A cure for cancer.View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 19 of 19 messages posted.
“Brian Williams reported tonight that a massive clinical trial of a vaccine against cervical cancer has proven to be essentially 100% effective. Cervical cancer is caused by a virus, thus a vaccine is practical. In fact, it's the same virus that causes genital warts, if I've got my facts right. The vaccine won't do much for adults who have already contracted the virus, but once the FDA approves it, the plan will be to give it to every single pre-teen in the country, as a matter of routine. It's safe to assume that the other industrialized nations will do the same. Anyway, it looks like we'll soon have a world where cervical cancer joins polio and smallpox in the dustbin of history. I'm glad my portfolio contains Merck stock.” 8:45:46 PM 10/06/05 “What are the side effects?” 8:48:30 PM 10/06/05 8:58:58 PM 10/06/05 “That is GREAT news! I wonder how long it will take to get to the public.” 9:07:11 PM 10/06/05 “I heard it will be next year before the drug will be out. From the way they explained it on TV the drug prevents the HPV virus from causing lesions that could become cancerous, but doesn't actually work by curing cancer once a lesion become malignant.” 9:19:01 PM 10/06/05 “I'm glad my portfolio contains Merck stock.” DeoreDaXeKiller 8:45:46 PM 10/06/05 Now I would have thought you'd be excited over the cure.” 9:46:57 PM 10/06/05 “You'll make a killing on that stock DDX.” 10:18:50 PM 10/06/05 “Welcome to 21st century values, Geezr...” 10:20:17 PM 10/06/05 “I'm excited. May make Pap smears obsolete.” 11:04:04 PM 10/06/05 “Now I would have thought you'd be excited over the cure. Geezr Who said I wasn't? Or are you just trying to be an a$s infering I am not? Anyhoo... Because I have money invested in a company they have working capitol in which to invest in R&D to create these new technologies. Without people like myself who invest in companies they beleive in you wouldn't see many if any of the great innovations of our time. But, if you think that I in any way whatsoever feel ashamed that that I benifit from a company developing a society-changing technology because of the risk I took with my hard earned money you will surely be dissapointed. I take comfort in knowing that my couple of thou in merck stock has done more for the betterment of society then a buncha guys sitting behind their computers posting on a bulletin board. last edited: 10/06/05 11:26:37 PM” 11:24:34 PM 10/06/05 “So basically you cured cancer, good going. Mebbe if you'd have 'invested' the money in a cancer charity you could pat yourself on the back instead of sitting behind a computer posting on a bulletin board telling everyone you're glad you've got stock. last edited: 10/06/05 11:56:57 PM” 11:50:29 PM 10/06/05 “Is it cervical cancer that's called the silent killer because there are no symptoms? If so, then coming up with a vaccine as a preventative measure would be fantastic! Personally, I don't see anything wrong with Deore being happy with the potential of the stock going up. It's been a hard couple of years for stock holders whose stocks went down and never came back up. I'd be happy to if it were me. I think you can be happy about the cure and the stock.” 1:39:03 AM 10/07/05 “He'll be loving that stock once Merck starts getting hammered with plantiff settlements on Vioxx. Of course, it was his money that helped Merck develop that winner too, I guess...” 5:06:36 AM 10/07/05 “Oh yeah... you guys are liberals and plan on the government taking care of you when you get old with a revamped social security. Maybe one day too you will develope a sence of personal responsibility and start saving money for the future so you too can enjoy watching the stock market earn money for you. Then again maybe you guys enjoy your low income government housing and living paycheck to paycheck.” 5:57:12 AM 10/07/05 “I am with you, DDXK. Drug companies get slammed all the time by ignorant people. It cost a fortune to bring a drug to market in this country. These miracles will not occur with just wishful thinking from the "pointy headed intelectuals" that gripe about anyone making a dime profit. Capitalism can be a brutal business, but until Divine Providence wills us a utopia, it is the best system we have. Wish I held some of that stock.” 6:20:31 AM 10/07/05 “speaking of curing cancer and "pharma", check out the progress of the Tour of Hope. Started in San Diego Thu 9/29, arriving in DC tomorrow.” 7:29:52 AM 10/07/05 “Thanks for your concern DDX, but I'm doing just fine - very well by any standards. Of course anyone who doesn't agree with one particular view is looking forward to sponging off the state. I know this must be hard for you to understand, but 'liberal' views don't always evolve from self-interest. Anyhow. The annoucement is very good news. No problem with a private company developing what could be a wonderful drug if it pans out. It was just an interesting initial response. last edited: 10/07/05 8:55:42 AM” 8:50:24 AM 10/07/05 “I just find it interesting I post good news about a cancer cure and add a tongue in cheek comment about Merck stock and people find a way to get on their high horse and beat their chests about about the stock comment taking focus away from teh cancer cure. I guess it's par for the course on TT.” 9:18:28 AM 10/07/05 “Gotta love TT.” 9:43:45 AM 10/07/05
