Here's his picture: ![]() So far I've come up with: McCready (after my favorite PJ guitar player) Loki Raiden Zephyr Linus Napoleon Quatz I think my top 2 are McCready and Zephyr.” 5:48:30 PM 9/16/05 “how about dead..hate those dogs” 5:49:51 PM 9/16/05 “how about don't post your thoughts if they're god damn rude. last edited: 9/16/05 5:52:00 PM” 5:51:40 PM 9/16/05 “wasn't rude, just the truth” 5:53:47 PM 9/16/05 “How about, "Where the hell has ScorchFire been hiding"” 5:53:57 PM 9/16/05 “Looks like Spuds McKenzie. Anyone here remember Spuds?” 5:54:42 PM 9/16/05 “yes! spuds was a bull terrier... a pit bull terrier is a bit different but they're very closely related. scorchfire has been hiding under her rock.” 5:56:34 PM 9/16/05 “How about "El Gato?"” 6:05:18 PM 9/16/05 “I think you need to name it Seth.” 6:05:32 PM 9/16/05 “mmmmmmmm seth.........” 6:06:15 PM 9/16/05 “the cat, Z??? weirdo.” 6:06:30 PM 9/16/05 “Meow!!” 6:08:57 PM 9/16/05 “I'd go with Linus. Nice looking pup. I bet with a lot of loving he'll be a great dog.” 6:10:01 PM 9/16/05 ““the cat, Z??? weirdo.” ScorchFire 7:06:30 PM 9/16/05 ignore this user Thanks I try” 6:14:22 PM 9/16/05 “He does look like Spuds, but he also looks like Petey from the Little Rascals. I like Petey.” 6:15:52 PM 9/16/05 “What a cutie. Be mindful of their nature. They are not a dog for someone that won't be responsible for them. There are things buried in the brains of dogs that either hasn't been bred out of them or we have chosen not to breed out of them. I watched a siberian husky sprint across a field once to kill a small yorkie. It wasn't the dogs fault, he was a nice dog. He had a high prey drive that is just part of the breed. He had no control over what he did. Something triggers the response and a totally different program kicks in. Give a dog all the TLC in the world and you won't overcome this wiring in their head. I am not saying don't adopt, I am just saying don't understimate a breed of dog like this and be a responsible owner. I am sure that's your intention. last edited: 9/16/05 6:20:19 PM” 6:19:58 PM 9/16/05 “Yea, I'd shoot a loose pit bull running towards me on the trail.” 6:33:41 PM 9/16/05 “how about BOSS” 6:35:29 PM 9/16/05 i got a name “how about Just "Ted" he looks like a Ted last edited: 9/16/05 6:36:13 PM” 6:35:40 PM 9/16/05 “how about TORCH” 6:36:19 PM 9/16/05 “how about TARZAN” 6:37:33 PM 9/16/05 “good for you scorchfire! he looks like quite a cutie. i'm glad you went through the rescue agency. our rescue agencies are getting overwhelmed with dogs:unfortunately ontario has just past a law banning anything that resembles a pitbull. and lots of dogs are being destroyed because the owners cannot afford the million dollar insurance required to keep one. pits are my favorite type of dog. if you train them well they will be a great companion. last doggie i had was a pit/bluetickhound X. an absolutely amazing dog, really good on the trail, and great with the kids.” 6:38:00 PM 9/16/05 “how about HE-MAN” 6:38:14 PM 9/16/05 “how about TITAN” 6:39:05 PM 9/16/05 “or how about KITTY” 6:39:43 PM 9/16/05 “I would be proud to share my dogs name, LITTLE DUDE, but now he is just the Dude.” 6:41:34 PM 9/16/05 “Thats one cool looking dog, if you need any help with information, or anything else. I would be happy to offer any. They are wonderfull.” 6:44:08 PM 9/16/05 “thanks for all these suggestions!! i really like "boss" so adorable... am not saying don't adopt, I am just saying don't understimate a breed of dog like this and be a responsible owner. I am sure that's your intention. thanks, pitts, i do appreciate your concern! i have worked at a vet hospital for 4 years and even though i know a lot about pitbulls, i did an extensive amount of research (it also helps that my friend has 2 and also works at a vet hospital so she had a lot of info). i also checked with the home owner's insurance and they have restrictions against pits... unless they have the CGC (canine good citizen) certification... which i already planned on getting. it's an EXTENSIVE obedience training class which i will enroll him in as soon as he turns 6 months. some place require that they are 6 months old, some require 7 months old. thanks again!” 6:51:43 PM 9/16/05 “well after talking with some family members they voted on the name "McCready" but want to call him "Reed" so i think that's what we'll go with.” 6:57:06 PM 9/16/05 “Great that you're adopting. Don't have much time for Pit Bulls myself - be prepared for people avoiding you in the doggie park. Some cities have banned them should you ever wanna move. But I know you already know these things. I'm sure you'll be a great owner. Reed is a great name.” 7:17:29 PM 9/16/05 “What a cutie!!! :) He looks like trouble. ;) I like Linus. I know you'll give him a good home and maybe you can change some minds about the "all pits are bad" attitude. I live with a grayhound/pit mix and she's a spaz, but a really good dog!” 7:21:42 PM 9/16/05 “yesssss,.. such stigmas on pits :'( they are amazing dogs and when trained right, just like any dog, can be the best pet owned.” 