I do feel that we all are who we are because of the choices we've made. We learn more from our mistakes. I can probably count on 1 hand the times I drank in HS, but I did drink a beer or two. This instance with Jay sounds like it was all he did too. The previous arrests is the big issue. You've been arrested, you have to more careful than your buddies now.” 11:38:30 AM 9/12/05 “LOL..hahahahahahaha....cute.....” 11:39:25 AM 9/12/05 “Smells of troll. And, since when does being a teenager become a valid excuse for anything? "I didn't mean it. I'm a teenager and that gives me a license to do stupid, irresponsible stuff that should have no consiquenses on me" (although his actions may cost others.)” 11:44:49 AM 9/12/05 “I shouldn't have been making such inferences on decimal points - different people have different scales. I may have been mistranslating. I think the level at which people can't walk unless they have acquired a huge tolerance is 10 times what JN had - after rethinking things. Apologies. It is true that a 16 y/o should have .000. And it is true that on lots of scales a .04 is consistent with a single beer. On the one I was thinking of .010 is the legal limit and .04 is toxic, but I think JN was scaling .1 as legal and .4 as toxic.” 11:44:55 AM 9/12/05 “Well, if they're 16 they should be 0.00.” Ruby 11:23:38 AM 9/12/05 get real!! most kids have had a beer, wine or liquor by 16” 11:50:14 AM 9/12/05 “I had only attended a few parties as an underaged drinker. I knew it was wrong at the time, but when you are 16-18, you pretty much think you are always right and your parents are always wrong.” 11:51:58 AM 9/12/05 “Well, if they're 16 they should be 0.00.” Ruby 11:23:38 AM 9/12/05 get real!! most kids have had a beer, wine or liquor by 16 Ewker 11:50:14 AM 9/12/05 I guess you're right. That sounds like a fantastic defense. I was referring to what his BAC should be legally. Everyone knows that many people try alcohol before they are allowed to by law. But that doesn't make it right. last edited: 9/12/05 11:58:09 AM” 11:57:24 AM 9/12/05 “is this horse dead yet?” 11:59:46 AM 9/12/05 “...my daughter had a friend who was about 16 and was going to a party.........she told her not to go.....the girl went....she drank....she woke up nekkid, bite marks all over, bruised , raped, and one nipple barely attatched. What is sooo bad...we know who did it...they were all friends.....I THANK GOD my daughter didn't go!!! YOU need to be CAREFUL, even around those you call friends!!!!” 11:59:53 AM 9/12/05 “I guess you're right. That sounds like a fantastic defense. Ruby 11:57:24 AM 9/12/05 no defense, just thought you were living in a fantasy world.” 12:04:53 PM 9/12/05 “OMG div, did they put the sorry SOB's that did that in prison? I hope they threw away the key. How is the girl doing now?” 12:06:55 PM 9/12/05 “She was not honest with her parents......they only knew about the nipple....( no rape test at the hospital), so when the parents finally did learn the truth, there was nothing they could do because they had no proof....” 12:10:11 PM 9/12/05 “My mother never made drinking a big deal to me. She taught me that like anything else doing to excess is bad and that it’s not good to let something take control of your life. She even let me drink at home occasionally on special occasions, New Years, Christmas, camp outs etc. Because of this attitude I never thought drinking or smoking was “cool”. I remember thinking other kids were lame for bragging about getting drunk or drinking. Of course in other countries it’s legal to drink under 21 and things are fine, but it is illegal here so you have to decide whether or not it’s worth it to you to do it. I say you’ll have many more years after 21 for this kinda stuff than you will under 21 so enjoy being a kid. Booze can wait. Now I know you’re post was more concerned about your punishment then about what you were doing wrong. Typical teenage thought process. So here’s my story about consequences. Two of my friends in college had prior convictions and they got busted for MIP. They just got probation. They were even allowed to pay a higher fine so it would not show up on their record. Not sure if this would apply to you though, they were a little older and were in a different state. last edited: 9/12/05 12:20:26 PM” 12:10:32 PM 9/12/05 “Now you go to the slammer and get gang raped by the other prisoners. Heck of a punishment for one beer, isn't it?” 12:11:06 PM 9/12/05 “One