Carlin was right. People are basically selfish and stupid… We’ll eventually foul the nest and try to wipe ourselves out. I believe the technical term is ‘die-off’.

Look around. We’re in an arms race with Microbes. Antibiotics that used to work are useless. How will the planet compensate with over a billion Chinese wanting a two-car garage? Wars over water? Climate Change is but one issue among so very many.

And in the end, it will all be advertised as the predictions of the big Pie in the Sky Coming To Pass.

Pleasant dreams ---

Strangely enough a strategy of conservation makes no sense. Why starve yourself while others live it up at your expense?

Conservation does not mean starve yourself,
or destroy the economy (as XL loves to say),
or go without showers for a week at a time,
or sit in the dark.

Just one example: I've cut my electric consumption 25%, but I still take long hot showers and actually have more light available inside and outside than before. The money I haven't sent to my power company is still growing the economy from all the CFL's, water heater timers and insulation I've purchased.

I found an article that discusses the livestock/methane thing. My number was off, they are working on reducing the output by 50%, and MarkO was right, it mostly comes from the belching.

XL - Don't worry, Tilt was right. The laws won't tell YOU what you must do until its way too late.

Mandating by law is the only way it will work since dimwits like XL can't seem to understand the notion of conservation on their own.

SO rosey you have no problem mandating Lifestyle by Government? Okay...so what happens if the Libbiesocialists ever fall out of power?

No Really...Say they pass these laws...the economy tanks big time....then the next election we get a group that makes the Taliban look mild?

I have a better plan...lets do this like Libbies enforce the law on everything else...we pass the law...but if you violate it we 'Censure" you or issue a SERIOUS CONDEMNATION!////YEAH that will work

Article today on New Scientist about the impact of meat on the environment, which Nigal brought up earlier.

"A kilogram of beef is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions and other pollution than driving for 3 hours while leaving all the lights on back home."

Okay...then I am missing something? I thought Leather (from COWS) was a NATURAL item.....so the critter wrapped in a Natural product...is not natural I mean its INTRODUCED?

Call it silly Rosey...but I do not see ANY reason for erosion of your personal rights for anything as contrived as the EnvironmentalRELIGION.

Hypocrite
Just a week after dumping tons of CO2 in the atmosphere to promote not dumping CO2 into the atmosphere, Al Gore again shows his commitment to Mother Earth by serving a threatened species of fish at his daughter's wedding

Gore's message loses bite

By Rebecca Keeble

July 18, 2007 12:00am

ONLY one week after Live Earth, Al Gore's green credentials slipped while hosting his daughter's wedding in Beverly Hills.

Gore and his guests at the weekend ceremony dined on Chilean sea bass - arguably one of the world's most threatened fish species.

Also known as Patagonian toothfish, the species is under pressure from illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing activities in the Southern Ocean, jeopardising the sustainability of remaining stocks.

The species is currently managed by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Living Marine Resources, the body which introduced a catch and trade documentation scheme as an attempt to tackle illegal poaching of this species.

Working with non-government organisations, the Humane Society International's focus is now on pursuit of illegal fishing operators who, in the rush to cash in on the highly valued species, plunder stocks with no regard for sustainability.

It has been estimated that more than 50 per cent of toothfish traded is illegally caught, and includes juveniles vital to the ongoing toothfish population.

For many years HSI has expressed concern over the huge numbers of seabirds that die each year on the hooks of illegally set demersal longlines, threatening the long-term viability of those populations.

Yet, while legal operators in the Southern Ocean are obliged to follow strict environmental rules, illegal operators undermine the sustainability of their fishing operations.

Recently, HSI petitioned the US Government asking that they certify and sanction Spain for allowing Spanish nationals known to engage in pirate fishing operations to continue to harvest toothfish in a declared conservation area.

Success would allow the US Government to embargo Spanish toothfish imports until such time as Spain demonstrates compliance of its nationals with international law and agreements.

As we await a response from the US, thousands of endangered seabirds die, while the sustainability of the Patagonian toothfish and the legal fishing industry inches closer to the brink of extinction.

A strong and concerted effort by Governments, the fishing industry, the conservation community and by the public which drives consumer demand, is required to put an end to pirate fishing operations in the Southern Ocean - otherwise the ecological sustainability of the toothfish is at risk.

And Al Gore could choose something else to eat.

I don't have a problem with that, XL. Lessee, so we should allow back on the market:

A. The Firestone tires used on SUVs.
B. IUDs.
C. Anabolic steroids
D. Cocaine

And many, many others. Ya know, these products were all legal once. But, hey, they determined they were deterimental to our health, so they were banned.

That's really crushing the free market and fine example of facism, no?

Firestone still sells tires...turned out they were failing due to FORD (READ AMERICAN COMPANY) was damaging the tires in production

IUD's...wellhttp://www.mjbovo.com/Contracept/IUD-Truth.htm

Most of their problems were...OH YEAH Litigation Attornies.

Anabolic steroids are still prescribed in some cases.

Cocaine...well I agree that the war on Drugs is ridiculous so I will not argue that point....but then Where is it in the founding documents that the Government has control on ANY OF THIS...The Federal Government that is....I think the 10th Amendment (unless it was deleted) handles a lot of the feel good stuff.

Finally in each case (with the exception of the poor investigation of the IUD each of those products failed in TESTS, STUDIES and were able to be proven Dangerous.

Now someone didn't say, "THAT Firestone tire will kill you in 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 miles unless you only drive 10 miles an hour. And then when someone found out they COULD go that far at 75 mph the Firestone Detractor would say,"YOU are endangering your children doing that."

No they were tested in a SCIENTIFIC method

Not the Religion of Envioroconsensus

Additionally when they began saying the Tires were bad ...the THEY didn't keep driving on them
When the doctors decided andabolic steriods were bad..THEY DIDN'T KEEP USING THEM

Its the Hypocrisy Stupid

yeah then Watergate, or hundreds of other scandals would never have been found.

This admin has had the media wrapped around their finger. If they (the media) had been doing their job and asking the REAL and HARD questions, there is a high likelihood we would not be in Iraq right now.

WHAHAHAHA

It was the HIGHEST FORM OF "Science" At its time....

They practiced daily offering and sacrifices. However, human and animal sacrifices were held only on special occasions such as the enthronement of the Inca(the king), when 200 children would be killed, or in times of crises such as famine, or epidemics. Such critical situations were actually considered, most of the time, a result of disobedience to the Taboos and would therefore call for confession of sins. By confessing they would prevent or allay private and public disasters. At the beginning these confessions were done in public, becoming secret after some time.
