Can't you use the Hiker cartridge in the Scout?
I have the First Need, and the Hiker, (and a gravity filter) and prefer the Hiker.
I, personally, don't think I need a purifier here in the states snd don't want to carry the extra weight.

I'm glad to see a bunch of good gear threads on the board today.

I still like the immediate gratification of getting my water immediately through my Pur Hiker. Katadyn continues to back them as well as Pur did.

To those who responded so quickly, Thank you for your advise. I purchased the Katadyne that is compatible with my Scout for use in the US. I might get the First Need for use outside the US. I also found out why it was discontinued. It seems that it did not actually purify water, as claimed. I also learned that the First Need uses a carbon matrix, which is why the water is so clear and tasty. Iy pays to have friends who are engineers. :)
