“Ok has anyone tried wearing a pack on a mountain bike? My pack fits close and only weighs about 30 lbs. Would that still throw balance off too much.” 9:57:58 AM 9/22/05 “I would think that it might be difficult, if you have to come to a sudden stop, or make a quick turn.... but I could be wrong...” 10:02:55 AM 9/22/05 “Funny...GreenMonkee & I had a similar conversation the other day. I wondered about the balance thing as well ~ plus the way you sit on the bike...I would think the packweight would feel heavier. Thinking about being on the trail, when I sit...I want to lean against my pack. Not sit and bend forward.” 10:07:08 AM 9/22/05 “if you're on flat land it would be ok. But jumping a log or rock might be a problem. Of course in Indiana all you have to look out for is cornfields ;) last edited: 9/22/05 10:09:04 AM” 10:08:11 AM 9/22/05 “Ok thats it Ewker, i'm taking you to the Knobstone trail!” 10:12:54 AM 9/22/05 “I tried wearing a loaded pack on a bike one time with about 20 pounds or a tad more. I only went about 20 miles and got one of the worst pains in my lower back. For me a camelbak with water and snacks, yes. Anything more than that and I use panniers. It's much more comfortable, cooler on your back and safer too.” 11:44:17 AM 9/22/05 “You're probably right-- the leaning over that you do on the bike would probably cause back strain....” 12:44:58 PM 9/22/05 “I use dto commute to class on my mountain bike... on short jaunts my backpack wasn't too bad, but it was probably 10lbs max. I m not sure about 30. That seems awfully uncomfortable and I'd had to navigate a steep downhill like that. That's what panniers are for.” 1:16:56 PM 9/22/05
