“We have decided to go to Virginia for my first taste of eastern "Mountains" (come on people, how can you call 4,000 feet in elevation a mountain???). We are going from 10/8-10/16. Details are being worked out right now but I hope to make some kind of loop that will includ First, second. and Third Peaks, and with a side to Mt Rogers. I have also never stayed in a shelter and am kinda iffy about that....I dont know ir I like the idea of a lot of mice running over me at night (ICK!) I think I'd rather sleep out under the stars.” 9:16:10 AM 8/30/05 “We have decided to go to Virginia for my first taste of eastern "Mountains" (come on people, how can you call 4,000 feet in elevation a mountain???). that's funny. i don't know how you western people consider it "climbing a mountain" or "peakbagging" when you start out at 11,500 and zig-zag along your wuss-backs "up" to the top of a 12,500 foot peak. and also, my dad can beat up your dad.” 9:24:26 AM 8/30/05 “Hehehe try the trinity alps sacco....5000' gain in elevation in 5 miles then a major scramble/free climb strait up over giant boulders and loose scree to get to the lake after that(even steeper). Really shoulda used climbing gear oin that one....:) Yeah, that trail kicked ass and was tottaly awesome with the views!!! last edited: 8/30/05 9:41:10 AM” 9:40:18 AM 8/30/05 sacco “LOL, spoken like a true flat lander. last edited: 8/30/05 9:41:26 AM” 9:41:04 AM 8/30/05 “LOL I knew mtsteve would back me up on that one! :) although switchbacks can be a real pain...I once did a climb with 37(then lost count) switchbacks after hiking 17 miles up and down all day- it was in full sun, no shade, about 85 degrees out...this was onthe PCT. I was fine, my hiking partner didnt do so hot cause of the heat. He freakin drank all his water and mine and the water souce was a muddy little pool a few miles back >:(. Luckily there were a couple little lakes on top :) That was jsut a day hike by the way...can ya imagine doing that with loaded packs??? Well...actually I can but I dont know if I would have survived LMAO! last edited: 8/30/05 9:45:53 AM” 9:44:25 AM 8/30/05 “sounds to me like a certain couple of loo-hoo-hoosers have never been to the great range or to the devil's path of New York State.” 10:35:05 AM 8/30/05 “Yea well, the mountains in the East, you have to climb uphill both ways.....So there!!! last edited: 8/30/05 11:04:32 AM” 11:01:46 AM 8/30/05 “Sounds like fun >:)” 11:04:16 AM 8/30/05 “Sacco, it sounds like you've never tried to breathe while climbing switch-backs at 11,000 ft.” 11:22:00 AM 8/30/05 “Hehehehe Yeah I'd like to see them death march at 14,000 feet! Its like hitting a freakin wall...Its all you can do to put one foot in front of the otehr and you move VEEEEEEEERY slow :) hehehe I started a fight. Its soooo easy :D” 12:40:05 PM 8/30/05 Sacco. “I have backpacked out East and it is easy not like being out West dude hit the trail and just shut-up! 8)” 2:08:39 PM 8/30/05 Ahhh, the Trinity Alps.... “There is a very nice "trail" that goes from the Sapphire/Emerald/Mirror Lakes trail over to Caribou Lakes that has around 100+ switchbacks and not a lick of shade. it's only killed one that I know of.” 2:56:04 PM 8/30/05 “that's funny. i don't know how you western people consider it "climbing a mountain" or "peakbagging" when you start out at 11,500 and zig-zag along your wuss-backs "up" to the top of a 12,500 foot peak. and also, my dad can beat up your dad.” sacco 9:24:26 AM Tell 'em dog-and-pony-boy!!! Those western trails are more like gravel paths, too. Whiteface Mountain on The Long Trail would make 'em holler, too!!” 3:07:02 PM 8/30/05 “oooo I jsut dare you marko to hit some of those trails in Trinity Alps and come back not whiped!!!” 3:12:18 PM 8/30/05 CMB “I have backpacked out West and it is easy not like being East dude hit the trail and just shut-up! 8) right back atchya!” 5:07:50 PM 8/30/05 Mt Rogers and Grayson Highlands... “...is one of my favorite places. Its my own feet the whole way. :)” 5:50:14 PM 8/30/05 “that's funny. i don't know how you western people consider it "climbing a mountain" or "peakbagging" when you start out at 11,500 and zig-zag along your wuss-backs "up" to the top of a 12,500 foot peak. Actually sacco, most Washingtonians don't call that climbing a mountain... We have Rainier. A place that usually requires a guide, technical gear and roping up to other people to cross glaciers, etc. <---Somethin' I have no interest in doing, btw! LOL! : p” 5:50:17 PM 8/30/05 “Good point pix! ITs backpacking, not mountain climbing :) (especially out east! lol)” 5:51:43 PM 8/30/05 “Didn't everyone used to say that in some old Billy Idol song, CB??” 5:52:06 PM 8/30/05 “i have no freakin clue what yer talkin bout, buffalo girl” 5:54:39 PM 8/30/05 “sure, prove me wrong pixie. and after all my complements to you on your solo thread. {sniff} not very pixlicious of you” 5:54:46 PM 8/30/05 “Being slow is fine. I find if I'm in a big hurry, I have to watch my footing more and miss all the pretty scenery. That's just wasteful. : )” 5:55:54 PM 8/30/05 “I'm sorry sacco. Just didn't want us to be lumped in with the rest of the westcoast. LOL! (Ok, no offense CA and OR!) ; )” 5:56:55 PM 8/30/05 “hmph” 8:06:14 PM 8/30/05 “sacco.........” 9:48:11 PM 8/30/05 “HAHA!” 9:51:10 PM 8/30/05 “you mentioned 3 peaks earlier, are you refering to the 3 peaks on Pine Mt, Wilson Creek Wilderness which is the 3rd highest point in Virginia or are you talking about Mt.
