“The weather is looking better. Showers Friday, but only a 40% chance, and we can hope that chance is in the morning. Only a 20% chance on Saturday, but windy. I'm in for a Friday night to Saturday. When ENS and I climbing Mount Mitchell, there was a hurricane supposed to hit North Carolina the same day. We weren't touched by rain. However, he did do his no rain dance.”

Anywho - I took a half day, so I can be at the trail head from 3pm on. So if anybody can meet me. I could put my x-terra at the finish line and everybody can just hike in when they get there. I can fit 5 plus packs.

Ox, I'm still up for a saturday - sunday if the weather for friday sucks. Setting up in the dark, in 40 deg with a downpour, does not sound fun.
If we all meet saturday AM, do the majority of the hike, with the less chance of rain, then camp and only have 2 or 3 miles to finish on sunday sounds more appealing.
Plus it gives Rob an extra day of healing.

“the parking lot is actually south of the AT on Rt 34, no? there is a pull-off lined with small boulders about 100 yards from where the trail crosses 34. That is where Ox and I parked the other week when we went north from there.”

“I parked on the north side. its an area for about 5 cars. Either way we'll see each other. I hope we can get a fire going saturday if the woods are not too soaked.”

“hmmm what to use for a shelter??? My tent sucks and I haven't gotten my bivvy yet.”

“are we still hiking north to south? It would be about 12 miles to Toms Run shelters, which would leave 5 for Sunday. South to north, we would hike 15 or so to Tagg Run shelters, leaving a very short hike for Sunday.”

“I'm using the hammock. But I may take my big tarp instead of the one it comes with. By the time we camp the rain "should" be ending.

“Bummer Ox. Drunkenfest is a big mabey. I kinda made a deal with the wife. She has to work both weekends 15 & 22, and I get to do this hike and the ENS finish Pa hike on the last weekend of the month.
Things a guy gotta do just to go hiking! This married stuff is all about negotiation.”

I realized today that I also have zero waterproof gear, or waterproofer for that matter. I may hit REI this weekend and see what I can do about that.”
