It is a lot different for you Tree. For most of us it is an abstract thing and the memories fade quickly when it's not in your face. I imagine there's not a day that goes by that you don't see something that reminds you of 9/11 and it's repercussions.

As for your ride to work…

“I’ll think about it, but I’m not scared, really,” commuter Leila Fullerton said as she was about to board a subway for Brooklyn after work on Thursday.

But she added that since the London train bombings in July, she has found herself scanning the car at times looking for suspicious characters.

Is there anyone that rides the Subway that doesn't look like a suspicious character? :D

I heard this news and figured that Treebeard must have gotten stopped with a pack full of law books again. Anybody who parks illegally is automatically a suspect.

Damn liberal evil-doing evil-doer!

No, it's the staple gun in the hip holster and the I hate Bush t shirt he wears that throws them onto hios trail.

Only if they kiss me first, Nigal!! lol

Yeah, you're right. That's kinda what I was trying to say last night in that long post. It's just so constant. I work by Grand Central and it's an extremely high profile area. You wouledn't believe the almost daily exercises they have here. 42nd Street is lined with cop cars for the length of several avenue blocks, sirens screaming. There are literally police cars as far as the eye can see up the Avenue. There must be at least 60 at a clip each time. They get out, surround Grand Central with guns drawn. It's like a scene out of a movie. It's a show of force, I believe. Part of the ongoing anti-terror procedures.

And yes, it is a constant reminder. We've gotten a bit de-sensitized, I would say. but, sometimes, it just gets to you and you just want a little peace and get away from that stuff for a while.

Deore, yes and no. There are plenty of bland looking, inconspicuous, non-threatening looking people on the subways. Then again, there are also a good sized sector that looks like they were just bombarded with gamma rays, too! :)

I would not want to think they might not take a threat seriously, so I'd rather see them over-react than not at all.

But it is uncanny how these scares seem to come on the heels of one of Bubya's speeches about the wore on terra.

I guess the NYPD is waiting for Treebeard to come strolling into the subway with his backpack full of soda.

Hate to disappoint them. But, my leg is bothering me today. Been giving me a little trouble (due to the Lyme, I think) this week. So, I'm going to spend 5 bucks and take the bus direct to Staten Island...

You just don't want to get caught carrying contraband.

I can just hear Treebeard calling into work now..."No boss I'm sorry I won't be in today. It is not Allah's will today. Maybe tomorrow?".

Thanks, Nigal! I'm looking forward to it today. It's like my own form of zen! Or therapy, at least! :)
