Eric Hansen will be doing a slide show for his U.P. book on Sept 21 in Milwaukee.
I have his hiking Wisconsin book and it is a great resource so I am sure that this one will be also.

Hiking Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

A Guide to the Greatest Hiking Adventures in the U.P.

Where are the U.P.’s most memorable hikes and hideouts? Eric Hansen, author
of the U.P.’s first hiking guide, walked 900 miles across northern Michigan
to find answers. He found miles of quiet shoreline, thumping waterfalls and
sparkling cascades, and rock balconies with knock your socks off views that
stretch fifty miles and more.

His presentation will include slides of hidden gems like Shining Cloud
Falls – as well as the scenic viewpoints of Drummond Island’s Marblehead,
the Tip of the Keweenaw’s Bare Bluff and the Trap Hill’s Norwich Bluff.

Eric’s writing credits include extensive writing for Backpacker Magazine,
and an earlier guidebook, Hiking Wisconsin. His essay on the U.P., and its
iconic Coaster Brook Trout, ran recently in the op-ed pages of the Chicago
Tribune. Eric’s nominations for Wisconsin’s Ten Natural Wonders were a
feature in Wisconsin Trails Magazine last year. Widely traveled, he is a
veteran of 21 treks to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

Join Eric for a slide show and book talk on Wednesday, September 21, 7p.m.,
at Schwartz’ Books at 2559 N. Downer Ave., Milwaukee.

Sounds cool Firebug. Fill us in on the book and if we must get it or if it's the same ol' porkies and sylvania and whatnot

I love his Wisconsin book. It's a regular on my reading list as I plan hikes. I may just try to make it to Milwaukee for this. I want to hike all the trails in his book. He really knows how to plan a hike that "tells a story" that is more than just the distance covered. Don't know if that makes sense to a lot of people, but it does to me.

Eric does not write just about the popular trails...he specializes in the out-of-the-way places..I know, I'm heading back to one of his secret backpacking trails today...the decision I must make? on the beach or in the dunes...the risks, I wonder if I'll see a bear this time...the chances of seeing anyone? pretty much zip...he turned me on to the Traps years ago...

MHH - Eric also turned me to the Trap hills and I loved in there. I have done several hikes in his Wisconsin book also. Have a great time on your hike to the "secrect trails". He had a couple listed n his book that sound like they almost never get used. See you october.

Check the photos section for my pics from three hikes in Eric's Hiking Wisconsin book: Jerry Lake Segment, Chippewa Lobe (pics are in teh Jerry Lake Segment pic), and Wildcat Mound. Look in the trip planning section for my Marengo Ridge trip for later this September for plans to hike a 4th.

OK, so Eric did a great job tonight. It was neat to meet someone that wrote a book that I have totally depended on. I got his new book on the UP and he signed it. He's a neat person, one of those guys that can talk to you like he knew you his entire life. Very open.

That said... only firebug made the trip so I am really bummed more TT people weren't there. Oh well!

Great to meet you pitts.

Yeah, I thought to that more would be there.

Shoot, I had a couple hundred in my pocket to go out drinking with. we should have stopped for a drink even with the others not showing up. I do not know how much drinking you would want with a couple hour drive ahead of you. (Sorry, I should have asked.)

It was a good thing I split. Traffic down I-294 was insane, and this at 11:30 in the evening! They had it shut down from three lanes to one in two different places. This after I suffered horrid traffic getting OUT of Chicagoland. There was an accident shutting off the off-ramp of Lake Street and I-355 so everything was a mess. I left three hours ahead of Eric's talk for a 1 hour 45 minute trip and was 10 minutes late!

It was great to meet you as well. Look forward to seeing you again in the near future.