choice......one drink.....date rape....” 12:15:15 PM 9/12/05 “div - how awful, I feel nauctious (sp) just reading all of that.” 12:17:07 PM 9/12/05 “I just had that talk with my 15 year old the other day. I talked to him about this because well, you just have to. It started all with him saying that liquor smells disgusting. I laughed and said..u may think it's disgusting now...but there will be a time where you will try it. same speech...I know I can't be with him 24/7, and I am hoping you will make the right decissions...yada yada yada... I also want him to know that IF he ever drinks [for whatever reasons] that I will be there to pick his ass up, all it takes is a phonecall. don't matter what time, don't matter how old or young he is. The last thing I want is a car accident because he was too scared to call me. as a parent it's really hard to find a middle...trying to be cool enough so your kids trust you and come to you if they really need to, but you also have to be strikt enough so your kid knows that drinking is not an option. yeah...they all will get drunk sooner or later...more important is that they will learn out of the mistakes they've made or they will end up dead or in jail. i could go on about this forever. I am not SO MUCH worried about kids getting drunk as much as I am worried about the consequences, about them not learning from their mistakes. Oh...and I don't agree with telling your drunk stories and pretent you are asking for opinions if all you really wanted is to brag about how #&%!$in' drunk you got the night before and that your still alive even you did get taserd with a stun gun. That scares me and shows me that this person has not learned a thing. last edited: 9/12/05 12:30:10 PM” 12:25:37 PM 9/12/05 “I didn't have my first drink until I was 26.” 12:37:54 PM 9/12/05 “I didn't have my first drink until I was 26. how'd you not get dehydrated? LOL” 12:39:45 PM 9/12/05 “I didn't have my first drink until my oldest brother was 26.” 12:39:48 PM 9/12/05 ““I didn't have my first drink until I was 26.” DeoreDX That's just wrong. Life is short, Drink up. Unless you're freaking 16!” 12:45:14 PM 9/12/05 “ I also want him to know that IF he ever drinks [for whatever reasons] that I will be there to pick his ass up, all it takes is a phonecall. -Gem My mom did this. She always knew my whereabouts. She remembered being 13 and sneaking out of the house. She knew we'd go to parties... I was a partier. I started drinking at 15. Fake ID at 18. But alcohol wasn't some big deal in my house. It wasn't mysterious or anything. I still hate being drunk and avoid it. LOL! Just say no to shots. : p” 12:50:01 PM 9/12/05 I smell a big lie! “How were you allowed to leave the premises without your parents picking you up?? So the cops let you drive away from the party?” 12:54:03 PM 9/12/05 “Repent heretics... drinking is of the devil!” 12:55:22 PM 9/12/05 “Don’t be a complete doofus and learn from this experience. Next time you’re drinking at a party while on probation and you hear people yelling that “the cops are here” while you’re in the bathroom… you jump out the window and hit the ground running. Dumb ass.” 1:01:44 PM 9/12/05 Pixie “My familly was a lot like that. We were "Allowed" to drink beer/wine with the familly/friends at the house, but responsibility was taught as well. Not, "go to parties and get #&%!$ty and get arrested." Mmmmmm. Beer. It's getting late here. See you guys later. It's cantina time.” 1:04:06 PM 9/12/05 “Will! Exactly!” 1:17:03 PM 9/12/05 “My parents would allow my brother and I to drink, but to tell you the truth I never really found any enjoyment in it. It was always more of a "cool kids are doing it" sort of thing when I was in HS. With most of my friends we never really found a need to drink and we always had a good time. Anyhoo... in the hills of Tenessee most everyone smoked pot, it was much cheaper and much easier to get for a highschooler then beer or alcohol. I never had much of a compulsion to do that either.” 1:45:50 PM 9/12/05 “Oh... if you believed I never had a drink till I was 26 I have a bridge in San Fransisco I'll sell you cheap :D” 1:46:28 PM 9/12/05 ““Oh... if you believed I never had a drink till I was 26 I have a bridge in San Fransisco I'll sell you cheap :D” DeoreDX 2:46:28 PM 9/12/05 ignore this user How much? Do you accept Monopoly money?” 