really? i love sandler. hes one of my "if hes in it, ill probably see it". but thats just my opinion. same with don cheadle. i adore him.
although, on another note, while im breaking "the rules", i freakin loved transformers!!! :D

i generally dont base my decision to see or not see a movie based on an actor, but sandler is an exception. not because i think hes a bad actor (he can be a good actor in the right movie), but because i think he picks lousy movies, or the studio gets a hack writer to build a movie around one of his schticks

if i base my decision on anyone related to the film, itll be the director.

after LOTR, i'll watch anything by peter jackson. anything by kubrick, and anything by the ultimate popcorn director, steven spielberg

i respect that explanation.

i generally dont base my movie watching around actors either. actually i generally base my movie watching on whatever appeals to me when im in the movie store. i prefer to watch movies in the comfort of my home rather then at the theatre (although there are exceptions...some movies are just better on the big screen)

summer blockbusters are better on the big screen. anything that engages the eye: sci-fi, adventure, martial arts, etc

stuff that engages the mind, like comedies or drama, better at home

i concur.
i could use a good "mind bender". something like memento or requiem for a dream. those movies left me reeling.
1408 was pretty good, but not as pyschologically 'stimulating' (i hate that word) as i would have liked.

Ok ok ill stop with the rentals now. :D

Exactly! Some of my top 10 favorite movies would be torn apart by people. I don't care. I watch the movies for me. Even sometimes when a movie has a predictable storyline there can be other elements of the movie that totally save it. I never used to look at film as true art but they really do catch my interest in the same way.

I saw Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner last weekend and thought it was one of the most original and interesting movies I've seen in nearly a year.

I took my daughter to see "The Bee Movie". It was cute and worth seeing, but not quite the crowd pleaser that Shrek was.

Saturday afternoon Birch took Abby and I to see "Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium". I was in the depths of despair prior to going. It cheered me right up.

It was absolutely charming. Birch managed to stay awake for all but ten minutes, Abby and I were enthralled. I loved it. It was imagination and hope and believing all wrapped up in one hour and thirty three minutes of great family film. Dustin Hoffman was fantastic. ****

Do not, under any circumstances, go see "In the Name of the King". I didn't know anything about it, but my wife took me on my birthday because she thought I would like it. One of the worst movies ever made. My wife kept saying, "I'm really sorry" throughout the entire thing. When the credits rolled, the entire theater breathed a sigh of relief.

Bad writing, cheesy delivery, the costumers couldn't decide if they wanted "period" costumes or modern (so, they went with period costumes with modern material and seams), the protagonist wields a boomerang, Ray Liota looks like Wayne Newton, and Burt Freaking Reynolds is the king! After the first scene, I almost walked out of the theater (which I never do).

I think Leelee was pretty hot in this movie as was Kristanna Loken.

Its not like the cast isn't halfway decent, that's why I don't get why the delivery was so cheesy. Must have been really bad writing and directing.

Jason Statham (why my wife really wanted to see this)
Leelee Sobieski
John Rhys-Davies (Gimli from LOTR)
Ron Perlman
Ray Liotta
Burt Reynolds

Maybe just too many actors who's career is either on the way up or on the way down.
