First off 1) I admire and respect the work teachers do. It's a tough job.

I must be radiating some kind of vibe of the folks in this town are finially starting to accept this newcommer. I was offered two side jobs this week. One I know for sure I can do, and so I accepted. (landscaping)
the other, I could use some advise.

2) When people around here find out that you have a college degree they come to you. tonight a woman who I barely know just in passing asked to hire me to tutor her 11 year old son in math(no, not in spelling! I'm too dyslexic to tutor anyone in that study). She never finished highschool herself and she of course wants a better future for her child. I always did well in math, even considered being a math major and took engeneering courses in highshcool in a special program. But the problem is that I have never tutored anyone, let alone a child being reluctant to study and I do not know what the going rate for tutor is either. I doubt she could afford a real tutor which is why I suspect she wanted to come to someone she knows. If I decided to take this job, do you all have advise on grabbing a childs attention and getting them to want to study math and to learn?

charge - $20 p/h

keep the boy's attention - flash him your granny boobs for each correct answer.

Good luck!

OGB find out what the kid likes.
Is it because he cannot do the work or WILL not do it?
Give rewards for good work. Check his homework WITH HIM.

Other suggestions are floating in my head. Send an email for details. I tutor often.
You do not need to be a math person to handle most of it.
Enjoy your landscaping.

Cost? Charge what suits you. $10-25/hr

or barter for the KID to do yard work... count the leaves of different kinds...
duh.
weigh the rake
weigh the books.

Not a math teacher. But a lifetime tutor of many topics.

send an email to

and I can give you more tutoring info
if you choose.
