Gem,

Yes, the 2nd building from the left (the church with the stained glass and shrubs in front.)

It was a very cool project. I'm hoping that our group decides to make it into an actual print...

2 other group particpated and tackled "landscapes" and "Flowers". :-)

It was a blast. Each group had 10 painters and I think it took us 6-8 months before it was finally finished... (due to having to send it overseas, etc.)

That’s an interesting idea Phil. It might be best to keep the two project ideas separate though. I think simplicity is needed in order to keep the cameras moving. Of course the one thought going through my mind when you were suggesting group competition is, “Oh sure that’s easy for you to say. You hike with Wind Walker!” LOL! That would be an interesting project.

“I'm willing to start it all off... :) If nobody else has volunteered!”

You got it my man! I am going to split the list up by regions (west, south-east and noth/north-east) and e mail the list to you and I think Dayhiker who wants to start the south-east camera. And I will get the north-north-east camera going. I was going to go to the post office and get a bunch of the lables and pre address them and send them along with the camera to make it easier for the next person.

I'm taking my picture this weekend at Red River Gorge and will get the lists sent out Monday. I will probably go ahead and send out my camera as soon as possible but I don't think there's going to be a rush. I think Dayhiker was going to take his picture on his Footballapalooza trip in Oct.

I agree with the original concept.

The cool thing about using the disposable is that the playing field has been leveled... :-)

I have to check but I may already have a new disposable camera at home (for "emergency use" when on a trip.) I remember seeing some black & white photos by some professional artist who used disposable cameras-- it's all about the composition... you would have never thought the photos were done with a point and shoot disposable!

One guy even went as far as disassembling his camera and re-loading it with film for an entire series of photos.... Here's an article about one photographer:

http://home.online.no/~gjon/stretch.htm

Here's an interesting article about a guy who suggests using a cheap camera vs. the disposable.... (cost-wise, it might be cheaper for the whole project, and then whomeever finishes the roll could mail the film or get it developed... :-)

http://www.camerahacker.com/Disposable_Camera/Cheap_Alternatives.html

Food for thought. It may be a lot more environmentally friendly!

There is a really super cheap-ass Chinese camera that is plastic and so cheap ya have to ductape the back of it to keep light from leaking in through the cracks. It’s almost a toy camera. People use them and post them to see how good a picture they can capture with the camera. I’ve seen some amazing pics taken with it. I wish I could remember the name of the camera. I think it started with a P. Some people also do the same thing with a junk digital camera too. It was one of the first digis that hooked to your computer and held like 4 pics.

I thnk you are talking about the "Holga camera"... here's a link about it:

http://www.polaroid.com/media/com/pdfs/products_internal/PR032_holga_brochure_4_page_7cab.pdf

YOu can put a polaroid back on the camera and make really cool pictures (from what I've read.)

That's the one! Awesome looking photos! There is an old toy video camera made by Matell or one of those big ones that people use to make short films with and they have an annual film festivle too with judging.

That's interesting-- I haven't heard about that one.

I have a brownie camera, but haven't yet developed the film from it. IT should be quite interesting... I also have a couple of REALLY OLD Kodak bellows cameras, that are cool-- but unfortunately they don't have a conventional film size, and I haven't tried to modify it yet to fit "regular" film... It would be cool to see what could be done with those types of film...

When I was a kid, the Detroit News had a weekly contest called "Cappy Dick" (it was puzzles and drawing contests, etc.) From that, I got a little camera, where you could wind the film in daylight (you had to look for the number in the little red window)--and it had that paper wrapper on the film roll. Would be cool if I could find it again, but it probably got sold at a garage sale years ago....

I have some film in the brownie from a few years ago... every so often, I take it out and snap a photo... Will be interesting to see what I have once I get around to developing it! Unfortunately, it's hard to find a place that can process that type of film these days...

Has the ball been dropped on this already?!?!? A couple folks even offering to buy the camera, and no word from those starting the project?? ;) Tell ya what: I'm gonna buy one tomorrow on my way out for my dayhike in Wet Meadows (rain expected, so REALLY Wet Meadows!), and we'll go from there. I'll post again when I get my shot!

The laws of entropy already taking effect. Nigal, care to chime in here before EVERYONE runs out and buys a camera and then wonders who to send it to? For those of you who didn't read the whole thread, Nigal is collecting addresses, splitting up the list geographically, and organizing the purchase of cameras by volunteers in different regions. If you have questions as to the progression of this project, why don't you email him, or perhaps we could wait for him to post an update here. I don't think anyone has dropped the ball. My name should be the last one on each list, with each camera coming to me for processing, digitizing, and uploading to a web gallery.

Hobbit's right, no one has dropped the ball....if memory serves (and I believe it's earlier in this thread) Nigal is at Red River Gorge this weekend where he is taking the first pic with one of the cameras and therefore cannot immediately respond. I'm sure that, come Monday, Nigal will have an update for everyone.

I’m getting the list divided up tomorrow and will send Wanderingphotog his list for the west. I was planning on starting the Midwest-east coast camera unless someone else is bursting at the seems to get it started themselves. I think Dayhiker was starting the south-east camera.

Don’t worry guys, all will be started tomorrow.

I don't think it's that big a deal whether or not the cameras are exactly the same. Least the first time around, the purpose was to show what you could do without the fancy stuff.

So show what you can do with what you're given. Simple 'nuf.

OK, after much list making and much checking and double checking I think we have it sorted out. Shew! This is tentative at best as I don’t have confirmation from all as to who’s starting them yet. I tried to make the shipping as short as possible from one place to another. If the west coast camera yo-yos up and down California I’d welcome the proper order to keep it in a straight line. If you signed up and you are NOT on the list it doesn’t mean I don’t love you. It means a mistake was made somewhere along the way (probably mine), so just drop me a mail in the next two days and we’ll get it fixed.
