Mammoth Cave in November-Friday night ca mping

“I am just trying to get a read on how many will be staying at the headquarters campground Friday night because I am guessing we may need more than one sight.

Right now I am guessing that these people will be arriving sometime on Friday:

I am sure I am missing some people here but not sure who. Please post if you think you will be joining us.”

“I went on a hike on my birthday this July, a solo trip as always. On my birthday at camp that night I downed a fairly large amount of Crown Royal and, frankly, got seriously toe-up. I was a mess. I woke up the next morning having overslept. The combination of the warm night, the bivy bag, and booze had me so dehydrated it was hard to believe. I had 14 miles to hike that day and I did it, but it was compounded misery. Water was scarce on these trails so when I got to the first (and last) supply I drank water like there was no tomorrow and then pumped 2x the amount of water as usual. Each stroke of the pump matched in rhythm to the pounding in my head. I know you all know what I am talking about. So I had the extra weight to lug. It was the death march of death marches for me.

Never again... until next time I guess.”

“(This is my first time on the site...really love it.) I am going on a two-day hike to Mammoth Cave this weekend. I've had several day hikes to the area. Word of caution: never hike White Oak trail (located in the NE corner of the park) the first weeks of September. I renamed it the arachnophobe's nightmare. I was too busy knocking down spiderwebs stretched across the trail to really enjoy it. Horses use it a lot, too, so I had to deal with potholes and other "distractions." Have a great time...can't wait to hear how your trip goes.”

“You're welcome, Wounded Knee. The hike I'm taking this weekend is actually the Wet Prong Loop, (I notice part of your hike will include that trail). From what I understand, a portion of Wet Prong is the only hikers-only trail in the Park. That's the way the map reads, anyway.”

“Almost forgot, I said on the other thread that I would have some way of directing people that arrive late on Friday to the sites we will be at.

I constructed a sign yesterday that should help. You should look for a neon yellow poster with reflective red tape on it. It reads as follows...

then underneath the TT will be an arrow point you where to go. I will also have the site numbers we are at in marker on the poster. I will probably reserve 3 sites.

If you want to try my cell phone (cannot gaurantee I will have a signal) that is cool too.
