WHOOPS someone came off the reservation...(LOL)

WHEELING - He is not yet back to work in the Senate chamber, but U.S. Sen. Robert Byrd is opposing "cap and trade" legislation pushed by the Obama administration.

The 91-year-old Byrd, D-W.Va., was released from an unidentified Washington, D.C. hospital last week after a month-long stay for a staph infection. He expects to return to the chamber before the Senate begins debate on "cap and trade" - which is tentatively set for this fall, according to Byrd's office.

"I cannot support the House bill in its present form," Byrd said in a statement. "I continue to believe that clean coal can be a 'green' energy. Those of us who understand coal's great potential in our quest for energy independence must continue to work diligently in shaping a climate bill that will ensure access to affordable energy for West Virginians. I remain bullish about the future of coal, and am so very proud of the miners who labor and toil in the coalfields of West Virginia."

Byrd grew up in the coalfields of Stotesbury, W.Va., in Raleigh County. Jesse Jacobs, spokesman for Byrd, said the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will begin marking up the "cap and trade" bill later this month, with floor debate scheduled for September or October.

Lousy Economy Could Swing Climate Change Vote
by Adriel Bettelheim | July 8, 2009 1:26 PM

Though Republicans portray climate change legislation as a costly energy tax that would cost families thousands of dollars a year, the worsening economy and budget woes in dozens of states are increasing chances the Senate will enact a bill this year.

The White House is hoping billions of dollars worth of free emissions allowances that would be part of a cap-and-trade system will persuade undecided senators to support the bill, which is one of its top domestic priorities.

The climate change bill (HR 2454) the House passed on June 26 would distribute allowances from 2012 to 2025 to each state to protect consumers from energy price hikes, help utilities and other industries transition to clean energy and to spur conservation efforts and new technologies.

Where are the tariffs on imported goods made by 'Coal Family Grandchildren', in China? If all this complication goes into this bill, why not at least finish it in quest to....Oh wait, that's right, tariffs caused all the problems in our economies of the past, just like, the lack of tariffs did this time.

OH Yogi....a wall is a wall...hey come on wasn't there a Senator who was famous for parsing or adding words....lets see....

Let me just give you one more example. In the midst of this housing crisis, John McCain said, “I will fight for those that lost their … real estate investments.” He went on to say, “It’s not the role of government to bail out big banks or small borrowers.”…What about the people who don’t invest in homes, but live in them? There’s an important distinction between the predators and the preyed upon.

There is, but there’s also a distinction between a full quote and a partial quote.

McCain took a hard line against government assistance in March but added some cushioning this month as financial crises mounted. Here is his comment from the March 25 sit-down with the Orange County Hispanic Small Business Roundtable:

McCain: I have always been committed to the principle that it is not the duty of government to bail out and reward those who act irresponsibly, whether they are big banks or small borrowers. Government assistance to the banking system should be based solely on preventing systemic risk that would endanger the entire financial system and the economy.

Guess who..here is a hint..he is the VEEP.

yeah, i hear mccain crying foul a lot from his senate seat about being misquoted.

...regan, of course, is dead so it's safe to misquote him.

there is a huge difference between posting the image of a dead president next to the american flag standing in front of something made to look like a war memorial putting words on the page that he never said. truth doesn't work by association. a turd by any other name would smell as sweet...

it's like those breakfast cereal commercials that show a bowl of nutrition-free "sugar bombs" next to an array of breakfast foods with a caption that reads "SUGAR BOMBS! PART OF THIS COMPLETE BREAKFAST" which is essentially the same as saying "ADJACENT TO THIS COMPLETE BREAKFAST" or "IN THE SAME ROOM AS THIS COMPLETE BREAKFAST".

in fact the ONE THING that regan did say (4 words) is misquoted... regan said, "Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!".

what hope do conservatives have when they can't even quote regan correctly?

wait... what's that whirring sound?

why it's REGAN spinning in his grave!

wasn't he the president that listened to UN advisors and lead and signed the montreal protocol that curbed the use of chlorofluorocarbon and hydrochlorofluorocarbons? these suckers are thousands times more worse than CO2 as far as global warming goes. regan took a bigger bite out of global warming than any other president in history. this was the most significant environmental treaties ever ratified!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Protocol

why then should i not take exception at his being used as an icon next to the words "global warming is a hoax"?

LOL...well Albert finally let slip what I have said for years....

GLOBAL WARMING IS ABOUT POWER.

http://www.climatedepot.com/a/1893/Gore-US-Climate-Bill-Will-Help-Bring-About-Global-Governance

Gore touted the Congressional climate bill, claiming it “will dramatically increase the prospects for success” in combating what he sees as the “crisis” of man-made global warming.

“But it is the awareness itself that will drive the change and one of the ways it will drive the change is through global governance and global agreements.” (Editor's Note: Gore makes the “global governance” comment at the 1min. 10 sec. mark in this UK Times video.)

The environmental group Friends of the Earth advocated the transfer of money from rich to poor nations during the 2007 UN climate conference.

"A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources,” said Emma Brindal, a climate justice campaigner coordinator for Friends of the Earth.

[Editor's Note: Many critics have often charged that proposed climate tax and regulatory “solutions” were more important to the promoters of man-made climate fears than the accuracy of their science. Former Colorado Senator Tim Wirth reportedly said, "We've got to ride the global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing — in terms of economic policy and environmental policy."]

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - A dramatic warming of the planet 55 million years ago cannot be solely explained by a surge in carbon dioxide levels, a study shows, highlighting gaps in scientists' understanding of impacts from rapid climate change.

During an event called the Palaeocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, global temperatures rose between 5 and 9 degrees Celsius within several thousand years. The world at that time was already warmer than now with no surface ice.

"We now believe that the CO2 did not cause all the warming, that there were additional factors," said Richard Zeebe, an oceanographer with the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

"There may have been an initial trigger," he told Reuters on Wednesday from Hawaii. This could be a deep ocean warming that caused a catastrophic release of methane from hydrate deposits under the seabed.

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas but much of it is oxidised into CO2 when it is released from hydrate deposits.

Zeebe and his colleagues estimated the amount of CO2 released during the Palaeocene-Eocene event by studying sediment cores from seabeds around the globe. Their study is published in the latest issue of Nature Geoscience.

so you are saying that there isn't precedent for volcanoes and other natural mechanisms to produce the increased levels of greenhouse gases seen in the atmosphere today? wow! i would not have expected you to post this. i guess this is another good indication that what we see today isn't the result of a natural mechanism but rather the result of human activity. thanks!

Certainly Yogi, and I see areas of the nation having some of the coldest months in a long time.

I see REPORTS of warming that are later shown to be lies, or the result of bad science.

Yogisan, over thousands of years, co2 levels rise and fall, and historically, they do so AFTER temperature fluctuations. The question isn't "does co2 levels rise?", it's "what significance is it?".
