Hey ya'll...

I'll be arriving in Seattle tomorrow and will be there until Friday. I've got a training class to attend there and will be staying at the Fairmont downtown.

I've never been to Seattle before, but I'm traveling with another person that has. Hopefully, we can get out and do some walking each day and goof off.

After flying home next Friday, I'll hit the road to Virginia for a week of backpacking on the AT...life sure is rough.

Rember..feeding the bums is bad ;-)
But seriously, get out and drink a lot of coffee and see the sights :-D Such as REI, Pikes Place, the water, the freezing wind, the rain...and if ya feel like a touron, take a water tour-they are fun. Or go over to Alki Beach for dinner at Salty's....that is fun!

Salty's??? ICK! lol. Alki is awesome though! A trip up the Space Needle (super touron alert!) is fun too.

MDSHiker... any chance we can call out the Posse for you, maybe on Wed night? Email me and I'll hook it up! :)

Did someone mention FOOD???
-Wild Ginger is close and ROCKS for Thai food.
-The Brooklyn (hit their happy hour!) for seafood and/or steaks. They have good drinks too.
-The Dahlia Lounge. No, I've never been personally, but I've always wanted to! The chef is world famous... You should go and give me a review. :)

-Dicks (a Seattle icon!) for the best greasy fries, burgers and chocolate milkshakes. Cheap too!

Sarbar...Save some of those maple syrup snicerdoodles for me! YUM!

DDX, if'n you wanted to fly out for the party, you could prolly stay at Sarbar's. (Like how I volunteer ya like that? ;) )

Thanks for the advice everyone. I walked over to REI last night and it wasn't a bad walk at all. Then we walked over a few blocks and had a beer at Paddy's.

After walking back towards the waterfront, we stopped at Anthony's and had a nice seafood supper. Phew...didn't realize Seattle had hills. ;) I'm enjoying the city...too bad I'm in class all day. Blah.

Hehehe!!! Seattle has one less hill now than it did when it was founded. They dumped one into the Sound. Aka Denny Regrade.

Ask Pixie about Paddy's. ;) Good stuff! Man does the bar tender know how to fix drinks. Turtle and I were just talking about that the other night!

Last night we went to the "Metropolitan Grill" and had the prime rib with a spinach salad. OMG...I could hardly walk back to the hotel. That was the best hunk of beef I've ever had. The waiter immediately asked me and my buddy where we were from...I guess that Alabama talk is hard to miss.

Tonight is my last night in town. I've really enjoyed seeing the city and would like to come back and visit some day. The one thing I like about this town is that everyone seems to be wearing some sort of outdoors jacket...even with a dress shirt and tie. Ha ha...my kind of place. I brought my soft shell to wear around in the wet weather and I fit right in.

I'm flying back to Bama tomorrow and then will leave for Virginia the next day. I'm looking forward to getting on the trail for a week in Virginia. I've been walking around Seattle at night for a few hours each night...up and down the hills. I should be in pretty good shape for next week!!

Hi Seattlites,

I checked out the Wild Ginger on City Search for restaurant reviews and they were many bad reviews with a few people saying they had a good meal there. Forget about the service. Dicentra, you must have hit the place on a very good day for them and ordered the exact item that is their best entree.

Hasn't anyone gone to the International District for more authentic Asian food and does anyone have recommendations? I always figure to go into the restaurants with the most Asian people and one that's busy if I were to just look around. I've done that in other cities and it seems to work.

I'm not into Teriyaki or Pho Noodles places.

Funny. Everyone here at works LOVES Wild Ginger! They are catering our big party next week (and they don't DO catering)

I won't be at the party, so I'll have to go try them again I suppose. ;)

dicentra, I go to city search and it is common at times to get mixed reviews, but when I see a lot of bad ones, then a few good ones, it makes me think that staff or the owners wrote them. Restaurants do have off days where there are different chefs working where the food can be very different. You should check out the site. I think you would find it interesting since you've been there. You may even want to give them a good review for a boost if you feel they really are good.

Here's the link where you can go to "user's reviews". There are 71 reviews!!!!

http://seattle.citysearch.com/profile/10767440/seattle_wa/wild_ginger.html

Could the bad reviews be from one disgruntled customer posting over and over? You never know!

lipstick. Wild Ginger was voted best restaurant in Seattle several years in a row. They got 9.1 points out of 10. I wouldn't call that bad reviews!
But if you want authentic Asian food of a certain region, it's not the restaurant for you. It's Asian Fusion.

pix, I'm not really a big fan of Asian food since I'm finnicky, but I wouldn't mind finding a good one since my husband likes Asian food. I just eat wonton soup, fried rice, chicken with broccoli and lo mein.

We really haven't experimented at all with all the different places. He gets the basic teriyaki beef or chicken by us. I'm sure there are a ton of good Asian restaurants since there are so many of them. I've done the bbq thing where they give you beef and chicken etc. to grill yourself at your table. It was okay.

Then I think we went to the Mongolian Grill, but it freaks me out to watch them cook my food where they are cooking seafood since I don't eat seafood. As you can see, I'm a problem, lol:)

Maybe the bad Wild Ginger reviews came from people with different expectations of the place. I can see that happening with Asian foods since the different provinces cook differently and then the fusion thing.

I went out on a limb and went to some Thai place in Tacoma and had chicken satay and the chicken with the peanut sauce. It was pretty good. I think I have to acquire more of a taste for it by trying it again.

I'll go to Jyjima Village; I know I spelled that wrong. I'll get fried rice or lo mein there. The Phillipino food never looks good. They always have fish heads hanging around, lol:) Even at the Great Wall store in Auburn which is a mini mall if you haven't been there, they have food stores and an Asian grocery store and again, the Phillipino place serves fish heads!

I got a great deal on a huge bottle of Maggi's Seasong from there for about $4+ when it goes for $2.99 for a tiny bottle in regular grocery stores. It says it's made in China so I figured I look for it there and it was a big score. I use it all the time on plain baked chicken.

Hi, all. Remember how our train was over 8 hours late getting into Eugene? We called Amtrak, and they sent us vouchers for $150 each. The whole trip was only a little over $300, and the other trains were on-time or almost on time. Yeah, on the road again.
