Pathman, thanks for starting this thread. It didn't occur to me to do anything other than report on the thread everyone was watching. This way everyone knows as soon as they see the thread in the list!

As far as needs, I don't know. His message was very short, just that he was alive and well, and that his house was standing but flooded. If I can get in contact with him again in the next few days I will try and see if he will tell me what his immediate needs are.

Guys, there is a possiblity I will have to go to his town to look at other damage in the next week or so. I just found out late last Friday and don't know for certain if I'm going. If I do go then it might be possible for me to get some goods to him. I'll be riding with other people, so that too is a constraint.

I am sooo relieved to hear Stovie is ok....thanks for letting us know...and thanks Ewker for keeping me updated via text messages....for some reason I couldn't get phone calls, but could recieve text messages...
...this was my first hurricane....I am located NW of Mobile....it was really BAD...I saw trees bend and touch the ground....I thought the windows that were not boarded up were going to explode....I cannot imagine what it was like near the eye....I don't know if I will ride out another....Lee had to go to Mississippi and work Sat. he said the coastline and that area was devastated....nothing there but debris...

I don't know what kind of coverage y'all are getting, but the Mobile station WKRG is covering the area so well.....we are really seeing what the damage is in MS and LA....
....the outpouring of help from Americans is awesome....I saw so many Georgia Power trucks in our area....in our area, almost everyone has power now....so now they are moving west to help others....
GAS is still a problem.....FEMA has taken over how much gas we can get...most say $25-$35...but it is getting much better....the lines are smaller, now that more fuel is being delivered.....some stations still have police there...I hear there are many drive offs...so many folks are not working and have no cash...
...Mobile County schools are not to start until Sept 12th until all the damage is fixed....and we have a curfew....

I just tried to give him another call. He must have his phone turned off because it routed me directly to his voice mailbox. I left a message asking him to give me a call, and that people want to know how they can help. I hope he will call me back, but he may be too busy doing other stuff to get right back to me.
bitpusher

I'm willing to drive stuff to him.
Here's the rub.

1. We don't know what he needs.
2. We don't need to be sending stuff he doesn't need.
3. No, I don't have a truck. I have a small car.
4. I live on the Atlantic Coast of Florida directly east of Stovie and he is about 8 hours away from me.
5. I have no idea of road conditions on I10 between him and me.

So....
One person needs to be the contact person.
That person needs to create the list of needs.
When we know his needs ONLY THEN should those needs be sent to the delivery person by a set date.
We need to determine who is the best person to do the delivery.

I'm willing to drive over but if there is a ton of stuff. Well, it just won't fit in my car. Plus if someone else is closer and willing that might be the better bet.

So it's decision time.

Thanks SC...WalMart, Kmart,...you name it...
Lee's son had a friend call......his family is from Biloxi and lost everything...all they had was the clothes on their backs, and some no shoes.....50 folks living in one house now...no power, thank goodness city water...we have been helping them...sorta adopted them...sending clothes, food, propane, charcoal, toiletries, ice, bottled water.
....I can't imagine losing EVERYTHING....I hope I never have to.....

When pedxing was burned in a fire, we went through this...and decided to send stuff (money, gift cards, etc) directly to him on our own. I think it worked well.

I know my support will be going directly to Stovie, not the Red Cross or other org.

I'm in. I have a truck.

I have heard that conditions between here and there are terrible, but I am willing to go. Once we find out from him what he needs, we can get it together and I can take it to him, wherever he is.

According to Mapquest, I am about 6 hours from where he lives, but some of that is on I-10, and I'm sure some of that is undrivable.

Div, did Lee take I-10 to go to Mississippi?

Sending stuff directly sounds nice but we don't know when postal service will be restored to SS.

Right now there is no postal service to SS.

Yes...he took I-10 and 90.....getting gas may be a challenge for you......I65 will be no problem....and then you can pick me up!!!

I know he will need cleaning supplies, mops, water, bleach ( to kill mold)

Actually if you try to mail something to his zip code the USPS will refuse to take it.

According to what I found here, the Mississippi DPS is prohibiting non-emergency travel in the Gulf Coast region. I don't know if a private citizen will be able to get down there right now. But perhaps in a couple of weeks.

I will be the driver...but we have to figure out what he needs. Plus, we have to figure out where he will be. He may be staying with his parents, not at his house. I will try and find these things out, but we have to wait for him to call.

Crap, I forgot about that.

Here in Atlantic Beach all the residents were issued passes so that we can get back into the town in the case of a hurricane.

No pass, no entry.
