Which one have you guys said is the most detailed, best map of the park?...I think it was said that the National Geographic and NPS one come in a distant 2nd and 3rd to another. Who sells the good one?

I liked the Nat Geo one, it's been updated recently.

I have a park map from 1973. My Nat Geo map is 1999 and it has been updated

I really like the NG one. It's water proof and very durable.

National Geographic TOPO!

the paper version is too big of a scale.

I use the NG TOPO, laminated. No probs with it.

I far prefer my Earthwalk press map of the smokies to the Topo maps.

I prefer the Earthwalk Press map. You can find them at several outdoor stores in Knoxville, such as Blue Ridge Outfitters or River Sports. The location of the trails on the Trails Illustrated map are more accurate, but the contour lines are in meters.

Am i correct in thinking the quads don't have alot of the trails, but prob have the contours/features in the greatest detail?

the quads may not have the newer trails or reroutes but will have the best detail.

I personally think the Earthwalk maps are more accurate, countours are in feet not meters, they are easier for me to read, contain much more place names and details such as minor streams.

I just like the earthwalk map better in every way.

I need to get an earthwalk one. I have the NG, the contours are a pain. I can do the conversion in my head, but why bother?

Well, hell, I said the whole time I had the TI map, but the one I have has contours in feet.

Ok, after reading the posts, I was confused as hell.

Everyone talks about the Trail Illustrated having contours in meters.

I knew my map was in feet. My TI map IS in feet, 50 foot contours.
