“Went to REI in atlanta the other day, came back with:
REI ultra light jacket
rei tech tshirt
sierra designs hurricane rain pants
rei towel
jetboil stove with 2 canisters
for $250. a few items were on sale. Happy with the stuff so far, hopefully get to take them for a spin in the next few weeks..”

“A new REI opened here in California last week (Huntington Beach). First impression on walking in - WOW THIS PLACE IS TINY!!

Is VERY small compared to other REI stores, and the emhasis is definately on selling clothing.

You want a tent? sleeping bag? backpacking gear? They have a few on display and in stock, but it almost seems like backpacking gear is a nuisance. For most stuff you get directed to web-linked kiosks to find what you need, order it, then have it delivered to your home or come back and pick it up when it arrives at the store.”

Someone told me that REI stands for "Return Every Item".”

“Yeah, you gotta wonder about the size of the store. I prefer the large ones too, so I can browse around and see/touch everything. I usually buy more if I can goof around with the items first. The small stores turn me off to some extent.”

“See, you never go to the Clearance rack looking for something you need, per se. You just end up there and get wonderful lovely technical clothes for 50% off.

I always go looking for next year's outer-wear for the kid. I routinely get her winter and fall/spring fleece jackets for a steal. REI's clearance rack is one of my favorite places to be.

I wonder if I can get the price adjusted on my new scholer pants.....?”

“I went to the Oakbrook REI garage sale. Nothing overwhelmed me. I left with a pair of wp/breathable primaloft-lined mittens. I have been wanting a pair of these for a while, but couldn't justify the >$100 price most of the decent ones go for. I've been wanting them for cycling in cold/crappy weather and with the amount of biking I have been doing it made sense now. I scored a pair for $40 so I felt ok about it.”
