Yeah, only the uber-rich will be able to afford to live Vegas because water rates are going to go through the roof!

They have a pretty sharp woman in charge (Pat Mulroy), but it really boils down to access and Nevada has the puniest water right to the Colorado River. The only way they can get more is by purchasing from those with unused supplies and by drinking their own piss (recycling). That's what happens when your rep is drunk at the negotiating table...

USA #1 hurricane forecaster

William Gray pretty much lost all credibility last year during hurricane season. He revised his forcast 3 times and each time was totally wrong. He is predicting another very active season for 2007. He may turn out correct this year but the shear in the tropics which killed the 2006 season is still very high. I think the 2007 season will have a slow start.

u guys r being silly
right on cue. (Bateauxdriver, please read 3rd paragraph)

William M. Gray pioneered the concept of "seasonal" hurricane forecasting - predicting months in advance the severity of the coming hurricane season.
Gray's prognostications, issued since 1983, are used by insurance companies to calculate premiums.

He is Emeritus Professor of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University (CSU), and head of the Tropical Meteorology Project at CSU's Department of Atmospheric Sciences. Gray is noted for his forecasts of Atlantic hurricane
season activity. Professor Gray served as a weather forecaster for the United States Air Force, and as a research assistant in the University of Chicago Department of Meteorology. He joined Colorado State University in 1961. He has been advisor of over 70 Ph. D. and M. Sc. students. His team has been issuing seasonal hurricane forecasts since 1984.

After the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, Professor Gray announced that he was stepping back from the primary authorship of CSU's tropical cyclone probability forecasts, passing the role to Philip J. Klotzbach. Gray cited that he was devoting more time to the issue of global warming.

Dr. William Gray is over the hill and should consider the rocking chair. No one will take him seriously after his poor predictions over the last few years.

In 2005 Dr. Gray predicted 13 named storms and 7 hurricanes.

In 2005 we actually saw 27 named storms and 15 hurricanes.

=============================================

In 2006 Dr. Gray predicted 17 named storms and 9 hurricanes.

The 2006 we actually saw 9 named storms and 5 hurricanes.

With life and property on the line, I would expect more than 50% accuracy from a so called expert. Retire Dr. Gray before you lose all creditabilty.

Fascinating how a guy can go from being the #1 expert in the U.S. where insurance companies actually use his predictions, to somebody who is insulted as "over the hill", worthy of a "rocking chair" as soon as he says global warming alarmists are overreacting.

By the way, he DID retire from predictiins, to study global warming. He's out of the hurricane predictiin busibess, of ciurse his accuracy will go down. He didnt all of a sudden get dumb as soon as he pointed to alarmists. Again, he is #1 in the U.S. But, I guess you know better?

You made my earlier point quite well - right on cue.

i am laughing my ass off about that whole "Dr. William Gray" thing... all that about his decline and all after siding against "global warming alarmists"... none of which addresses the fact that i could have guessed better than him using my kids "pin the tail on the donkey" set from his birthday. well if you can't get one thing right i guess it's fair to move on to another. might as well take a shot at botching this as well.

so I think I figured out the Man Made Global Warming hysteria and it can be succinctly identified as "If she weighs the same as a duck then she must be a witch"

The party of diversity and tolerance strikes again. It's amazing how hypocritical "progressives" are. Well, maybe not, considering they're little more than an intellectually vacuous social club.

Where’s the Tolerance? Hateful reactions from the Left.

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research (TCPR) recently generated headlines when it announced that former Vice President Al Gore’s Nashville estate “devoured nearly 221,000 kilowatt-hours” of electricity in 2006, “more than 20 times the national average.” This free-market think tank’s phones lit up when it analyzed Nashville Electric Service’s public records and identified an inconvenient gap between Gore’s conservationism and his energy consumption.

“I was accused several times of being a ‘stupid, redneck #&%!$,’” recalls TCPR’s vice president Nicole Williams, who fielded numerous calls. “I repeatedly was called a ‘whore’ and asked ‘Whose whore are you?’ for three days straight, almost as if those were talking points… I was shocked by these sexist insults — basically attacking my gender.”

The calls continued beyond Williams’s Nashville office.

“I had to change my home number and get an unlisted number,” Williams tells me. “I got about 10 death threats by phone that made an impression on me. I got the ‘I’m gonna get you’-type threats more than 100 times…I was worried that I would get shot walking to my car.” Williams discovered her obsolete address posted online. “If they could find my old home address, it would not be so hard to find a current one.”

[snip to end]

A couple of my favorite emails from some of the more tolerant liberals:

“You really should concentrate on what Southerners do best,” D. Hunter advised. “Sodomizing and impregnating little children!”

“You guys are the faggiest fags I’ve ever come across. How do you get any work done, what with all the c**k sucking and such?”

