It was a very cool project. I'm hoping that our group decides to make it into an actual print... 2 other group particpated and tackled "landscapes" and "Flowers". :-) It was a blast. Each group had 10 painters and I think it took us 6-8 months before it was finally finished... (due to having to send it overseas, etc.)” 8:40:37 AM 9/21/05 “That’s an interesting idea Phil. It might be best to keep the two project ideas separate though. I think simplicity is needed in order to keep the cameras moving. Of course the one thought going through my mind when you were suggesting group competition is, “Oh sure that’s easy for you to say. You hike with Wind Walker!” LOL! That would be an interesting project.” 8:43:37 AM 9/21/05 ““I'm willing to start it all off... :) If nobody else has volunteered!” You got it my man! I am going to split the list up by regions (west, south-east and noth/north-east) and e mail the list to you and I think Dayhiker who wants to start the south-east camera. And I will get the north-north-east camera going. I was going to go to the post office and get a bunch of the lables and pre address them and send them along with the camera to make it easier for the next person. I'm taking my picture this weekend at Red River Gorge and will get the lists sent out Monday. I will probably go ahead and send out my camera as soon as possible but I don't think there's going to be a rush. I think Dayhiker was going to take his picture on his Footballapalooza trip in Oct.” 8:48:18 AM 9/21/05 “I agree with the original concept. The cool thing about using the disposable is that the playing field has been leveled... :-) I have to check but I may already have a new disposable camera at home (for "emergency use" when on a trip.) I remember seeing some black & white photos by some professional artist who used disposable cameras-- it's all about the composition... you would have never thought the photos were done with a point and shoot disposable! One guy even went as far as disassembling his camera and re-loading it with film for an entire series of photos.... Here's an article about one photographer: http://home.online.no/~gjon/stretch.htm Here's an interesting article about a guy who suggests using a cheap camera vs. the disposable.... (cost-wise, it might be cheaper for the whole project, and then whomeever finishes the roll could mail the film or get it developed... :-) http://www.camerahacker.com/Disposable_Camera/Cheap_Alternatives.html Food for thought. It may be a lot more environmentally friendly!” 8:57:56 AM 9/21/05 “Check this out! This is quite interesting: http://phototag.org/ Seems like the "Where's George" kind of concept... last edited: 9/21/05 9:03:29 AM” 9:01:40 AM 9/21/05 “There is a really super cheap-ass Chinese camera that is plastic and so cheap ya have to ductape the back of it to keep light from leaking in through the cracks. It’s almost a toy camera. People use them and post them to see how good a picture they can capture with the camera. I’ve seen some amazing pics taken with it. I wish I could remember the name of the camera. I think it started with a P. Some people also do the same thing with a junk digital camera too. It was one of the first digis that hooked to your computer and held like 4 pics.” 9:12:31 AM 9/21/05 “I volunteer to be first on the West Coast. California that is. Black gold, swimming pools and movie stars... oh wait, were talking about Mountains and Oceans and bears oh my...right? LOL I'm ready if you are.” 10:01:02 AM 9/21/05 “My offer to keep the camera for 3-4 months still stands.” 10:07:21 AM 9/21/05 “I thnk you are talking about the "Holga camera"... here's a link about it: http://www.polaroid.com/media/com/pdfs/products_internal/PR032_holga_brochure_4_page_7cab.pdf YOu can put a polaroid back on the camera and make really cool pictures (from what I've read.)” 11:19:08 AM 9/21/05 “That's the one! Awesome looking photos! There is an old toy video camera made by Matell or one of those big ones that people use to make short films with and they have an annual film festivle too with judging.” 