Why I like my job thread

“I thought I would start this thread so I could share to you all about the good things at work and maybe you can add some too!



a few weeks ago i picked up a 4 month old kitten. I was told by the woman that found her that children had pulled her tail off and was kicking her
I rescued her and I really thought
that we would have to put her down.
to my surprise I saw
her the next day. I was so mad at the thought that kids did this.
I spoke to the vet and he said that she was attacked by a dog.

well i took a liking to her big time!!
i would visit her in the morning and then at the end of my shift. I named her shorty!

yesterday I went to my first adoption event.
I have never cried so much from being so happy. we started with 26 puppies and kittens and older dogs and older cats.
we went home with only 5.

and I am so happy to report.

SHORTY FOUND A HOME!!

to see this sweet thing at deaths door then find a home filled me with pure happiness!!

“I like my job because... I get free rent, and get to live in a cabin in the woods on the lake shore. I have a 10 minute commute to work walking and my biggest traffic jam is a family of squirrels, I get to work with kids and make a difference in their lives - sometimes adults. I get to play games, climb into the air on high ropes courses, I get paid well, I get to eat for free, I get paid to go on canoe trips in the BWCA, I don't think I could find a better job out there.”

“I work on Multiplexers (Muxes) and Muxes are cool. I'm like the Maytag repairman for Muxes : ).”

“I don't (necessarily) have to go to work on Monday. I don't (necessarily) have the weekends off, unless I need to go backpacking. I don't have to get up early anymore. My work challenges me and some days I can please 3 women (how many of you can say that?)!”

“Glad to hear the cat made it and got a home. I couldnt handle being around animals all, especially needy hurt ones. I would own em all.

I like my job because I work alone and I dont have a boss who babysits. He treats me with respect and values what I do and how I do it.”

“mapes, congrats :) our shelter pup is learning but he has been here only a week. Soon he gets to go to doggy classes and learn how to behave around other dogs (he is dog agressive except around sasha, but then no dog could be agressive with sasha lol)

I love my job because I am boss of the afternoon shift...which only includes me and one other person and usually just me ;P

I can call of with no problems if I have a hankering for the trail and I get 4-5 weeks vacation a year!!

My job is pretty damn cool. I get to help people who can't move well, are stressed, sore, and cranky feel great! It's the best thing ever to have someone sit up and say "oh my goodness, my neck feels so much better! I can't believe it, blah blah blah...". Now, if only I could get paid regularly for it!!

sounds like your job really suits you, Maple...i'm glad you found it! the first dog i ever picked out was from a shelter, and i'd never pay someone for a pet...any i get will always be from a shelter or otherwise homeless. hopefully within the next year or so i'll be able to get a dog.”

I was called to an apartment where the people moved out but left the snake and a HUGE mess.
at first the super could not get the door open. she said the lady jammed it on purpose.

well I can not leave the animal in there so...

I kicked the door in (oh man I felt like cops LOL)

well we got in and there in a small tank was a HUGE white snake.
sorry guys but i left it in the tank and put it in my truck. I just prayed that the glass would not break while inroute to the shelter.

so i carried the thing in the tank. hey im a chicken when it comes to snakes. as geo can tell you!!”

took a huge pay cut. i have to get a second job to make ends meet. but to me it is all worth it!”

“Why do I like my job? Because it's there! I'm so thankful for what I do have. I could be living in the Astro Dome for crying out loud.”

“Despite the fact that I have to work this Saturday, I have to say my job is pretty cool. This Saturday I’ll be in the field taking conditions assessments of an iron blast furnace built in the 1850’s. The site sits on a dirt road in the middle of the wilderness with the closest town over 10 miles away. Because I have to scale the sides of the 50’ tall stone furnace to get accurate conditions of the masonry, I’ll be getting a lesson in rock climbing from a guide that literally write the book on rock climbing in the Adirondacks. Hopefully the weather will be nice this weekend.”

“I just got back from a 6 day conference at Disney World. My job rocks, even with the long hours. The kids loved Disney.”

“i love my job cause it finally picked up!!! i've been in a transition from one job to another in the same company...for about 2 months i didn't have anything to do from the old job and not much from the new one

i issue annuities and help agents with any problems and now our applications are pouring in!!!

“Don't like my job much. Good money, benefits & time-off for rural country. Easy transfers & shift changes. Too many changes of boss's. As soon as you get some & get a good working relationship, they change and you have to start all over. You go from some smart guys to morons all the time. 20 times that & you give up.”

“I love my job because if I have a bad day with the boss, I have nobody else to blame except me. I get to decide when I work (although just starting this business, it's been between 50-60 hours a week). Honestly, most of it doesn't seem like work to me. I love solving problems for clients and making their networks and systems more secure. I especially like that they pay me good money for doing what I do. People pay me for doing something that I love to do.”

“I like my job because I just started in a new dept. Less hours, more money (much more), & very little stress. The guys I work with also believe in working hard and not goofing off. Everyone has a great sence of humor. There is only 4 of us in the dept. 2 of us kayak together and I also play music with one of those dudes.”

“I love teaching. I get to work with college students. The collegial atmosphere is very nice at my school. I have my own office in a new building.

Oh, yes. Good pay, four-day work week and 19 weeks paid vacation helps.

And in the theme of things, our two cats were actually abandoned kittens rescued from on campus. Got them from the Campus Police Department.”

well i am sooooo happy to say that little guy is up for adpotion. he is doing great!! purring and really coming around. now thats why i love my job!

i named it Samantha (after my daughter) not knowing if it was a amle of female. but then found out it was a boy so they named him sammy. very sweet!”

“I love my work, too. I am my own boss and can work whatever hours I want and take as much time off as I want. (I think I have had 5 or 6 weeks off already this year.) As a single mom I can comfortably support myself and my two sons. Hopefully by next summer I will be buying a home all by myself. (When that happens, when any of you are in the Chicago-land area, my house will be open to you.)

Today I was supposed to go on a job that would have grossed not much, less than $100. But I got an emergency call last night at 11:30 p.m. asking me if I could help them out and do a different, much bigger, much harder, and much much much more lucrative job. I took it on, but barely slept all night stressing over it. This particular type of job requires me to be nearly perfect and then turn over all that I have done to the attorneys immediately instead of the usual two weeks to edit. I have never done this kind of job before because of the difficulty of it. Now tonight I am enjoying a generous glass of wine because I pulled off the job with flying colors. Sometimes it feels good to pat yourself on the back.”

“I filed a patent application last week. Woohoo! Actually... the lawyers did...”

“Well it's kinda hard to explain but there is an electromagnet, a couple of backwards curved impellors, some relays and thermostats... I basically used an electromagnet to seal a vent that had to be water tight.”

“ok last night was fun.
I got a call to go to meet with a heath inspector at a chinese restaurant in Brooklyn.
When I got there I noticed people just sitting around looking glum.
I introduced myself to the woman and she explained to me why I was called.
while looking into the freezer she found 8 frogs still alive. that is a no no in the health book. pigions too but they are ok to have.
so i gathered up the frogs and put them into a box.
the best part was while i was there people would come in (it was dinner time) and look at me and turn right around and leave. you should have seen the looks i got when i was leaving with the box that says LIVE ANIMALS and the way people were going out of there way so I could pass. man that was very funny!!”