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Global warming poses a "serious threat to America's national security" and the U.S. likely will be dragged into fights over water and other shortages, top retired military leaders warn in a new report.

The report says that in the next 30 to 40 years there will be wars over water, increased hunger instability from worsening disease and rising sea levels and global warming-induced refugees. "The chaos that results can be an incubator of civil strife, genocide and the growth of terrorism," the 35-page report predicts.

"Climate change exacerbates already unstable situations," former U.S. Army chief of staff Gordon Sullivan told Associated Press Radio. "Everybody needs to start paying attention to what's going on. I don't think this is a particularly hard sell in the Pentagon. ... We're paying attention to what those security implications are."

Gen. Anthony "Tony" Zinni, President Bush's former Middle East envoy, says in the report: "It's not hard to make the connection between climate change and instability, or climate change and terrorism."

(Broadcast in High Definition where available)

As Earth heats up at a dangerous rate and fossil fuels become
scarcer, ordinary citizens and businesses are bypassing the federal
government to lead the way in exploring a clean, renewable source of
power: the sun. In this report, NOVA shines a light on how and why
people across America and the world are "going solar," using radiant
energy of the sun to power homes, businesses, and even entire
communities. But can everyday people really make a difference by
using solar power? And can solar technologies, with their high costs
and logistical challenges, truly play a bigger role in powering the
future of humanity? The grand hopes, latest innovations, roiling
controversies, and practical realities of solar power all come to the
fore in this program.

- This Week: "Hot Politics" (60 minutes),
Tuesday, Apr. 24 at 9pm on PBS (check local listings)
Inside FRONTLINE: Some investigative history
- Live Discussion: Chat with correspondent Deborah Amos, Wed., April 25, at 11 am ET

No, "Hot Politics," our broadcast this Tuesday night, is not about the early going in the race to be the next president. Instead FRONTLINE and the Center for Investigative Reporting examine why the federal government has been slow to wake up to the challenge posed by global warming. Why, we ask, when there was a scientific consensus that the earth is warming articulated nearly 20 years ago, have Republican and Democratic administrations alike been unable to come up with a strategy to deal with the problem?

In 2008 it is possible that both major party nominees will run on platforms that call for mandatory action to do something about the nation's carbon emissions. But as correspondent Deborah Amos and producer Peter Bull reveal in our look back at what happened, such proposals have been on the table before. Powerful industries - coal, oil, mining and electric utilities - got both parties to back away from meaningful action by first attacking the scientific consensus and then raising the specter of damage to the economy. As a result, the U.S. began to go it alone in terms of the worldwide climate debate.

Former Vice President Al Gore did travel to Kyoto and pledged U.S. support for mandatory reduction standards for carbon dioxide emissions. But when he came home, the treaty to which he committed the nation was never even submitted to the Senate for ratification (where it faced almost certain defeat). One Clinton administration official, Deputy Secretary of State Eileen Claussen, quit her job in frustration. Says Claussen, "... It's better to have good rhetoric than bad rhetoric, but it's actually better still to want to do something."

When President Bush took the U.S. out of the Kyoto treaty process altogether, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency Christine Todd Whitman, tells FRONTLINE: "The way it happened was the equivalent of flipping the bird, frankly, to the rest of the world..." And the Bush administration would go one step further. Scientists within the government were told to stop talking about climate change. An important study that assessed the potential impact of global warming on different regions within the U.S. - and the need to plan for those events - was actually suppressed.

If you are interested in how 'hot' are the politics around climate change, the way the media were spun to fashion the discussion, and the orchestrated attack on the science behind global warming, you will want to see this investigative history. If you cannot join us Tuesday night, the program will be available for viewing on our Web site the day after, along with special reports, maps, the extended interviews, and the opportunity to join in the discussion about this report.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Karl Rove's debate with singer Sheryl Crow and producer Laurie David about global warming heated the atmosphere at a black-tie Washington dinner.

On the eve of Earth Day, Crow and "Inconvenient Truth" producer David walked over to the presidential adviser's table at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner Saturday night at the Washington Hilton.

Their differences on global warming quickly bubbled over, the Washington Post reported Sunday.

"I am floored by what I just experienced with Karl Rove," David said later. "I went over to him and said, I urge you to take a new look at global warming. He went zero to 100 with me. ... I've never had anyone be so rude."

Rove said: "She came over to insult me and she succeeded."

As the debate intensified, Crow tried to calm things down but was drawn into the debate with Rove instead.

"You work for me," she told Rove, according to the Post column "The Reliable Source."

"No," was his response. "I work for the American people."

Heather Lylis, a spokeswoman for Crow and David's global warming tour, said Sunday that Crow's response for Rove was: "Yes, and I'm an American citizen."