1:55:11 PM 9/12/05 “The misguided urchin seems to have left the premises - no doubt telling friends what dumb jerks the old folks are.” 2:20:12 PM 9/12/05 “ALright i'm gonna apologize to the people i offended... I just didn't appreciate people criticizing my parents and saying stuff like "Wahhhhhhh, cry me a river?". Have any of you seen me complain in my post? No. I was simply asking for information. I NEVER asked for dozens and dozens of people to give me lectures... I've gotten plenty of that, but once again, all I asked for was INFORMATION. And yes, forgive me that I attended a few parties, and yes, i'm gonna improve on my decisions. Some of the other reasons why I got a little heated up was because from the posts it made me feel that you guys thought I was an un-inteligent, stupid, normal teenager... I smell a big lie! “How were you allowed to leave the premises without your parents picking you up?? So the cops let you drive away from the party?” Did I ever say that too? No. Every single person was picked up by a parent. Please read the posts before you call me a liar.” 2:26:18 PM 9/12/05 “Oh...and I don't agree with telling your drunk stories and pretent you are asking for opinions if all you really wanted is to brag about how #&%!$in' drunk you got the night before and that your still alive even you did get taserd with a stun gun. That scares me and shows me that this person has not learned a thing." I was not posting this to brag, I was posting this because from the second the police had showed up, I've been feeling like puking from how sick I am of the situation. It just would've really helped if I could've gotten yes, a little bull #&%!$ like "theyre not gonna throw you in Juvi" for god sakes. So basically I posted this post to get the sickness out of my stomach from the fear I had of going to court.” 2:29:41 PM 9/12/05 “#&%!$...posting on TT to receive only a little bit of info...hahahahahhaahahahaha!! Wrong site!! here's the deal...you show us respect while talking to us...we'll treat you with respect. Well, at least I will.[can't speak for the others] The question about your parents would be a question any judge or police officer would ask you. As far as I know your parents could get in a hell lot of trouble just because YOU got drunk. [that's what happend to a friend of mine...but I am not 100% sure...well because it's hear say]” 2:32:40 PM 9/12/05 “Jay everyone here on TT is like a big family. We are like the aunts and uncles giving unwanted lectures and advice sometimes :) But really, when you are in a big pinch (like ped or SS) we come together and help one another. I am glad that you are learning from this expirience. Perhaps abstaining from drinking while at a party would of been the better choice (especially with so many people which is bound to be busted). But then again, I had my first drink ever in Jr. High. I am no angel, but I learned quick and I never over did it.” 2:33:08 PM 9/12/05 “Darlin'....YOU asked and TT gave......if you ever post here, you WOULD know that by doing so you would get good info and alot of hastle....why don't you call a lawyer....they usually give out some free advise....or try one of those free lawyers.... ...BTW...you didn't offend me, but I just wanted to share....I am an old broad....raised 3 kids and made alot of bad decisions as a young adult...... ...You need to talk to your parents about this situation.....it is THEIR job to help you thru this... ...I wish you the best of luck...I really do...I hate to see kids in trouble...turn to a trusted adult for help.....” 2:37:04 PM 9/12/05 “J if you post ANYTHING here expect to get flamed one way or another. It's just the way of this board. Beer ain't worth the trouble.” 2:45:18 PM 9/12/05 “********************************************* FYI. Most job and college applications ask you if you have ever been arrested. If you lie and leave it off, then they can use that as grounds to terminate you later on. My kids are finding that urine tests are the normal part of getting even minimum jobs anymore. The better entry level jobs are sometimes very competitive.” Phil 12:01:06 PM 9/12/05 ******************************************** Phil is right. You need to realize that getting arrested can be a problem when applying for college or work... With the number of students applying these days, why would a college want to admit you over someone else? Getting in trouble with the law means that when you apply to college (if you plan to go), you will have to explain yourself and what happened.... Trust me, after the incident in Chicago