yes trailhound57. do you not think that the sanctity of the planet is more important than our own personal raping of the land? the earth is more precious than our capitalist destructive ways

Don't put words in my mouth, I certainly believe in the protection of the earth. Actually, that's how I make a living. However, to assume that one society of humans doesn't is simply incorrect. And I really don't understand what you mean by the comments we should return the earth back into their care? No offense, but it sounds like a lot of fluff with no attempt to contribute a solution.

certainly i did not mean to put words into your mouth, trailhound57 in my question. please forgive my poor judgement in wording. returning the earth back into their care is just that, yes, it is hard to go back, or even to visualize going back, but desperate times call for desperate measures. if we returned the land to them, due to their traditions and respect for the land they will be able to turn our "progress" around in the right direction

Allegedly, some evangelists are now hopping on the climate change wagon.

Soooo... If, according to neo-nazis, environmentalists are 'watermelons' (green outside, red inside), what fruit or vegetable are the new converts?

Kiwi ... hairy outside, squishy inside?
Star Fruit ... mushy edges, but neat-o cross-section?
Broccoli ... little trees?
Apples. ... taste good with cheese?

I think this pretty much shows that the Global Warming Hysteria is nothing more than the Socialist/Communist Movement's attempt at controlling people....Remember how well the SOVs and Chicoms dealt with "free expression" or "questioning"...something we call FREE SPEECH.

Well the Weather Channel has this to say

The Weather Channel’s most prominent climatologist is advocating that broadcast meteorologists be stripped of their scientific certification if they express skepticism about predictions of manmade catastrophic global warming. This latest call to silence skeptics follows a year (2006) in which skeptics were compared to "Holocaust Deniers" and Nuremberg-style war crimes trials were advocated by several climate alarmists.

The Weather Channel’s (TWC) Heidi Cullen, who hosts the weekly global warming program "The Climate Code," is advocating that the American Meteorological Society (AMS) revoke their "Seal of Approval" for any television weatherman who expresses skepticism that human activity is creating a climate catastrophe.

Face it, this is another limp wristed attempt to show that AMERICA and our SUCCESS is the reason for all the pain in the world. It comes from lazy failures who are truly jealous of those who worked hard and became successful. Stop attacking success, try some....it works if YOU WORK>

More evidence that Global Warming is mostly a natural phenomenon.

Actually XL, I showed you before how I cut my home's emissions by 25% without cutting any of our comforts. Just cut it another 15% last week. How? I bought a new fridge. Old fridge used 6kW/day, new one uses 1.3kW/day.

Holy cow! I actually UPGRADED my fridge to a new model AND cut my emissions at the same time. IMAGINE THAT, I went forward and not backwards in my standard of living! But you say that can't be done...

With every day that passes, more and more people are buying greener products. This is a good thing, because with every passing day, we work toward being independent from those smaller, radical islamic states that have so much power over our country and its economy.

Actually, studies are showing that soot and other particulates have a cooling effect. Without those pollutants being produced over the last hundred years, climate change could already be worse.

And... if you reset the date range for the Earth, you'd see that it's been warming and cooling, warming and cooling, on and on and on without any help or emissions from us for millions of years.

And it will continue to do so regardless of what we do.

BTW, I'm all for reducing emissions, because while it likely have only teensy affect on the climate, it will have a huge effect on respiratory diseases, and it will clear away that damn smog that obscures my views when I hike.

Yes, but that's not really the point. The cycle exists, but humans have cause major flux in the warming cycle. This is actually been some what of a boon for geologists; they can witness geological events that would normally take their life time, +.

The evidence, and the many valid interpretations of this evidence, shows that while Earth has a cycle (mostly due to the planetary wobble, along with other natural and unnatural factors; like tectonic shifts and space junk hitting the surface), since the industrial revolution, the amount of CO2 has jumped at a greater rate than normal. This type of jump has not been witnessed in the geological record in a very long time.

The cycle of CO2 emissions was somewhat stable, then goes off the charts at the turn from the 19th, to the 20th century, then into the 21st century.

Clear cutting of CO2 scrubbers, CO2 sinks thawing out, release of CO2 from lake beds and the ocean floor are types of situations when CO levels are out of "wack" with the natural cycle. The data reflects that there is a "curious" relation to our human industrial revolution and the jump in CO2 levels and global temperature change.

While some might like to through this caution to the wind, I would love to be proven wrong. So far, it hasn't happened.

There's research posted yesterday which contradicts your opinion. That's the problem with global warming Chicken Littles - they just absorb without critical thought that which supports their opinion and refuse to even recognize the existence of refuting data (or at best summarily dismissing the validity of it). With global warming, this has happened on a grand scale, helped along by a biased, sensationalist media. It's now pretty much a mindless "common sense" that Man is the big culprit in global warming.

US House Passes "Long-Term Energy Alternatives"
"Last night, the US House of Representatives finished its promised "first 100 hours" push on a legislative agenda that included ... "Creating Long-Term Energy Alternatives for the Nation Act"

Nancy Pelosi's web site claims that the new law will:

...[invest] in clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency by repealing billions in subsidies given to big oil companies that are raking in record profits. Specifically, the measure ensures oil companies that were awarded the 1998 and 1999 leases for drilling paid their fair share in royalties. It also closes loopholes and ends giveaways in the tax code for Big Oil. Finally, the bill creates a Strategic Renewable Energy Reserve to invest in clean, renewable energy resources, promoting new emerging technologies, developing greater efficiency and improving energy conservation."

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/01/us_house_passes.php

This is very good news. The ONE thing that pisses me off the most about Bush has been his continued handouts to his pet industry. The 2005 energy bill was just another excuse to give even more $ to the oil companies at a time that they were posting their biggest profits ever. This new bill helps to correct that abuse.

"There's research posted yesterday which contradicts your opinion."

That support you're talking about comes from a secondary source, and from a newspaper from the UK.

As you well know, when there are conflicting reports, one must look at the validity of the sources used to support the claim.

I've listed countless primary sources to support my claim; primary source which hold more water than some newspaper article off of the internet.

Anyone can dig up anything they want to support what ever claim they make. Because of this, close scrutiny is paramount when forming a conclusion. In this case, my Ace of Spades beats your 6 of Diamonds.

In addition, some of my primaries come from our own government, under the past total Republican leadership. I suggest the use of primaries when ever possible; it cuts down on the craploa.

"That's the problem with global warming Chicken Littles - they just absorb without critical thought that which supports their opinion and refuse to even recognize the existence of refuting data (or at best summarily dismissing the validity of it)."

I have looked at data from the other side of the argument; this subject was big part of my geology courses. As I have stated many times in the past, I have not ruled out natural events/cycles in forming my conclusion.

I will dismiss the notion that increased solar output is the sole cause of this present warming event. While observations on Mars have reflected this natural solar fluctuation, the composition of the atmosphere is so different than that of our own planet that it is an unfair comparison to use for support in this discourse.

IMHO (and in closing), reading something that someone else has digest for you, really isn't a good thing, Mutt. Go to the primaries, form your own opinion and stay away from the "fast-food" media.

So if I use some of my hard-earned money and install an incinerator on my property - one that produces a huge cloud of pitch-black smoke 24/7, I will be allowed to do so?

No, it is a obvious inhalation hazard and a visual blight on the neighborhood. The Hummer is no different, same inhalation hazard, same greenhouse gasses.
