“Junk Science: New Science Challenges Climate Alarmists?

“People like to complain about the weather,” goes the old saw. This is
especially true nowadays as bad weather becomes an excuse for the climate
alarmist-friendly media to trot out its manmade global warming boogeyman.

The alarmists seem to need thinly-veiled headlines – such as the Washington
Post’s “Across Globe, Extremes of Heat and Rain” (Aug. 8) and the New York
Times’ “Warming Threatens Farms in India, U.N. Officials Says” (Aug. 8) –
as two more studies published this week in the journal Science and the
discovery of an embarrassing temperature error rained on their parade.

In the first study, UK researchers claim to have “improved the forecasting
skill of a global climate model by incorporating information about the
actual state of the ocean and the atmosphere, rather than the approximate
ones most models use.” The new model predicts that warming will slow during
the next few years but then speed up again, and that at least half of the
years after 2009 will be warmer than 1998 – the warmest year on record
according to global warming legend (more on that later).

“Most obviously, - he did not provide the math to back his claim (about the math), did he do it?

Second, - The argument is which is worse for global warming, not which is worse in general. If we could use that argument, I'll start saying "Killing puppies is worse than driving SUVs, so driving SUVs is ok."

Third, - You can't modify the "control" and compare that to your "test". In other words, for sake of argument, you have to assume everything is as it is. People maintain their weight by replinishing calories as they use them in equal amounts. Their reasons for maintaining their weight are irrelevant. For the sake of the comparison, you can't assume if a person walks they'll then "desire" to consume less calories.

Forth - again, changing the parameters to change the math. Doesn't work like that. Anyways, I know from first hand experience people in third world countries often walk further than we drive for groceries, church, see their friends, etc..

Fifth, - he almost has a good point here, but he left out 2 things. One, if you're going to do that extended math, you have to do it all the way back, to the industries that support each industry, etc. Something he did not do, which leads me to Two, he didn't provide any math to discount the math which he says is faulty ...

NASA's Backtrack on Warmest Year Is Being Ignored, Critic Says

NASA scientists this month corrected an error that resulted in 1934 replacing 1998 as the warmest year on record in the U.S., thus challenging some key global warming arguments, but the correction is being ignored, a conservative climate expert charged Wednesday.


Burnett, however, called the miscalculation "a serious math error" and noted that according to NASA's newly published data:

The hottest year on record is 1934, not 1998;

The third hottest year on record was 1921, not 2006;

Three of the five hottest years on record occurred before 1940; and

Six of the top 10 hottest years occurred prior to 90 percent of the growth in greenhouse gas emissions during the last century.


"A few years back, an error in satellite data was found and corrected from 0.04 degrees of cooling per decade to 0.01 degrees, and that was front-page news," he said. "If a change of 0.03 degrees is significant, then what about this, which is five times more? If the one is important for making your case, then the other is important for undermining your case.”