with the horrendous hazing on a high school team, and the gang-rape case of the "prep school boys" in another high school, Colleges added the "have you been arrested" language to their applications. If you lie on an application, they can choose to deny or revoke your admission. The colleges realize that students today can be inclined to get into bad behavior, and they don't want someone around the campus who could do harm to themselves or others. I know that colleges care, because I've seen it happen before--through my job. Do yourself a favor and step back from the situation. Realize the advice given to your by others here is mostly from an adult point of view-- and from some of those who have been there and "done that"... Yes, some have offered harsher words than others, but then again, they are trying to show you what reality may be-- i.e. they aren't sugar coating it for a reason-- that's the way the real world is.... Yes, drinking is popular in high school. and, despite what other kids may tell you, YES, you can survive high school and have friends and have fun without drinking. Making the decision to attend a 60+ person party was a decidely bad choice. IF you want to climb mountains, and you plan to raise funds to do so, you are jeapordizing your ability to gain sponsors when you participate in illegal behavior. YES, underage drinking is ILLEGAL, just as much as smoking pot is illegal for everyone, except those prescribed medicinal marijuana in exceptional cases.) Think about your future. Do you want to climb mountains and conquer the world? or would you prefer to watch as others go to the places you dream of and leave you behind? In order to get the things you want in life, you sometimes have to make personal sacrifices, whether it's money, or changes in behavior. Universities and companies love sponsoring the kids who have ambition and goals and who work diligently towards those goals. Some places do like to work with "at-risk" teens, but others shy away from kids who have been arrested-- the level of trust that the teen will behave appropriately can be eroded by poor choices and bad behavior.... So, I suggest that you get a picture of mount Everest and also your ticket (I'm assuming they at least issued you a "MIP (Minor in Possession ticket")) and put them on your bedroom door-- maybe next you your mirror or something like that. On one of them put the words "MY GOAL" and then remind yourself of where you want to be each day. Write yourself a list of steps to get to that goal and review it often... Take your consequences like a man... (yes, a man, not a boy). You apparently felt that you needed to assert your manhood by drinking like a man, so now you need to take your punishment like a man as well. If you are offered community service as an option, you need to approach it with gusto. You will need to show others that you are not the disappointment that they now see.... THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE DONE HERE... you basically disappointed the people who were cheering you on for having the goal of climbing a mountain.... Actions speak louder than words. Prove to us that we can be on your side in your aspiration to climb mountains.... Show us that we are wrong, that you are responsible and that you have higher goals in mind than the buzz you might get off of a few beers with a group of buddies who could care less about whether you climb a mountain or jump off of it.... Either way, you are now at the crossroads. Take a long look at the path before you. Put energy into the right path and maybe some of us will see you at the top of the mountain someday!” 3:14:00 PM 9/12/05 “16 and NOT in school today??? no state listed on residence..... shall I say it?????” 3:17:57 PM 9/12/05 “Divinity- I think Jaynewalll mentioned elsewhere that he was from New England somewhere (I recall that from a while back). Also, some high schools get out very early (2:30 p.m. or earlier, depending if the student has "Co-Op" classes) last edited: 9/12/05 3:23:04 PM” 3:21:51 PM 9/12/05 “hey pink! how are you? getting excited here. the big walk is next weekend :D” 3:25:33 PM 9/12/05 “if it shows as 2:30 for div then it's 3:30 for Jay.” 3:27:31 PM 9/12/05 “oops.....'mI bad??????” 3:30:36 PM 9/12/05 “Hi Spirit, How's your training? Good luck in your walk! did you raise all of your funds? I'm a few hundred shy of my goal of $3,000....” 3:31:58 PM 9/12/05 “yes you are bad div ;)” 3:32:22 PM 9/12/05
