Do any of you look down on a rainy day? I've got a 105mm f2.8 1:1 macro that I always break out when it's overcast or rainy. I'm just curious to know if Buck or Pinkbublz or Wind Walker or Lizs or anyone else does any macro photography on their trips.

Just a little sampling from the new D70s

I've tried but it always seems to be windy whenever I break out the tripod.

Sort of...
Not quite a "macro" (no macro lens) but this is shot with my 100-300mm from a tripod in the street.

I love taking small intimate pictures of the national parks I visit (i.e. photos of the bark on a tree, the moss on a rock, etc.)

I'll have to dig up my photos and see what I've got!

I am macro-lens impaired. I have no not one. I would like one though. I'd like to see the various facial expressions on a cockroach. You know they get a kick out of freaking us out, you just know it.

Nice flower shot, by the way.

Photoshop CS2's greatest new feature is called "Merge to High Dynamic Range". It looks to me to be the perfect solution to lots of landscape photographers problems, especially the digital pro. A tutorial and description of this new feature can be found here

I pulled this guy off of me last year sometime. I was a quick shot so there is some blur. The white stuff near it's mouth is my skin, I think.

Yes, Merge to HDR is an amazing feature. From Hobbit's link:

"It's been brought to my attention that the new Nikon D2X allows bracketing in 2 to 9 steps, in 1/3, 1/2, and 1 stop increments. This is user selectable thru both the front and back command dials while pressing the Bracket button. Along with the Canon 1 series cameras, which also can display ISO in the viewfinder, these are among the only cameras which meet some of the criteria mentioned above. "

For Merge to HDR's appropriate use (according to Adobe's tutorial), you'd need a tripod for the multiple exposures. Still, having a DSLR camera auto-bracket for you in numerous even or odd increments is a useful idea. This is yet another reason pro-sumer grade DSLR's need higher burst shot capacity. The Nikon D100 for RAW image capture gets you no more that 4 photos at a time before the shutter locks up during CF recording. 6x or 8x BKTing in JPEG and not RAW? No, thanks.

Need that Nikon D2X, or better, to get the fullest from Merge to HDR. Otherwise, it's gonna take some time to get the photos you'd want. You'd meanwhile have to hope that conditions don't change (light, wind, skeeters).

Merge to HDR definately helps to have bracketed shots and burst shot capability. I've got the D-Reb and it does auto bracketing. I shot some manual-bracketed shots on a tripod and the clouds moved enough that the merged file didn't look right.

That's why I still love my Singh Ray ND grads :) Hiya James! All moved???

Didn't even think of scene problems with clouds during manual bracketing. That's a good point. You want rapid fire bracketing with 7 shots minimum, I'd think. The central exposure being the odd image. Plus, I would probably even try auto-bracketing with the ND grads just to see what happens.

Yes, we're all moved. Said our goodbyes to SoCal on Friday. It was so nice driving out to an interview this morning on an open road among endless and open fields with the Western Sierra in plain view. Interviewed with a well known camera manufacturer today. They need someone to manage their International Technical Support group.

Some folks are asking why we relocated to Central California near the Sierra. We're getting some puzzled looks. LOL.
