Now or never!
Ok, some would think this is lame.... So be it. I've dedicated myself to quitting smoking. As a reward, I'm going to get out for the first time since June. If I fail? I won't hike until I succeed. Bottom line, I need to make this painful, I need to quit :)

Simer, don't know if you're out there and available, maybe you and Forest would be able to join me. I'm thinking about going to the Boundry Waters for a trip in November. I'm open to dates. Would hike Thursday-Sunday. Anyone out there interested in getting involved and holding me accountable?! Lorax, do I hear ya out there? Give me a shout, I'm lookin' for a little support. The benefit for you? You won't have to deal with me for the first month and a half I'm quitting. Too bad I can't say the same ;)

I'm with you ....trying to quit myself. I'm only a social smoker but i find it extremely hard not to pick up a smoke when I have a drink. Guess I'll have to quit drinking too lol.

Good luck!!

Your lungs (and body) will thank you for it!

My hubby, Thinkbubelz, used to smoke.

He finally decided that enough was enough and quit cold turkey. He hasn't looked back....

Funny thing-- now that he isn't a smoker, he finds that the smoke bothers him at restaurants and bars, etc...

after just a few weeks you'll ask yourself how you lived like that. you'll be like "i didn't even realize i felt like #&%!$ all the time."

quit a 3 pack a day habit April Fool's Day 1996

BTW thriftyhiker I tried the go hiking for a week with no cigs and the first thing I did was buy a pack and smoke them all before I got home.

You have to really want to quit...not just talk about it, otherwise it just ain't gonna happen.

Good luck mountainrunner, it was the longing for the highcountry that helped me kick the coffin nail habit.

yeah, it is the hardest thing I've EVER tried to do and you truly have to really really want to.

But I think different people are addicted in very different ways. For me, i liken the addiction to the same way an alcholic is addicted to booze. I really shouldn't be around smokers any more.

But, it you want to quit - you can quit. Even if you have a lapse somewhere down the road, don't beat yourself up and just keep on going.
