Granite Gear: Can't believe I stuffed it !!

I got a Granite Gear medium size "Air-Line MD Air Compressor" stuff sack at Cabela's Sunday.

Figured I'd see if I just might be able to stuff my HUGE, HEAVY -20 Kelty down bag in it. (like, RIGHT?!?!?! lol)

Well, holy sheeyat, I DID IT!! Perhaps it's not good for that lightweight stuff-then-compress sack, but it's in there. And while still heavy, it's as small as I've ever seen that sleeping bag.

The bag weighs around 4-4.5 pounds (no, NOT ultralight, then again, it was CHEAP)

I am impressed. I figured I'd need a large compression bag, and even then didn't know if the bag would fit.

Those things rock. I use them for all my clothes that I pack in the winter. The clothes take up the most space in my pack next to my down sleeping bag (which actually packs down pretty small). The compression sack lets me carry extra layers and dry clothes in case I get too wet and yet not take up tons of pack space. I also know people that pack their tents in the things, but I have only tried this (it works) but an unsure what the long-term effects are on a tent so I don't bother.

COOLNESS
I'll tell ya lizs I LOVE COMPRESSION SACKS! It is amazing how much one can put into it and how small you can get it!

Got your big bag into the compression sac ?
That's great. They are TOO good to believe.

Yup, my tent (when I carry one) and sleeping bags travel compressed.

I may have to revisit the tent in the compression sack thing. Right now my favorite tent (SD Light Year CD) is pretty small and I don't sweat it, but I know I could get it smaller. I read somewhere that it's actually better to crumple up your tent rather than fold it because folding it (specifically in the same places over and over) makes creases in the fabric over time. I don't know if I buy that however.

I pretty much "crumple" all tents these days. However, I don't have them in compression sacks yet.

Over the weekend I managed to have a stake poke through my Henry Shires Tarptent bag in two spots. :-( Don't know that's it really anything worth "fixing," however. Small holes

Actually most of my trips I just bring my Bibler bivy. That I just crumple into the stuff sack. Seems pointless to fold it. I love my bivy bag!

I tried to put myself in one of these things to see if I could compress myself. It is hard to get that last strap tight, then get your arm back in.