11:30:09 AM 9/21/05 “That's interesting-- I haven't heard about that one. I have a brownie camera, but haven't yet developed the film from it. IT should be quite interesting... I also have a couple of REALLY OLD Kodak bellows cameras, that are cool-- but unfortunately they don't have a conventional film size, and I haven't tried to modify it yet to fit "regular" film... It would be cool to see what could be done with those types of film... When I was a kid, the Detroit News had a weekly contest called "Cappy Dick" (it was puzzles and drawing contests, etc.) From that, I got a little camera, where you could wind the film in daylight (you had to look for the number in the little red window)--and it had that paper wrapper on the film roll. Would be cool if I could find it again, but it probably got sold at a garage sale years ago.... I have some film in the brownie from a few years ago... every so often, I take it out and snap a photo... Will be interesting to see what I have once I get around to developing it! Unfortunately, it's hard to find a place that can process that type of film these days...” 11:37:29 AM 9/21/05 “Well, my idea didn't seem to pass muster. That's OK. It will be interesting to see how it goes this time compared to last time.” 1:01:27 PM 9/21/05 “Phil, I don't see why you couldn't do just as you suggest with any TT trip you participate in. Just pick up a disposable and take it along, just to see how it goes.” 3:35:24 PM 9/21/05 “Phil, I liked your idea. Perhaps I'll pick up a disposable for the next group outing. They are cheap enough.” 7:25:39 PM 9/21/05 “I guess I'm late to join in. Been a little busy on the Gauley River in WV lately. I'm not sure what's going on, but it sounds like fun. Please count me in. What kind of shots? What are the rules? Anything goes?” 11:54:59 PM 9/21/05 “Have the cameras been sent out yet?? :) I'm willing to buy the first camera to start it all off if it will help!! :)” 2:30:26 AM 9/22/05 “one picture only. hiking related. that's all i know. send nigal your postal addy. but things may have changed...dunn know last edited: 9/22/05 6:26:00 AM” 6:19:04 AM 9/22/05 “I have a camera I could start off... Hiking related... That may be tough for me in the next few weeks.... but we'll see! :-)” 8:38:29 AM 9/22/05 “Isn't it hiking or nature-related?” 11:38:11 AM 9/22/05 “Hiking related...I can't actually hike right now, so I'll have to improvise. I'm sure that will be okay with everybody. :) BTW, there is a TT group camping trip out west next weekend...” 11:44:27 AM 9/22/05 “Ruby, You better not steal my idea.” 11:46:00 AM 9/22/05 “Huh? What idea?” 11:51:46 AM 9/22/05 “I'm in too.....send you mail Nigal...this is cool!” 11:54:35 AM 9/22/05 “I'm heading out this weekend. I could pick up a disposable camera on my way. Was there any preference as to the kind? Or just any old disposable will do? Also, who do I send it to next when I get back?” 7:31:50 PM 9/23/05 “Has the ball been dropped on this already?!?!? A couple folks even offering to buy the camera, and no word from those starting the project?? ;) Tell ya what: I'm gonna buy one tomorrow on my way out for my dayhike in Wet Meadows (rain expected, so REALLY Wet Meadows!), and we'll go from there. I'll post again when I get my shot!” 8:08:52 PM 9/23/05 nigal “Oct 1 we head to Prague and Krakow, I buy a camera, shoot my shot, return Oct 11 and mail the camera and one buck to whomever you delegate. Sound aiight, I'll do it?” 5:57:06 PM 9/24/05 “Just picked up a camera; will take my shot in the coming days. Just need to know who to send it to. :)” 6:03:59 PM 9/24/05 “The laws of entropy already taking effect. Nigal, care to chime in here before EVERYONE runs out and buys a camera and then wonders who to send it to? For those of you who didn't read the whole thread, Nigal is collecting addresses, splitting up the list geographically, and organizing the purchase of cameras by volunteers in different regions. If you have questions as to the progression of this project, why don't you email him, or perhaps we could wait for him to post an update here. I don't think anyone has dropped the ball. My name should be the last one on each list, with each camera coming to me for processing, digitizing, and uploading to a web gallery.” 