Have you seen Giant Sequoia tree's? Do you have photos to share of your experience with them? Sequoias span enormous distances in both space and time. They are majestic creatures incredible in stature.

Today, I packed up the kids, the camera and grabbed my hat to head for Sequoia/Kings Canyon for the day. Took many photos and just enjoyed some hikes here and there.

Towering over head, these Sequoias are prominent among those near Lost Grove.

The trunk of a Sequoia widened in girth to support the incredible weight of its branches and body above.

Merged at the base, these Sequoias are bathed in light.

This is inside the trunk of a hollowed out Sequoia large enough to walk in. The photo was taken with the lense pointing straight up overhead. It was like walking into a capsule that embodied a brief pause in time. It's amazing to run your fingers across the surface of this inner bark.

One word..... wow! I've been there, but to be quite honest, I was stumped as how to take it all in on film. I made a few attempts, but am not really proud of any of them. You pulled it off.

Whisky,

Amazing trees aren't they? The whole area around General Sherman has been remodeled. All the fencing you see in your photos were replaced with new fencing. New signage, and even new trails throughout the area. The route to the Congress trail and the General Sherman tree was rebuilt and is entirely new. Today there were controlled burns in the area around the Congress trees by the forest service. The place is pretty well manicured now.

At the ranger station, came upon a new roughshod guide that outlines all of the Sequoia groves in the park. Even more of the remote ones.

Sequoia Groves of California
.

No trails leading to many of these groves are outlined in this book.

I walked among those giants back in September, 1980, on fairly rainy with wet snow flakes day wearing a new pair of Timberline boots that were rough on the feet.

The National Geographic "Adventure" magazine from Feb.2004 has a great article on photographing the Sequoia. A treelovers centerfold composite photo inside.

amazing! i feel like a midget just looking at those pics.
it's hard to believe that nature can grow something so big. we have very old trees here --over 1000yrs!-- but they are runts growing up in the niagara escarpment(some of the really old ones are only a few metres tall) i can't imagine what the roots on one of those big ones must be like!

idiot question: are there young sequoias growing and are they protected also?
