I supposedly emailed him about things, acting like he was victimized by me? (lies, by the way)

That's my whole point. Nigal goes around crying making up lies acting like he was wronged - but he won't offer ANY evidence of it (because it doesn't exist), and isn't man enough to fess up to his false victim cries for help. He continues on trolling to shift attention from it. I'm just pointing it out. It doesn't bother me, because I have the opportunity to let the truth be known about his fake cries of how he was victimized. He called me childish names saying how I emailed him crying about Mapleleaf, when it was he who initiated an email to me about her about how I was being treated unfairly - I can prove it. He also cried about his claim that I asked him to post things for me on trailtalk. All I ever asked him to post was something that StoveStomper requested be posted when he was in the hospital. It had nothing to do with me, yet he lied and cried about it and acted like he was being victimized by me, then proceeded to call me ridiculous names based on that lie - again, I can prove it. He played the victim and he got caught. I'm just pointing it out and will continue to for as long as he tries to deflect from the truth. You'd think by now he'd be man enough to admit he lied and misrepresented what he was crying about.

The FACT is this....both the Big Sleazy and the Neighborhing Communities in Mississippi were devestated by the hurricane (reports say that Biloxi took a worse hit but that is not consequential since once you reach total destruction theres not much more you can do).

THE FACTS are Mississippi IS using private clean up, private (and insurance payments) to solve the situation. They encouraged early evacuation (as opposed to the Big Sleazy where they kinda sat there and waited for someone else to do it)

Biloxi is up and RUNNING, the Big Sleazy is sitting there whining....

Oh and for you libbies wondering "Why didn't GW intervene?" There is this neat document called the CONSTITUTION that prohibits the federal government from intervening in a state without the Consent of the Governor of that state. Strangely Haley Barbour requested Government Assistance, the Governor of Lousyanna refused the assistance until AFTER the storm.