6:50:09 PM 9/24/05 “Hobbit's right, no one has dropped the ball....if memory serves (and I believe it's earlier in this thread) Nigal is at Red River Gorge this weekend where he is taking the first pic with one of the cameras and therefore cannot immediately respond. I'm sure that, come Monday, Nigal will have an update for everyone.” 6:54:35 PM 9/24/05 “It seems to me that all the cameras need to be the same. Has a camera model been identified as the one that everyone will use? I haven't noticed. Hobbit: The laws of entropy are in full force on TT!!!” 9:46:21 PM 9/24/05 “you guys are making this more complicated then it is. remember this is suppose to be fun. and who cares how long it will take! sort of fun to see one picture you took a year ago.” 10:58:13 PM 9/24/05 “"Laws of entropy?" What the heck, it's a camera-sharing project!! :) I bought a camera, will take a picture, and send the camera to someone else! What the hell?? ;) Give me a farkin' address, and let's get going here!! :) Some of y'all just post to read your own typing, dontcha? ;) last edited: 9/25/05 2:48:43 AM” 2:48:15 AM 9/25/05 “Give me a farkin' address, and let's get going here!! :) Some of y'all just post to read your own typing, dontcha? ;) WanderingPhotog 2:48:15 AM 9/25/05 dang newbies come on here and think they own the place” 10:44:59 AM 9/25/05 “hobbit and nigal, thanks for putting this together. I will wait patiently to find out when to expect a camera. I agree w/ Phil - makes sense to use the same brand/speed camera.” 11:16:04 AM 9/25/05 “naked ape <-----searching thru a Webster's to see WTF "Laws of Entropy" are!” 5:36:19 PM 9/25/05 “Don’t come down on Wanderingphotog too much guys. I think he missed my post when I responded to him… “I'm willing to start it all off... :) If nobody else has volunteered!” “You got it my man! I was planning on starting the Midwest-east coast camera unless someone else is bursting at the seems to get it started themselves. I think Dayhiker was starting the south-east camera. Don’t worry guys, all will be started tomorrow.” 7:43:04 PM 9/25/05 Thanks, Nigal... “... I'm just anxious to take part! :) And Ewker, 8:06:48 PM 9/25/05 “I don't think it's that big a deal whether or not the cameras are exactly the same. Least the first time around, the purpose was to show what you could do without the fancy stuff. So show what you can do with what you're given. Simple 'nuf.” 8:12:31 PM 9/25/05 “Can't Wait!!! Any more updates???” 4:31:58 PM 9/26/05 “the lists will be out first thing in the AM.” 4:36:16 PM 9/26/05 “List? I'm leaving for my trip Thursday morning!” 4:55:06 PM 9/26/05 “holy cow...there's too many chiefs and not enough indians...everyone needs to just chill and let nigal and hobbit take care of everything...i guess everyone's just really anxious to get that brand new Jeep Wrangler that the taker of the best picture will win ;)” 4:56:41 PM 9/26/05 “OK, after much list making and much checking and double checking I think we have it sorted out. Shew! This is tentative at best as I don’t have confirmation from all as to who’s starting them yet. I tried to make the shipping as short as possible from one place to another. If the west coast camera yo-yos up and down California I’d welcome the proper order to keep it in a straight line. If you signed up and you are NOT on the list it doesn’t mean I don’t love you. It means a mistake was made somewhere along the way (probably mine), so just drop me a mail in the next two days and we’ll get it fixed. If they can find them there, sure, that's fine. Pinky, I'm sorry dear about the mistake on your name. And yes your hubby can join too. Do you know his address? LOL!” 11:13:55 AM 9/27/05 “No nuddy shots of the 2 of you!” 11:15:03 AM 9/27/05 “ok WK, this is our chance to prove there's more than slack jawed yokels and corn in indiana...wow, we've got our work cut out for us LOL” 11:28:38 AM 9/27/05 “I already have my shot!” 11:32:52 AM 9/27/05 Jump to Page << prev
