I hope we have more snow this year and more cold Ongaa Bongaa Snow snow snow!!!

Marko Yam can just ride on your shoulders.

I think we need to go farther north, how up around Tug hill? Supposed to be incredible amounts of snow up there.

Note to participants bring more booze and stash some of it for night number 2.

Hey I've never been there sounds good to me. Does it have big mtns, a stream, river or lake, and a lean to? If so count me in.

sewards sound great to me, 5+/- mile flat skiable trail in, then 4 different highpeaks to climb. a couple different lean-to choices.

but what about the road zac? is that road doable in feb?

I know there is a gate on the road part of the way in and I think it adds a mile or so to the hike in to the lean-tos. I have a map at home that marks were the gate is. I'll have to take a look at it some time tonight.

Here’s another idea.
Camp on Lake Placid (the actual lake). There are two lean-tos on Moose Island in the middle of the lake. Near by mountains are, Whiteface, McKenzie, and Moose Mountains. The one thing that could be a problem is if snowmobile use is permitted on the lake, which I’m not sure of. http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4909333.00014188&e=583135.000000232&datum=nad83

i like the seward idea much better if the road is doable. way more secluded.

Hey Sacco, do you know of any "easy" ways to hike into the West Canada Lake Wilderness in the winter? There is a lot of cool stuff in there, but I can't think of any place where you can get to a lean-to in there that is within 4 to 5 miles from the trailhead.
lumberzac

I'm hip on f'in' the snowmobiles, sacco!

Besides that, it could get kinda windy out on a big lake.

zacco, get busy them maps, boy!!

Yam on my shoulders, huh?
How's about we strap her into Lt's sled??

not unless there's some sneaky way i don't know about.

most of the access is all off that on long dirt road from cedar river flow to limekiln - which is closed all winter.
from the south it's a serious hike from piseco, and from the east that sucker brook trail is a #&%!$ on the nicest fall day.

I checked out my maps last night. It's about 5miles to the Ward Brook shelter (the Blueberry Pond shelter is .7 miles closer) from the summer trailhead. The winter gate adds 3 to 4 miles to that.

ok, OK...I am here! Man, you guys are impatient! I realize that time is ticking away, with only 5 months to plan this thing. (I am such a procrastinator, my apologies.)

You'd think after FIVE previous FYAO's, there would be some sense of security that it WILL happen. :p

Prezzies weekend is the tradition and it has always been a public trip...last year's attendance was incredible! Good ideas on location so far.
*The norm is to select a trail that will accommodate skis and/or sleds and snowshoes.
*basecamp/partyhouse location is ideally a leanto, with a tent-city sprawl around it
*some interesting peaks to dayhike-explore

Keep the ideas coming. The final selection is usually not until Dec/Jan, but this gives lots of time for pre-hike exploratory missions!

I know this is kinda unconventional, but how about Lake Colden via Upper Works and Calamity Brook/Flowed Lands? Can you get to Upper Works with the car in the winter? It's about 6 miles from Trail Head to leantos, relatively flat boulevard-type trail (should be cake for the sleds) and right at the doorstep of the McIntyres, Colden, Cliff, and the Marcy Group. And as an added bonus, the otherwise-problem-causing bears should be fast asleep :)

Do the Eastern High Peaks allow fires during the winter with all the snow? What do all y'all think?
