I know it's to early to really know where this hurricane is going, but if any of you FL TTers need a place to evacuate to...
my house on the MS Gulf Coast is still messed up but I have an empty 22' camping trailer with A/C and plently of plywood floor space in my house.

I may have to return after the storm for some of those free meals. I received 50 of those dinners last year. Most of them were good.

If my place goes, I wonder if I can get a rebate on some pre-paid lot rent. When Irene crossed the state a few years ago, it remained surprisingly strong.

Paul, stay in the Smokies a while longer! ;-)

thanks for the invite stovie, my mom turns 80 tomorrow and my dad has dementia. we may go to my cousins in ocala but most likely will stay put. daughter will probably be called in, son works for winn dixie so he will be called in until the close the bridges and the hubby is still a reserve officer and not sure what will happen with him. we have between surfergirl and us 3 cats, 1 dog, a rabbitt and a turtle. my folks are about 5 miles inland but will see what happens.

Cheese! That pressure is an estimated value. From the National Hurricane Center's 11 a.m. bulletin:

"ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 882 MB...26.05 INCHES."

Shelter (FEMA STYLE)
Ft McClellan Alabama was closed by the last round of the BRAC, but FEMA opened up the Barracks to people who needed to relocate, with space for 1200...there are FOUR people there now......

These are 2 man rooms that share a common bath between, built in the late 1970's, remodeled twice since, but very modern for their age.......(They may be full before this is over...).

Here in Alabama, the state parks have sent a lot of the trailers that FEMA shipped them for Katrina refugees back to a central holding location near Dothan. Looks like they might have been just in time.

The path is heading towards Venice, FL, that's where my parents live. They're about 2-3 miles from the coast.

My parents live along that path too, northeast in Kissimmee. Hopefully it will turn northwest towards New Orleans.

no offence to orleans, but if it's gotta hit somewhere, wouldn't it be better to hit there right now?

city's still mostly evacuated and destroyed already right?

better for the storm to hit piles of rubbish than existing homes.

and for the record - no, i didn't just agree with sarge.

Thank goodness it has weakened greatly from the Cat 5 it was.

Stay safe, cyndeee!

Good Luck South Florida.

The weather channel just reported it to be a Cat 3 storm with a 50 mile wide eye!

I know it's gonna hit my parents in Boca. I just don't know at what category it will. They didn't evacuate, either. This one is coming from the Gulf side but I am still worried because they say it will speed up once it hits land. Guess we will all know soon enough, huh?

According to the FAA, Miami International is closed, and the time for reopen is unknown. You might want to find the website for the airline she was traveling on and check on her specific flight.

Wolfie, that means the center will move over land faster. The faster the center moves, the less time for those 100 mph winds to beat on their house.
It's a good thing.

The hurricanes moving well offshore now.
Man, that b***h was moving FAST, 25 mph.
Things should be quieting down in FL.
I'm sure lots of power and phones out so it might be a while till we learn the real damage.
