“This morning Catzia, Marzsit, Ford and me headed up to the Sunrise area at Mt. Rainier-which is my favorite front country area of Mt. Rainier NP. We had blue skies, no clouds and yeah, it was SO freaking cold up at 6400 ft in the parking lot... Dressed in multitudes of clothes...and a hot cup of tea in hand we took off.... ![]() Our route was the fun loop of following the Sourdough Ridge to Frozen Lake, and jumping onto the trail to Burroughs Mt...as you cross onto Burroughs #1 (The Burroughs are a wide plateau in front of Rainier, and there 3 summits along the way.) The view you get from #1: ![]() Then it is up and up to Burroughs #2....did I mention it was even more freaky cold up here? YiYi!! Of course it was well in the 7,000's up there ;-) Burroughs #2 view: ![]() We left with dust devils picking up all around us-and an awesome view of Grand Park the color of wheat :-)We could see Mt. Baker, Glacier Peak, Mt. Stuart, Mt. Adams...and all the Southern North Cascade peaks :-) We headed down the back of Burroughs, and wandered thru the alpine tundra, listening to the headwaters of the White River coming out of the Emmons Glacier. Stood and looked wistfully at the Inter Glacier-and how far it has receded in the past 2 years. Looked down at Glacier Basin below us, and how much real estate has opened up above it. ![]() Emmons Glacier is the big one on the left, The Wedge is the earth between and the Inter Glacier is on the right. We headed down and eventually hooked onto the Wonderland Trail-and had a lazy lunch at Shadow Lake...then headed home on the Wonderland.... Better than Wind Walkers.” 9:41:59 PM 9/24/05 “great pics sarbar1! Thanks a bunch. I used to be able to see Ranier from my window (on a clear day of course).” 7:43:43 AM 9/25/05 “Beautiful area!” 10:18:58 AM 9/25/05 “sigh...another week-end of gorgeous mountain pictures from Sarbar...same thing week after week after week..every damn week-end up she goes someplace totally awesome and rubs it in my nose...it's crushingly cruel....” 12:22:55 PM 9/25/05 “Sarbar, makes me wish I could go hiking while in Seattle.” 2:52:44 PM 9/25/05 “NICE! Thanks yo bear!” 4:15:18 PM 9/25/05 “Wannabp....see hiking and a picnic is better than a smelly bar ;-) lol!!” 8:29:03 PM 9/25/05 “Wow... That looks awesome! One of these days, Thinkbubelz and I will hopefully get to do some similar kind of hiking in the mountains!” 10:15:39 PM 9/25/05
