Real Help After A Hurricane

“I think a thread about and thanking the people that helped you in the best ways after a hurricane might be helpfull.

A bunch of us in the SE have been thru these.
Please add your thoughts.

As for me, the first group that helped me was The Salvation Army. They were there before anyone else. My first hot meal after returning to my home was from these nice folks. I will be giving lots of money to them in the future from the United Way giving I do from each paycheck. The faith based charities kicked all forms of a$$ after this storm.
The Mormon Church arrived shortly after the SA. They did a great job.
Almost ever Church in town had groups going around and helping people dig out.
None of these people asked for money, but I did give a few dollars on the spot.

About a week later, the Red Cross started hot meals.

About four days after the storm, the U.S. Army came in force and passed out water, ICE, and all the MREs you could carry.
Just as important, they helped local police.
Many a time, I saw a hummer drive thru my neighborhood keeping 'the bad guys' away.
I no longer felt the need to keep my sidearm with me at all times.

MUCH later, electricity and phone service was restored and I was able to get online.

“I've been blessed and dodged every serious bullet sent my way. However when I did have problems any help I've ever received came from where it always comes from, my family.

There are some real good folks on this board.