7:27:33 PM 9/16/05 “I think they often just attract bad owners. Having said that I did see the results of a sheltie torn apart by one in my local dog park. I tend to avoid them simply as I know my boy doesn't get on with dogs who try to be all alpha on him.” 7:30:52 PM 9/16/05 “I think they often just attract bad owners. exactly.” 7:33:44 PM 9/16/05 “not true, even so called good pit bulls have been known to turn on their owners. A grandmother here had her pit bull turn on her 3 yr old grandson for no reason. The boy had grown up with the dog so it wasn't like he didn't know him. The boy suffered bites on the arms, neck and face. The dog was put down.” 7:39:39 PM 9/16/05 “how about "Jaws of Death" "Jaws" for short when friends come over, you can freak them out by saying "welcome, victim #1. good evening, victim #2" seriously, i think there is a lot of truth about them attracting bad owners. im still not convinced its entirely the owners, however. why else would the bad owners be attracted to them in the first place?” 8:00:49 PM 9/16/05 “but i gotta ask....Quatz? what the hell?” 8:10:25 PM 9/16/05 “Well I guess they were bred to fight.” 8:28:22 PM 9/16/05 “How cute!!!” 8:28:53 PM 9/16/05 “Most people have very negative ideas about pit bulls. What about Chihuahuas? Man, if those dogs were any bigger no one would be safe!! Many years ago I worked for a veterinarian. I got bit a few times by dogs - either chihuahuas or tiny poodles. I never got bit by a big dog.” 8:29:07 PM 9/16/05 “Little dogs are like pirahna fish...once they latch on, they stay latched on. No amount of shaking will get them off until THEY are ready to let go. He's a cute dog, Scortchie. He looks so sad, though. Better bring him home so he can smile.” 8:31:06 PM 9/16/05 “I had a pitbull that was leashed lunge for my 3-1/2 pound chihuahua who was also leashed and she went right back at him. I'm glad I had her on a retractable leash but was holding the line just for a situation like this. Sometimes I just pick her up if the person seems like they can't control their dog and this one was really pulling the girl walking him. Names.....McCready has too many syllables, but it's unique. I hate the typical dog names that reduce your furry companion to a joke. Every chihuahua I met is named Taco, Paco, or some Mexican name. Give me a break! I name my Capri after the island off of Italy. You won't find another dog with that name or find that name on internet lists that give you dog names to choose from. They do have those lists online if you google them. My family says to see how the pet acts and go by that, but it has only made their cats have strange names. Cats are not like dogs. You are walking a dog where people will ask you the dog's name, so you don't want some stupid name. I always wonder what people think of Capri when they say their dog's name is Scooter, because their child named him, because he scoots his butt on the carpet! Hello, he has a full anal sack. Get it expressed (squeezed) and rename the poor dog!!!! Call him "Dangerous", other people will, lol:) Only kidding. He's cute, and looks very strong, even at 5 months. This is a link to an online thesaurus if you think of a word and want to find other similar words: http://www.m-w.com/ People's names are cute too. Please don't name him Bailey, and I forgot the other one that EVERYONE names their dog. A friend has both their dogs named Bailey and the other popular one. I was on hold with calling either the Eukanuba Co. or Science Diet, and one of them gave you a list of popular dog names that were recorded for when you wait for customer service. Don't feed him either of those foods; they suck. If you want recommendations, just let me know. I've done a lot of research on dog foods.” 8:40:38 PM 9/16/05 “How about "Oscar?" Kind of looks like the dog in the original "Breaking Away" movie. Yeah, pit bulls . . gotta be careful.” 8:41:14 PM 9/16/05 “not true, even so called good pit bulls have been known to turn on their owners.Ewker any kind of dog can turn on their owners... you just hear about it more with pit bulls because of their bad rep. if you research them, they were used for fighting because of their strength. because of the way they carrier their strength, people with "fighting" intentions bought them. it's the whole self fulfilling prophecy.” 9:24:39 PM 9/16/05 “Don't forget to have his nads removed. That might help him to be a more gentle boy. Linus is a great name, my #3 son, Linus , will be 15 Oct. 3. He would be honored to share his name with a nice pooch, seriously.” 9:35:02 PM 9/16/05 “his nads are already gone!” 9:39:37 PM 9/16/05 “Good news on the nads!!!” 9:42:39 PM 9/16/05 “true any dog can but the ones that do it the most are pit bulls for what ever reason. read this thread about pit bulls. More discussion on it BTW a few towns in Tenn. have a ban on pit bulls. http://www.thebackpacker.com/trailtalk/thread/30499,-1,1.php last edited: 9/16/05 9:44:31 PM” 9:43:07 PM 9/16/05 “scorch- if you want to avoid some hassle, just call him an amstaff (short for american staffordshire terrier- which is what he looks like) most people don't know the difference anyway.” 9:55:55 PM 9/16/05 “there is no difference, except AKC politics. last edited: 9/16/05 10:03:51 PM” 9:57:55 PM 9/16/05
