Coach Dick Butkus

“On Tuesday nights, ESPN is running a series on Hall of Famer Dick Butkus taking over as coach of the Montour (Pa.) high school team, which had not won a game the previous season. Great show.”

“The first two shows have aired. The second one was last night. It airs Tuesdays at 10 Eastern.

In the first episode the team, mostly holdovers from the previous season, was not giving 100 percent. The two stars were injured and would miss the start of the season. Butkus brought in a former NFL player as assistant. They lost their preseason game.

Last night they played their first season game against a team that was up 28-0 at the half the previous season and the team to beat in their league. They lost the game 14-7, but led 7-6 at the half. They had a threat going at the end of the game, but the quarterback was sacked on two plays and threw incomplete on two.”

while a play was being reviewed, madden "explained" the "laws of physics" for 2 minutes. he then chastized the ref. for not understanding the rules of physics and making the "wrong" call (which must have been due to the refs lack of knowledge about "inertia" according to madden.)

“So much for Dick Butkus as a coach. I snuck a look, and Montour is 1-5 as of this week. Last night's episode covered their lone (so far this season) win against Gallatin High.

Besides the football team getting coached by NFL greats, the cheerleading squad got choreography and pointers from the Miami Heat cheerleaders. And the young ladies put on a helluva show as a result. They were more excited over the Heat cheerleaders than the guys were over Butkus and Roethlisberger.”
