Several theaters around here are still showing HP6.

Laurel caught the trailer for the next Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Talk about vomitous.

I think we saw that trailer at whatever movie it is that's out that has the special forces hamsters. Agreed, looks stupid. The hamster movie wasn't half bad.

I just showed that Avatar trailer (awesome btw) to my daughter. Before it started she said she saw the trailer for Avatar at GI Joe, but once it started she said "whats this, it isn't Avatar"? When it was over she was stunned that there were two Avatar movies coming out

This weekend I saw two current movies, Julie and Julia and All About Steve.

Julie and Julia was pretty entertaining and funny as well. I didn't expect much, figuring it would be a chick flick. It was, but I like chick flicks from time to time. So its a good date movie and it will make you fill good.

All About Steve has been panned by the critics who mostly hated it. I don't understand that at all. I took my two daughters and all 3 of us laughed our butts off. At times they were actually cringing and hiding their faces like it was a horror movie because Sandra Bullocks character was doing something so awkward and humiliating that you just couldn't watch. Making us laugh while we cringed, Sandra played it perfectly. The ending was also well done. Lots of funny stuff while we learned a message. I highly recommend All About Steve if you want a movie that doesn't take itself seriously and will keep you laughing all the way through it.

Julie and Julia hyway nailed it. Great movie. If you like 'relationship movies', ya gotta see this one. Very well done. Great acting from, of course, Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, but also from Stanley Tucci as Child's husband Paul.

Love Happens with Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart. My wife and I love romantic comedies, and this was billed as such. I don't know what it was, but it was neither a romance or a comedy. It never seemed to really get going with any passion. The characters seemed a little thin, and the plot developments seemed overly contrived or not really believable. There is a major point about Eckhart's character that does not make sense (at least to me), and Martin Sheen's character had no originality. Aniston's performance was fine, but the movie didn't give her enough to do. Conclusion: we expected great things, but it turned out to be a clunker.

9 Anyone see this one yet? How was it?

Yeah, the good thing about ParaAct was that the camera didn't shake as much and the chick was more attractive. Other than that ... hmmm, i'd say the really best part about ParaAct is that it is probably playing in the same theater as Zombieland so you can still change your mind before actually wasting your money and go see a fun movie.

Its not that its not good. Its just that Good is all that it is. You will enjoy it as long as you don't buy into the hype of the trailer and the internet campaign to cast it as the scariest movie ever. My daughter bought it and came out hating the movie. I was more realistic and came out with an attitude that it was ok, but I'd rather recommend zombieland.

it's like blair witch with slightly better camera work/effects and better looking people...there are a few good scenes but for the most part nothing really happens...i will say that if you're gonna see it though, it'd be better in the theater than waiting for it on video

I thought the same thing. My kids watched the cartoon Avatar, so when they saw a trailer for The Last Airbender they were excited. Then I saw the trailer for Avatar and couldnt figure out WTF they were talking about.

Its a strange popular culture phenomenon. If youre not part of it, a common reaction is avoidance. Im not part of it either and think its a dumb fad, a watering down of even Anne Rice somehow sanitized enough for tween consumption and parental acceptance. i listen to a grown 35 yo woman prattle on about it at work, but whatever. its started with kids reading and if thats what it takes so be it. none of us have to give a dime towards it.

I tried to read the first book and got about 2/3rds the way through it before I had to quit. The writing is good, but the story is just so lame. Its the literary version of teenage angst and pulling flower petals while reciting "he loves me, he loves me not." In the book the dang vampires don't even make a real showing until way past the half way point. At least in the first movie they had them show up right away.

But teenage girls love it and so do middle aged women. I don't understand why mothers love it since this is a story about a 130 year old dude who hangs out in a teenage girls bedroom and watches her sleep at night. Most people call that lecherous behavior and would have him killed for it.

Have to agree with hyway here. My HS senior daughter and my wife both love it. My daughter and her friends not only attended the midnight showing early this morning, but they had to make custom tie dyed Tshirts to wear to the theater. My wife says she likes it because, at its most basic level, its an intense romance.

I have read the books and will go see the movie tomorrow. I"m not obsessed with it, but I do agree that on a level it is an intense romance.

They don"t even have sex until after they"re married which isn"t normal, even for teen books. I"ve read the House of Night Series which is also geared toward teens and those books are very explicit.

i braved the crowds of teenage twilight fans to see 2012 tonight. its really really long (agh! no pee breaks!) features plenty of unbelievable situations, lots of death & destruction and is rather entertaining if you like that sort of thing. about the same intelligence level as that movie *day after tomorrow*

I'd like to see that one too Sass. I'll tell ya what, the new wave of 3D movies are about the only reason I even go to the theater any more. But I saw a news story that the movie studios were going to take the 3D movies up to the $20 a ticket range.

now that they aren't under the nondisclosure agreement, I can share that my wife's company worked on about 20 minutes of the 3-D conversion for the new Alice in Wonderland. In fact, because of some flaws in the initial shooting, a couple shots have my sister in-law's hair superimposed in... the wife got a name in the credits too, which is awesome

thought that was kinda cool.

yeah, there are two schools of thought as far as 3-D film goes - one is to actually shoot the film in 3-D (with two cameras) and the other is to shoot it normally then convert it to 3-D. The conversion is tricky because, when you make the items into 3-D, you end up with blank space behind the items which then needs to be filled in or drawn.

There's still a debate as to which method is better, but my wife's company does the conversion (which, even if it doesn't work out for current movies, is a goldmine in converting old movies shot in 2-D). Something about the hair they shot in a couple scenes just wasn't converting well, so they brought in my sis-in-law and filmed her hair. I'm sure that was a little weird

Despite the hokie premise, Tarabull and I went to see "Hot Tub Time Machine" last weekend and laughed our arses off. Lewd, crude, and funny as hell. No need to see it in theaters but a must see.
