Why am I having flashbacks to the episode of Sienfield where George is dating a female version of Jerry?

I'm thinking the lows for Friday will be from early Friday morning and then take a warming trend into Friday afternoon.

Tell your husband I am married with three kids and he can talk to my wife to verify how whipped I am. Jimmy-san is zero threat factor.

As for Sunday, I was just going with the flow. I thought people were return-driving Sunday. I am open to hiking on Sunday if someone has some idea of where to go. I am new to the area so anything is game. It would be nice if I could get home Sunday night or early Monday morning. I don't mind driving through the night.

Don't forget your fruitcake for this hike. One serving of fruitcake is 350 calories and hardly any of it is fat. PURE winterhiking rocketfuel!

You guys (and girl) have loads of fun; I'll be thinking of you!

I'm planning on driving up on Friday morning. It will take me about five hours to get there. I'll look for Jimmysan's campsite and do some shorter trails in the afternoon.

I won't do the whole 17 mile hike on Saturday and I don't have to leave until early Sunday afternoon.

that's my plans if anyone cares.

I am such a light weight when it comes to cold. I hope I can make it without bailing out. I really want to go though cause this will be my last overnight trip until April. (tax season)

another reason i want to do rock bridge to martins fork instead of the other way around, is that ive been on the rough trail much more recently than the swift camp creek trai, and would feel more comfortable manuevering on it after sunset (hopefully we'll be in before that)

Ow of 15 for Friday night. Brrrr! I'm not gonna have any scotch for the weekend so I'm bringing beer. Wonder if I should bring a cooler to keep it from freezing? LOL!
Nigal

if you bring a cooler, i'm sleeping in it

geer list as of now:

2 blankets
2 sleeping bags
1 comforter

think i'll stay warm?

I am quickly running out of room. I'm going to have to really try and pear down the stuff I'm taking. Thrifty, you can have the cooler when the beer's gone. Until then, shiver!

BTW- what's the coldest temps you've camped in?

i have a tent delema

i have this one (only green)

it's all mesh on top w/ a rain fly

or i have a 3 man dome that has very little mesh

the smaller one in theory would be easier to heat but i'm not sure how much protection the fly will give me

if i bring my dog, and it's looking like i won't, than i will probably bring the dome

litte better picture

You just seem very concerned about the cold. I remember the first time I camped in really cold temps. I was afraid I'd go to sleep and never wake up. LOL! How big is the done? It may hold heat in better.

“i'm not too awfully concerned...i'm driving my wife's station wagon, if push comes to shove i'll just sleep there, so if you wake up saturday and can't find me that's were i'll be LOL

i'm not sure of the size of my dome, it's your typical 3 man dome (you know, it says 3 man but in reality it maybe big enough for 1 man and a couple of midgets)...it might be 4' tall”

I am less concerned about the night out than I am about the 17 mile hike. I wasn't planning on bringing a lot of gear on the hike but with the cold weather I am going to have to increase the amount of gear I carry. Crash, we should coordinate a bit so we don't duplicate a lot of gear since most of it will only be used if we are forced to overnight as the result of an emergency. Save weight.

Thrifty's bringing midgets!? DAMN! And I thought I was bring a lot of extra stuff! LOL! So far the stupid stuff I'm bring are, a 12 pack, two bundles of firewood (just to be sure we have at least one dry bundle for when the long hikers get into camp near dark, plus being close to the road it'll be harder to find ready wood), and fresh food.

What time are you long hikers getting on the trail? Do you think you should leave before it's light for the TH so you can use as much light as possible?

nigal, what time to you think you'll get up and get going sat morn?...we're supposed to get any where from 3-8 inches of snow from now until friday...it's a possibility that we just may be coming sat morn

“nigal, what time to you think you'll get up and get going sat morn?"

Depending on how many people are getting dropped off for the long hike I was planning on driving them to their drop off. That is if I can fit everyone in the PT Cruiser. Then I'm driving back to camp and hit the trail. My plans are very loose so I am flexible. I'm just planning on farting around on some of the loops so I can be back at camp before dark. No planned mileage or anything. It's going to be a nice relaxing weekend.

Well, after much consideration I have decided to leave Honey Dog at home. I’m afraid she’ll be too miserable. She’s gonna be devastated. I’m going to have to pack in secret so she doesn’t see me packing and loading the pack in the car. The good thing is that I can leave a bunch of stuff at home and tarp it. Hell, if it’s not going to be too moist I may just cowboy camp.

Snow, rain, sleet.... RRG or bust!
I’m leaving Friday around 2pm from Dayton. I will have to leave Sunday morning for work on Monday.

I don't care what the weather is like on Friday. Part of camping is being prepared for any condition and making do with whatcha got. Nothing against ya other people. This is not a bashing post in any way shape of form.

It will be a cold Friday night. I was down in Atlanta these last few days and people were bundled up in scarves and winter jackets. It was funny. The rental car didn't have an ice scraper in it and I had to use a Credit Card... :)
