Went hiking today....
Went out with friends Marzsit, Catzia and my son Ford..we met a new guy, a friend of Cat's named Toby. He was a nice guy..I am SURE Marzsit's and mine's endless stream of chatter drove him insane ;-)
We met up near Snoqualmie Pass, off of I-90 to do the Denny Creek Trail up to Melakwa Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
I had done this trail in 2003, but had turned around due to deep water...well, lets just say this years drought is still holding on just fine and dandy here in Western WA.....
At about 2 miles in Ford broke out in his song and dance number for us in front of Keewulee Falls....

On the trail went up and up till we passed thru the forested Hemlock Pass, and eventually poppped up to the main Melakwa Lake (Chinook jargon for mosquito btw......) where what did my eyes find?

So I followed that sweet sign, to find another sweet sign!

And ooh, what a sweet prize!

Oh wait..yeah, back to the lake.....but man, the climb up to that privy-you'd be hating it if you had the chacha's at midnight and needed to get there ;-)

We hiked around the main lake and as we crossed the 2cnd inlet stream we had a gorgeous view of Upper Melakwa Lake. We decided to have lunch here-it had few people near, it was quiet-and full of big warm rocks to sit on.

We had our lunch under Chair and Bryant Peaks and watched the butterflies doing thier thing.

Ford doing his thing and munching down on some very tasty freezerbag cookin' mom style ;-)

Oh yeah..maybe I should include a picture of the main lake?

A nice 9 1/2 miles or so, great weather and we got out just before dark ;-)

sigh...too bad you never get to see anything cool on your hikes but you still insist that we look at your pictures so, because I am a kind person, I do so;)

OK OK, now to something important...what kind of zip lock bags do you use? I've found the "Ziplock" brand to leak, even when properly sealed...I often stored food in them when car-camping and found them full of water when the block of ice in the cooler melted..so, I've started using "Glad" brand zip-locks because they don't leak...I figure if water can get in then water can get out and I'm not commiting my dinner to a leaky bag...

JimmyC would appreciate that outhouse..was there a view?

Lol..yes there was a view of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness ;-)
It was just the steepest trail to a privy I have ever been on!!
As for the bags, I use either Glad ones (the greenish blueish ones) or my favorite are these ones that Hoosierdaddy found for me at a dollar store on the Kitsap Pennisula in WA.
They have the cool pleated bottom. For $1 a box I haven't had a leaker yet! He just scored me a big buy of them..I just gots to get over to his house soon ;-)
Personally I find it best if you add the water slowly-and don't hold the bag while doing it in the air (in other words, have the bag on something solid).
That and I don't ever reuse :-)

Nice pictures of the lake. I was there many years ago, without a camera.
