“It was wierd. I did find myself wondering it it was tasteful, but coming from a science background I was totally spellbound. I guess the combination of "revulsion" (if you can call it that) and fascination made for a really great event. I highly recommend it, but I would leave the kiddies at home.”

“It's hard to describe. I gets rather macabre at times and it just sort of keeps coming at you. I know kids that are 5 that would be fascinated by stuff like this, I know grown adults that would get sick. I guess I mean use your best judgement, as any parent must do. For my kids it would require a fair amount of setup. In the end I elected to do it another year.

“Body Worlds to Open in Philadelphia
October 5, 2005 - The name Body Worlds conjures up a sci-fi flick that you probably wouldn't want to see. But the exhibit called Body Worlds has attracted no fewer than 17 million people across the world. Well, the exhibit opens in Philadelphia tomorrow.

Action News first previewed this amazing and unsettling exhibit when it was in Chicago earlier this year and several hundred thousand people came to see it. Now it has come to the Franklin Institute we have the first local interview with its controversial creator. Workers are still setting up scaffolding, lights and display cases for the incredible specimens that make up Body Worlds.
Real human beings have donated their bodies for plastination. It's a process in which the body's fluids are replaced by a plastic polymer that is pliable at first, but becomes hard and unbreakable and allows creator Gunther von Hagens to create dynamic displays. There is the hurdler, a female acher and a man riding his horse. Von Hagens is a doctor of anatomy who describes himself as a scientist who appreciates art. He knows his work has been described as shocking and sensational.

Dr. Gunther von Hagens/"Body Worlds" Creator: "It changes their minds. It is opinion changing exhibition. It is education and this is the difference."
Body Worlds lets visitors see healthy organs compared to diseased ones. And von Hagens says surveys have shown people who've experienced it often exercise more, and smoke less, or quit altogether. As for where the bodies come from... Von Hagens says he has thousands of people around the world who've signed up for plastination after death.
"Most donors donate their bodies after they see the exhibition."
Educators have been invited for a private preview Wednesday. The Franklin Institute got an overwhelming response. They're hoping for the same response from the public when Body Worlds officially opens this Saturday. Ticket prices range from 15 to 25 dollars for adults.
One final note, parents will have to decide whether their children are old enough to handle the content of this exhibition.

got a call for two dogs and the owner was dead. no biggie, I have done that before. but when I pulled up I relize this would be a different call.

news crew and TV cameras and police were there. so I go under the yellow tape and find out what just happened (man that is a cool feeling :) ).
not many details other then a 26 something woman was killed in her bedroom and her 6 year old son saw everything and ran out and got a neighbor to call police.

they needed me to get the animals out so CSI could do there job.

one dog tied up in livingroom
on dog tied up within view of the woman
one dog outback

one cat that would not leave the womans side.
so myself and Sgt D had to very carefully walk around the dead body and get the stupid cat!

i think the person who killed her (might be her hubby) tied all the dogs up knowing he was going to do this

I was sick to my stomach for the rest of the day. standing there in her neat house and looking at family pics with them all smiling mad me sooo sad.

I think she was stabbed because she was lying face down and blood was all over her back and the walls ect.....

A 25-year-old woman was found stabbed to death inside her Brooklyn apartment yesterday morning after her son ran into the street screaming for help, the police said.

The victim, Patricia Torres, who had been stabbed repeatedly, was found lying in her home at 2166 East 26th Street in Sheepshead Bay about 11 a.m., the police said. She was declared dead at the scene.

"The little boy came out and said he found his mom and it looked like she was killed," said a neighbor, Pam Levit, 57.

A handyman and locksmith who was working on Ms. Levit's house also saw the 6-year-old boy run into the street. The handyman, who would give only his first name, Jay, said he went to check on the house. "We were going to run inside when I saw the door was broken into," he said, explaining that the wood around the lock had been damaged.

Ms. Levit, a retired schoolteacher, took the boy to her home, she said, where he told her that he had stayed home from school because he suffers from asthma. He was watching television yesterday morning in his room when he got hungry and knocked on his mother's door, he said. When he heard no answer, he went inside and found her.

The family moved in about a year ago, renting the top floor of the two-story home, said Ms. Levit's husband, Mark Beiderman.

Yesterday, the police strung yellow crime scene tape up to block off the street. Investigators knocked on doors, and at one point the authorities took some animals out of the house, including several dogs, a cat and a Japanese fighting fish.

Last night, investigators were seeking to speak with Ms. Torres's boyfriend, the police said. Officers had gone to the house about 11 p.m. Monday night after a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute at the home.

Ms. Torres and a man believed to be the boyfriend were there, but they told officers that everything was fine. The police filled out a domestic incident report, but found no reason for further action.”

Fukced me up for a few days to say the least but I have a greater understanding of death now and it is not such an ominous thing for me now. Of course a murder is much different.”

We all have to go to mandatory debrief ( and I wear a thong) after a critical incident. All officers are required to be able to recognize and deal with the effects from bad calls (in our people).
