Water Filters VS Chemicals

“Can't you use the Hiker cartridge in the Scout?
I have the First Need, and the Hiker, (and a gravity filter) and prefer the Hiker.
I, personally, don't think I need a purifier here in the states snd don't want to carry the extra weight.”

“To those who responded so quickly, Thank you for your advise. I purchased the Katadyne that is compatible with my Scout for use in the US. I might get the First Need for use outside the US. I also found out why it was discontinued. It seems that it did not actually purify water, as claimed. I also learned that the First Need uses a carbon matrix, which is why the water is so clear and tasty. Iy pays to have friends who are engineers. :)”
