OH CRAP....

http://www.wecnmagazine.com/2007issues/may/may07.html

Mines in Switzerland that were overtaken by the Little Ice Age...meaning it was WARMER at one time....then got COOLER (think going from summer to fall to winter to spring if you can't wrap your mind around the Geological thing).

"Bryson describes the navigational instructions provided for Norse mariners making their way from Europe to their settlements in Greenland. The place was named for a reason: The Norse farmed there from the 10th century to the 13th, a somewhat longer period than the United States has existed. But around 1200 the mariners’ instructions changed in a big way. Ice became a major navigational reference. Today, old Viking farmsteads are covered by glaciers.

Bryson mentions the retreat of Alpine glaciers, common grist for current headlines. “What do they find when the ice sheets retreat, in the Alps?”

We recall the two-year-old report saying a mature forest and agricultural water-management structures had been discovered emerging from the ice, seeing sunlight for the first time in thousands of years. Bryson interrupts excitedly.

“A silver mine! The guys had stacked up their tools because they were going to be back the next spring to mine more silver, only the snow never went,” he says. “There used to be less ice than now. It’s just getting back to normal.”

This killed me:

"Or perhaps it's a remnant of the careless Boomer worldview, that all-American, use-it-before-it's-gone attitude that spins on an axis of a truly horrible irony: The more we learn of our desperate environmental straits, the more we learn of dwindling oil reserves and the more we learn that our shiny happy United States might not be the responsible, beneficent global superpower we once dreamed it was, the more we say "screw it" and grab onto the last gasp of pleasurable excess and vice no matter the future repercussions, telling ourselves we might as well enjoy that stupid, chromed-out three-ton GMC Yukon Denali before the oil runs out and the terrorists eat my babies and the damn liberals change the laws and make us all drive Smart cars to the Tofu Hut in order to turn us all gay. Sound familiar?"

Its a referance to peak oil XL... You did notice the price of gas lately? Its not an accident no one wants to build a new refinery when the supply is dropping...

Wrong, LJ, oil companies would love to build more refineries. But every time they try, they are blocked by enviro freaks, legislation freaks, and every special interest group you can think of. Now we are paying the price of our shortsightedness.

Yep... it was Them Enviro Freaks that were responsible for the ungodly natural gas prices in California a few years ago... 'til Enron got busted. Maybe you missed that.

If oil companies build more refinery capacity, there will be downward pressure on gas pricing and You Know they sure as #&%!$ don't want That!

Perhaps you should wonder why George&Dickie's buddies in the Awl Bidness bought up all those small refineries and promptly shut them down.

How much of that tax goes back into sudsidies? Go back a few years to that joint senate-house energy circus- what a joke. Or better, go back to the 1979 senate hearing in which the oil execs were telling of the woes of 55MPH and small cars had curbed demand to the point their companies might not survive. I own ;CVX, RIG and XTO.

Right now...the reason the supply is low is that we are switching from WINTER blends to something like 55 SUMMER blends...plus the fact that as the demand for fuel has gone up the production capability has actually DROPPED.

Why do you have to own an oil company? If refineries are such a profit center, why aren't the Bloombergs of the world building them?
bacpac

Since 1973, the 'REEL' price of oil has been in the periods when demand diminishes (imaginerally) for a while ,so lower prices reintensify our addiction , which again leads to the 'GAFF'.
The Bloomberg refinery would probably come on line in the middle of the next 'REEL-GAFF'period, at which point he would be standing on an outrageous capital outlay with gross operating cost and lots of 'red' numbers.
Basically, when the Saudies pull the chain ,you better follow.

Because the oil oligopoly has been steadily buying up smaller refiners and limiting refining capacity in a deliberate effort to drive up prices and the FTC has been negligent by not protecting consumers. They have enjoyed record profits as a result. http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d0496.pdf

The Mayor of San F sisco is banning Bottled water to help fight global warming.

This is illustrative of my objection to the global warming hysteria. I do not debate climage changes...it does...but I disagree that we are having any effect.

Rather the people pushing this idea use it to gain control in parts of our lives where they should have no...and I mean NO control.

My argument is that GLOBAL WARMING HYSTERIA is an emotional issue...much like the hysteria over witches in the 16 and 1700s. And I see WAAAY to many people using it for personal gain.

Because some become hysterical does that define the lot? Defining all by the actions of the fringe is hysterical in itself. Pick up a copy of 'Collapse' by Jared Diamond. It demonstrates how well the US is following all the other fallen civilizations into the tank in a singlefile line of perfection.

Y2 I have defined it adinifinitum...so now it is time to see if you know WHAT Fascisim is...or if it is just another neat word you pull like RACISIM etc.

I am betting it is the latter....

As for climate change and witchcraft...it calls for a study of history...LOL same "scientific process" being used. It was a process whereby if you were accused it stuck. There was no real process...it was almost totally emotional.

Same thing for the Enviornutjobs. Face it they are loser loons who make their living on selling the snake oil of the 21st Century which is Enviornmentalisim.

Save that kind of oration for the ReichStag, XL, you're spitting.

I was talking to my sister-in-law recently and she mentioned writing a term paper for senior year in high school about Global Warming/Climate Change.
Uh, the year was 1966.

My father-in-law worked for the National Weather Service in the Washington D.C. area and it seems he and his colleagues saw this stuff coming in the '60s.

Come on that even makes the point. Its not a fact its a political gambit. You guys need to find something different to accuse me of if you go the nazi route...I am not the one (vile baby can back me up on this) who continually alludes to allowing the destruction of Isreal.
