Because the oil oligopoly has been steadily buying up smaller refiners and limiting refining capacity in a deliberate effort to drive up prices and the FTC has been negligent by not protecting consumers. They have enjoyed record profits as a result. http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d0496.pdf

Evidently this report was found to be flawed by the FTC. In any event the report states that the rise in fuel costs due to mergers amounts to a few pennies per gallon or in some cases reduced pricing.

As I said if fuel refining was such a cash cow people would be building refineries all over the place.

WOW...so if GLOBAL WARMING is so dangerous...why do you have to adopt the tactics of the Taliban/Al Quaeda to get people to fall in line?

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/DebraJSaunders/2007/06/25/hooey_denier_deniers

If you want to convince the world that an overwhelming majority of scientists believes in global warming, then start by ignoring scientists who are not true believers. First, establish lists of scientists with your approved position, then smear dissidents. Soon, up-and-coming scientists will be afraid to cross the rigid green line.

So, the Society of Environmental Journalists put together a guide on climate change that lists a number of publications on global warming, scientists and seven environmental groups, each with positive descriptions. Under the "Deniers, Dissenters and 'Skeptics'" category are four listings -- all negative. They suggest that these folk are venal, partisan and bad scientists, or all of the above.

Thanks a lot phuckers. Because of the global warming freaks beating the panic drums and demanding a push for ethanol the price of milk is going through the roof. Making poor families and their little skinny babies go without milk so you can feel better about yourselves.

Heartless pricks.

Gore claims the snowcap atop Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro is shrinking and that global warming is to blame. Yet according to the November 23, 2003, issue of Nature magazine, "Although it's tempting to blame the ice loss on global warming, researchers think that deforestation of the mountain's foothills is the more likely culprit. Without the forests' humidity, previously moisture-laden winds blew dry. No longer replenished with water, the ice is evaporating in the strong equatorial sunshine."

So this is not a prime example of human caused climate change, huh?

Talk about reverse, twisted logic for the stupid.

With deforestation occurring at a great pace all over the world right now, causing drastic changes in humidity levels all over the world right now, what would you call it of than 'human caused climate change likely reulting in signifigant warming at first and later in sudden drastic cooling as Gore has said'?

Me thinks you want the "global drying" thread.

All climate change by man can't be lumped into global warming.

uncliff, what are you talking about?

I'm simply saying you can't lump eve y climate change, man-made or otherwise, as "warming". That was an example of less precipitation due to lack of trees in a localized area. Certainly not indicitive of aglobal warming problem.

Not sure what your quiz is about.

I lived in Florida for 21 years. When I first moved there, it would rain at almost the exact same time every day for about 45 minutes. You just counted on it. For about the last 10 to 12 years it is just hit and miss with the rain. Very sad. Part of the reason is the paving over of a lot of the swampland. Now Florida is in the middle of a HUGE drought.

Tango I don't know if it relates to global warming or not but Florida is certainly dry. Lake Okeechobee hit a new record low, dropping to 8.86 feet above sea level for the first time in recorded history. The river of grass will be going dry and soon the developers will be rolling the bulldozers to build the everglades if this continues. I hope they like drinking saltwater. Who would have imagined Florida having drought issues 20 years ago. I remember Florida like you do. Endless undeveloped beaches and lots of rain.

Ditto, about 10 or 12 years ago the weather abruptly changed here in western North Carolina.

1996 was what I consider the last normal year of weather (as compared to the previous 40 years, the limit of my experience).

It is now far drier and warmer in the late Spring and early Summer.

Melted snow does not reflect the warm suns rays ,so the lack of moisture causes direct global warming.

What mea urable amt. (say a % of annual snowfall of S. Dakota) does the reduction in snow represent? I don't think it amounts to any statistically significant amt. when looked at on a global scale. If I'm wrong, I'd like to know what data you have b/c this sounds like an unverified theory to me.

Although it's tempting to blame the ice loss on global warming, researchers think that deforestation of the mountain's foothills is the more likely culprit.

So... dittoheads are willing to believe science if it supports their preconceived notions? What is the scientific standard here? Hear only what we want and believe only those snippets of science that are convenient?

This was an aside mentioned in a story in Nature, not a peer reviewed study. Scientific opinion is nearly unanimous in the opinion that man-made global warming is in fact occurring.

A long walk on a short, Oh , that's pier. No, the truth of Global warming like all issues lies somwhere between the extremes. Somewhere between the 'Gore 'side and the 'god created earth for man and he can do no harm as long as he repents before he dies' side, is a hard and dynamic law of space, time and matter that will determine the future of man kind. Talking to a burning bush or letting Al Gore convince you to burn your car will only give you a polarization flag to wave in the polluted winds of the present.

The difference between say Medicine (leaving out the pseudo science of PSSSYhcology and PSSSSSichiatry) is that a scientific process must be followed before a conclusion is reached.

And WHYTOOO....um the media does NOT go along with medicine they attack it daily with their demands for GOVERNMENT CONTROL!!!..

Most predators make easier work by attacking the weak and old and especially when they a sick. Some feel that one of the duties of government is to protect its' citizens, but we all know that government 'of and by and for people', has already been eaten by the predators and has the lone purpose of protecting the interest of the few 'kings of the'.

It is postulated that particulates in air pollution do cause cooling, but not really the best countermeasure ---- like we need more soot to breathe.

If not for that, climate change could have already progressed further by now.

I know Marko - it's looking increasing desperate for him as a desire to do something about all forms of pollution finally takes hold on the US.

Those on these radio shows know they don't havea leg to stand on when they deal with the facts, so they pick on a particualr target and attempt to destroy their credibility, and associate the whole issue with them.

Al Gore - repeat the internet lie - challenge a couple of the things he says - therefore the whole issue has no merit - it really is clutching at straws.
